وَأَن

And that

wa-an

لَّا

(do) not

تَعْلُوا۟

exalt yourselves

taʿlū

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

ءَاتِيكُم

[I] have come to you

ātīkum

بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ

with an authority

bisul'ṭānin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

١٩

And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allāh. Indeed, I have come to you with clear evidence.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنِّى

And indeed, I

wa-innī

عُذْتُ

[I] seek refuge

ʿudh'tu

بِرَبِّى

with my Lord

birabbī

وَرَبِّكُمْ

and your Lord

warabbikum

أَن

lest

an

تَرْجُمُونِ

you stone me

tarjumūni

٢٠

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.1

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

لَّمْ

not

lam

تُؤْمِنُوا۟

you believe

tu'minū

لِى

me

فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ

then leave me alone

fa-iʿ'tazilūni

٢١

But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone."

— Saheeh International

فَدَعَا

So he called

fadaʿā

رَبَّهُۥٓ

his Lord

rabbahu

أَنَّ

That

anna

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

قَوْمٌۭ

(are) a people

qawmun

مُّجْرِمُونَ

criminals

muj'rimūna

٢٢

And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people.

— Saheeh International

فَأَسْرِ

Then "Set out

fa-asri

بِعِبَادِى

with My slaves

biʿibādī

لَيْلًا

(by) night

laylan

إِنَّكُم

Indeed, you

innakum

مُّتَّبَعُونَ

(will be) followed

muttabaʿūna

٢٣

[Allāh said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued.

— Saheeh International

وَٱتْرُكِ

And leave

wa-ut'ruki

ٱلْبَحْرَ

the sea

l-baḥra

رَهْوًا ۖ

at rest

rahwan

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

جُندٌۭ

(are) an army

jundun

مُّغْرَقُونَ

(to be) drowned

mugh'raqūna

٢٤

And leave the sea in stillness.1 Indeed, they are an army to be drowned."

— Saheeh International

كَمْ

How many

kam

تَرَكُوا۟

(did) they leave

tarakū

مِن

of

min

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

gardens

jannātin

وَعُيُونٍۢ

and springs

waʿuyūnin

٢٥

How much they left behind of gardens and springs

— Saheeh International

وَزُرُوعٍۢ

And cornfields

wazurūʿin

وَمَقَامٍۢ

and places

wamaqāmin

كَرِيمٍۢ

noble

karīmin

٢٦

And crops and noble sites

— Saheeh International

وَنَعْمَةٍۢ

And pleasant things

wanaʿmatin

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

فَـٰكِهِينَ

take delight

fākihīna

٢٧

And comfort wherein they were amused.

— Saheeh International

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ

Thus

kadhālika

وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا

And We made it (an) inherit(ance)

wa-awrathnāhā

قَوْمًا

(for) a people

qawman

ءَاخَرِينَ

another

ākharīna

٢٨

Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people.

— Saheeh International

فَمَا

And not

famā

بَكَتْ

wept

bakat

عَلَيْهِمُ

for them

ʿalayhimu

ٱلسَّمَآءُ

the heaven

l-samāu

وَٱلْأَرْضُ

and the earth

wal-arḍu

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانُوا۟

they were

kānū

مُنظَرِينَ

given respite

munẓarīna

٢٩

And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

نَجَّيْنَا

We saved

najjaynā

بَنِىٓ

(the) Children of Israel

banī

إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

(the) Children of Israel

is'rāīla

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلْعَذَابِ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābi

ٱلْمُهِينِ

the humiliating

l-muhīni

٣٠

And We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment -

— Saheeh International

مِن

From

min

فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ

Firaun

fir'ʿawna

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَالِيًۭا

arrogant

ʿāliyan

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

the transgressors

l-mus'rifīna

٣١

From Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a haughty one among the transgressors.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدِ

And certainly

walaqadi

ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ

We chose them

ikh'tarnāhum

عَلَىٰ

by

ʿalā

عِلْمٍ

knowledge

ʿil'min

عَلَى

over

ʿalā

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٣٢

And We certainly chose them by knowledge over [all] the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم

And We gave them

waātaynāhum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

مَا

that

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

بَلَـٰٓؤٌۭا۟

(was) a trial

balāon

مُّبِينٌ

clear

mubīnun

٣٣

And We gave them of signs that in which there was a clear trial.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

لَيَقُولُونَ

surely, they say

layaqūlūna

٣٤

Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying,

— Saheeh International

إِنْ

Not

in

هِىَ

it

hiya

إِلَّا

(is) but

illā

مَوْتَتُنَا

our death

mawtatunā

ٱلْأُولَىٰ

the first

l-ūlā

وَمَا

and not

wamā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

بِمُنشَرِينَ

(will be) raised again

bimunsharīna

٣٥

"There is not but our first death, and we will not be resurrected.

— Saheeh International

فَأْتُوا۟

Then bring

fatū

بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ

our forefathers

biābāinā

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٣٦

Then bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful."

— Saheeh International

أَهُمْ

Are they

ahum

خَيْرٌ

better

khayrun

أَمْ

or

am

قَوْمُ

(the) people

qawmu

تُبَّعٍۢ

(of) Tubba

tubbaʿin

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those

wa-alladhīna

مِن

before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

before them

qablihim

أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ

We destroyed them

ahlaknāhum

إِنَّهُمْ

indeed, they

innahum

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

مُجْرِمِينَ

criminals

muj'rimīna

٣٧

Are they better or the people of Tubbaʿ1 and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

خَلَقْنَا

We created

khalaqnā

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

بَيْنَهُمَا

(is) between them

baynahumā

لَـٰعِبِينَ

(in) play

lāʿibīna

٣٨

And We did not create the heavens and earth and that between them in play.

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ

We created both of them

khalaqnāhumā

إِلَّا

but

illā

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in [the] truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَهُمْ

most of them

aktharahum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٣٩

We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know.

— Saheeh International
