وَكَمْ And how many wakam We destroyed ahlaknā before them qablahum of min a generation qarnin they hum (were) stronger ashaddu than them min'hum (in) power baṭshan so they explored fanaqqabū throughout fī the lands l-bilādi Is (there) hal any min place of escape maḥīṣin
And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were greater than them in [striking] power and had explored throughout the lands. Is there any place of escape?
إِنَّ Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely, is a reminder ladhik'rā for (one) who liman is kāna for him lahu a heart qalbun or aw (who) gives ear alqā (who) gives ear l-samʿa while he wahuwa (is) a witness shahīdun
Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We created khalaqnā the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍa and whatever wamā (is) between both of them baynahumā in fī six sittati periods ayyāmin and (did) not wamā touch Us massanā any min fatigue lughūbin
And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness.
فَٱصْبِرْ So be patient fa-iṣ'bir over ʿalā what mā they say yaqūlūna and glorify wasabbiḥ (the) praise biḥamdi (of) your Lord rabbika before qabla (the) rising ṭulūʿi (of) the sun l-shamsi and before waqabla the setting l-ghurūbi
So be patient, [O Muḥammad], over what they say and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,
وَمِنَ And of wamina the night al-layli glorify Him fasabbiḥ'hu and after wa-adbāra the prostration l-sujūdi
And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration [i.e., prayer].
وَٱسْتَمِعْ And listen wa-is'tamiʿ (The) Day yawma will call yunādi the caller l-munādi from min a place makānin near qarībin
And listen on the Day when the Caller1 will call out from a place that is near -
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma they will hear yasmaʿūna the Blast l-ṣayḥata in truth bil-ḥaqi That dhālika (is the) Day yawmu (of) coming forth l-khurūji
The Day they will hear the blast [of the Horn] in truth. That is the Day of Emergence [from the graves].
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā [We] naḥnu [We] give life nuḥ'yī and [We] cause death wanumītu and to Us wa-ilaynā (is) the final return l-maṣīru
Indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and to Us is the destination
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma will split tashaqqaqu the earth l-arḍu from them ʿanhum hurrying sirāʿan That dhālika (is) a gathering ḥashrun for Us ʿalaynā easy yasīrun
On the Day the earth breaks away from them [and they emerge] rapidly; that is a gathering easy for Us.
نَّحْنُ We naḥnu know best aʿlamu [of] what bimā they say yaqūlūna and not wamā (are) you anta over them ʿalayhim the one to compel bijabbārin But remind fadhakkir with the Quran bil-qur'āni whoever man fears yakhāfu My threat waʿīdi
We are most knowing of what they say, and you are not over them a tyrant.1 But remind by the Qur’ān whoever fears My threat.
Adh-Dhāriyāt
The Winnowing Winds
﷽
الذاريات
وَٱلذَّٰرِيَـٰتِ By those scattering wal-dhāriyāti dispersing dharwan
By the [winds] scattering [dust], dispersing [it]
فَٱلْحَـٰمِلَـٰتِ And those carrying fal-ḥāmilāti a load wiq'ran
And the [clouds] carrying a load [of water]
فَٱلْجَـٰرِيَـٰتِ And those sailing fal-jāriyāti (with) ease yus'ran
And the ships sailing with ease
فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَـٰتِ And those distributing fal-muqasimāti Command amran
And the [angels] apportioning [each] matter,
إِنَّمَا Indeed, what innamā you are promised tūʿadūna (is) surely true laṣādiqun
Indeed, what you are promised is true.
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna the Judgment l-dīna (is) surely to occur lawāqiʿun
And indeed, the recompense is to occur.
