وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَسْتَوِى

equal

yastawī

ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ

(are) the blind

l-aʿmā

وَٱلْبَصِيرُ

and the seeing

wal-baṣīru

١٩

Not equal are the blind and the seeing,

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And not

walā

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتُ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumātu

وَلَا

and not

walā

ٱلنُّورُ

[the] light

l-nūru

٢٠

Nor are the darknesses and the light,

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And not

walā

ٱلظِّلُّ

the shade

l-ẓilu

وَلَا

and not

walā

ٱلْحَرُورُ

the heat

l-ḥarūru

٢١

Nor are the shade and the heat,1

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَسْتَوِى

equal

yastawī

ٱلْأَحْيَآءُ

(are) the living

l-aḥyāu

وَلَا

and not

walā

ٱلْأَمْوَٰتُ ۚ

the dead

l-amwātu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُسْمِعُ

causes to hear

yus'miʿu

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ ۖ

He wills

yashāu

وَمَآ

and not

wamā

أَنتَ

you

anta

بِمُسْمِعٍۢ

can make hear

bimus'miʿin

مَّن

(those) who

man

فِى

(are) in

ٱلْقُبُورِ

the graves

l-qubūri

٢٢

And not equal are the living and the dead. Indeed, Allāh causes to hear whom He wills, but you cannot make hear those in the graves.1

— Saheeh International

إِنْ

Not

in

أَنتَ

you (are)

anta

إِلَّا

but

illā

نَذِيرٌ

a warner

nadhīrun

٢٣

You, [O Muḥammad], are not but a warner.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

innā

أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ

[We] have sent you

arsalnāka

بِٱلْحَقِّ

with the truth

bil-ḥaqi

بَشِيرًۭا

(as) a bearer of glad tidings

bashīran

وَنَذِيرًۭا ۚ

and (as) a warner

wanadhīran

وَإِن

And not

wa-in

مِّنْ

(was) any

min

أُمَّةٍ

nation

ummatin

إِلَّا

but

illā

خَلَا

had passed

khalā

فِيهَا

within it

fīhā

نَذِيرٌۭ

a warner

nadhīrun

٢٤

Indeed, We have sent you with the truth as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And there was no nation but that there had passed within it a warner.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يُكَذِّبُوكَ

they deny you

yukadhibūka

فَقَدْ

then certainly

faqad

كَذَّبَ

denied

kadhaba

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

مِن

(were) before them

min

قَبْلِهِمْ

(were) before them

qablihim

جَآءَتْهُمْ

Came to them

jāathum

رُسُلُهُم

their Messengers

rusuluhum

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

with clear signs

bil-bayināti

وَبِٱلزُّبُرِ

and with Scriptures

wabil-zuburi

وَبِٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

and with the Book

wabil-kitābi

ٱلْمُنِيرِ

[the] enlightening

l-munīri

٢٥

And if they deny you - then already have those before them denied. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs and written ordinances and with the enlightening Scripture.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

أَخَذْتُ

I seized

akhadhtu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟ ۖ

disbelieved

kafarū

فَكَيْفَ

and how

fakayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

نَكِيرِ

My rejection

nakīri

٢٦

Then I seized the ones who disbelieved, and how [terrible] was My reproach.

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَ

you see

tara

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

أَنزَلَ

sends down

anzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

فَأَخْرَجْنَا

then We bring forth

fa-akhrajnā

بِهِۦ

therewith

bihi

ثَمَرَٰتٍۢ

fruits

thamarātin

مُّخْتَلِفًا

(of) various

mukh'talifan

أَلْوَٰنُهَا ۚ

[their] colors

alwānuhā

وَمِنَ

And in

wamina

ٱلْجِبَالِ

the mountains

l-jibāli

جُدَدٌۢ

(are) tracts

judadun

بِيضٌۭ

white

bīḍun

وَحُمْرٌۭ

and red

waḥum'run

مُّخْتَلِفٌ

(of) various

mukh'talifun

أَلْوَٰنُهَا

[their] colors

alwānuhā

وَغَرَابِيبُ

and intensely black

wagharābību

سُودٌۭ

and intensely black

sūdun

٢٧

Do you not see that Allāh sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby fruits of varying colors? And in the mountains are tracts, white and red of varying shades and [some] extremely black.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And among

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ

men

l-nāsi

وَٱلدَّوَآبِّ

and moving creatures

wal-dawābi

وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

and the cattle

wal-anʿāmi

مُخْتَلِفٌ

(are) various

mukh'talifun

أَلْوَٰنُهُۥ

[their] colors

alwānuhu

كَذَٰلِكَ ۗ

likewise

kadhālika

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

يَخْشَى

fear

yakhshā

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مِنْ

among

min

عِبَادِهِ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

ٱلْعُلَمَـٰٓؤُا۟ ۗ

those who have knowledge

l-ʿulamāu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَزِيزٌ

(is) All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

غَفُورٌ

Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

٢٨

And among people and moving creatures and grazing livestock are various colors similarly. Only those fear Allāh, from among His servants, who have knowledge. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Forgiving.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَتْلُونَ

recite

yatlūna

كِتَـٰبَ

(the) Book

kitāba

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَأَقَامُوا۟

and establish

wa-aqāmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَأَنفَقُوا۟

and spend

wa-anfaqū

مِمَّا

out of what

mimmā

رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ

We have provided them

razaqnāhum

سِرًّۭا

secretly

sirran

وَعَلَانِيَةًۭ

and openly

waʿalāniyatan

يَرْجُونَ

hope

yarjūna

تِجَـٰرَةًۭ

(for) a commerce

tijāratan

لَّن

never

lan

تَبُورَ

it will perish

tabūra

٢٩

Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allāh and establish prayer and spend [in His cause] out of what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, [can] expect a transaction [i.e., profit] that will never perish -

— Saheeh International

لِيُوَفِّيَهُمْ

That He may give them in full

liyuwaffiyahum

أُجُورَهُمْ

their rewards

ujūrahum

وَيَزِيدَهُم

and increase for them

wayazīdahum

مِّن

of

min

فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚ

His Bounty

faḍlihi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

غَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

شَكُورٌۭ

Most Appreciative

shakūrun

٣٠

That He may give them in full their rewards and increase for them of His bounty. Indeed, He is Forgiving and Appreciative.1
