وَجَعَلْنَا And We made wajaʿalnā his offspring dhurriyyatahu [they] humu the survivors l-bāqīna
And We made his descendants those remaining [on the earth]
وَتَرَكْنَا And We left wataraknā for him ʿalayhi among fī the later generations l-ākhirīna
And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations:
سَلَـٰمٌ Peace be salāmun upon ʿalā Nuh nūḥin among fī the worlds l-ʿālamīna
"Peace upon Noah among the worlds."
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā thus kadhālika [We] reward najzī the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, he innahu (was) of min Our slaves ʿibādinā believing l-mu'minīna
Indeed, he was of Our believing servants.
ثُمَّ Then thumma We drowned aghraqnā the others l-ākharīna
Then We drowned the others [i.e., disbelievers].
۞ وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna among min his kind shīʿatihi (was) surely Ibrahim la-ib'rāhīma
And indeed, among his kind was Abraham,
إِذْ When idh he came jāa (to) his Lord rabbahu with a heart biqalbin sound salīmin
When he came to his Lord with a sound heart
إِذْ When idh he said qāla to his father li-abīhi and his people waqawmihi What is it mādhā you worship taʿbudūna
[And] when he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?
أَئِفْكًا Is it falsehood a-if'kan gods ālihatan other than dūna Allah l-lahi (that) you desire turīdūna
Is it falsehood [as] gods other than Allāh you desire?
فَمَا Then what famā (do) you think ẓannukum about (the) Lord birabbi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
Then what is your thought about the Lord of the worlds?"
فَنَظَرَ Then he glanced fanaẓara a glance naẓratan at fī the stars l-nujūmi
And he cast a look at the stars.
فَقَالَ And he said faqāla Indeed, I am innī sick saqīmun
And said, "Indeed, I am [about to be] ill."
فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ So they turned away fatawallaw from him ʿanhu departing mud'birīna
So they turned away from him, departing.
فَرَاغَ Then he turned farāgha to ilā their gods ālihatihim and said faqāla Do not alā you eat takulūna
Then he turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat?1
مَا What (is) mā for you lakum not lā you speak tanṭiqūna
What is [wrong] with you that you do not speak?".
فَرَاغَ Then he turned farāgha upon them ʿalayhim striking ḍarban with the right hand bil-yamīni
And he turned upon them a blow with [his] right hand.
فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ Then they advanced fa-aqbalū towards him ilayhi hastening yaziffūna
Then they [i.e., the people] came toward him, hastening.
قَالَ He said qāla Do you worship ataʿbudūna what mā you carve tanḥitūna
He said, "Do you worship that which you [yourselves] carve,
وَٱللَّهُ While Allah wal-lahu created you khalaqakum and what wamā you make taʿmalūna
While Allāh created you and that which you do?"
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū Build ib'nū for him lahu a structure bun'yānan and throw him fa-alqūhu into fī the blazing Fire l-jaḥīmi
They said, "Construct for him a structure [i.e., furnace] and throw him into the burning fire."
فَأَرَادُوا۟ And they intended fa-arādū for him bihi a plot kaydan but We made them fajaʿalnāhumu the lowest l-asfalīna
And they intended for him a plan [i.e., harm], but We made them the most debased.
وَقَالَ And he said waqāla Indeed, I am innī going dhāhibun to ilā my Lord rabbī He will guide me sayahdīni
And [then] he said, "Indeed, I will go to [where I am ordered by] my Lord; He will guide me.
رَبِّ My Lord rabbi grant hab me lī of mina the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ So We gave him the glad tidings fabasharnāhu of a boy bighulāmin forbearing ḥalīmin
So We gave him good tidings of a forbearing boy.
فَلَمَّا Then when falammā he reached balagha the (age of) working with him maʿahu the (age of) working with him l-saʿya he said qāla O my son yābunayya Indeed, I innī have seen arā in fī the dream l-manāmi that I am annī sacrificing you adhbaḥuka so look fa-unẓur what mādhā you see tarā He said qāla O my father yāabati Do if'ʿal what mā you are commanded tu'maru You will find me satajidunī if in Allah wills shāa Allah wills l-lahu of mina the patient ones l-ṣābirīna
And when he reached with him [the age of] exertion,1 he said, "O my son, indeed I have seen in a dream that I [must] sacrifice you, so see what you think." He said, "O my father, do as you are commanded. You will find me, if Allāh wills, of the steadfast."
