وَبَدَا And will become apparent wabadā to them lahum (the) evils sayyiātu (of) what mā they earned kasabū and will surround waḥāqa them bihim what mā they used to kānū [in it] bihi mock yastahziūna
And there will appear to them the evils they had earned, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā touches massa [the] man l-insāna adversity ḍurrun he calls upon Us daʿānā then thumma when idhā We bestow (on) him khawwalnāhu a favor niʿ'matan from Us minnā he says qāla Only innamā I have been given it ūtītuhu for ʿalā knowledge ʿil'min Nay bal it hiya (is) a trial fit'natun but walākinna most of them aktharahum (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
And when adversity touches man, he calls upon Us; then when We bestow on him a favor from Us, he says, "I have only been given it because of [my] knowledge." Rather, it is a trial, but most of them do not know.
قَدْ Indeed qad said it qālahā those alladhīna before them min before them qablihim but (did) not famā avail aghnā them ʿanhum what mā they used to kānū earn yaksibūna
Those before them had already said it, but they were not availed by what they used to earn.
فَأَصَابَهُمْ Then struck them fa-aṣābahum (the) evils sayyiātu (of) what mā they earned kasabū And those who wa-alladhīna have wronged ẓalamū of min these hāulāi will strike them sayuṣībuhum (the) evils sayyiātu (of) what mā they earned kasabū and not wamā they hum will be able to escape bimuʿ'jizīna
And the evil consequences of what they earned struck them. And those who have wronged of these [people] will be struck [i.e., afflicted] by the evil consequences of what they earned; and they will not cause failure.1
أَوَلَمْ Do not awalam they know yaʿlamū that anna Allah l-laha extends yabsuṭu the provision l-riz'qa for whom liman He wills yashāu and restricts wayaqdiru Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely (are) signs laāyātin for a people liqawmin who believe yu'minūna
Do they not know that Allāh extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe.
۞ قُلْ Say qul O My slaves yāʿibādiya Those who alladhīna have transgressed asrafū against ʿalā themselves anfusihim (do) not lā despair taqnaṭū of min (the) Mercy raḥmati (of) Allah l-lahi Indeed inna Allah l-laha forgives yaghfiru the sins l-dhunūba all jamīʿan Indeed He innahu He huwa (is) the Oft-Forgiving l-ghafūru the Most Merciful l-raḥīmu
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allāh. Indeed, Allāh forgives all sins.1 Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
وَأَنِيبُوٓا۟ And turn wa-anībū to ilā your Lord rabbikum and submit wa-aslimū to Him lahu before min before qabli [that] an comes to you yatiyakumu the punishment l-ʿadhābu then thumma not lā you will be helped tunṣarūna
And return [in repentance] to your Lord and submit to Him before the punishment comes upon you; then you will not be helped.
وَٱتَّبِعُوٓا۟ And follow wa-ittabiʿū (the) best aḥsana (of) what mā is revealed unzila to you ilaykum from min your Lord rabbikum before min before qabli [that] an comes to you yatiyakumu the punishment l-ʿadhābu suddenly baghtatan while you wa-antum (do) not lā perceive tashʿurūna
And follow the best of what was revealed to you from your Lord [i.e., the Qur’ān] before the punishment comes upon you suddenly while you do not perceive,
أَن Lest an should say taqūla a soul nafsun Oh! My regret yāḥasratā over ʿalā what mā I neglected farraṭtu in fī regard (to) janbi Allah l-lahi and that wa-in I was kuntu surely, among lamina the mockers l-sākhirīna
Lest a soul should say,1 "Oh, [how great is] my regret over what I neglected in regard to Allāh and that I was among the mockers."
