And not

wamā

يَسْتَوِى

are alike

yastawī

ٱلْبَحْرَانِ

the two seas

l-baḥrāni

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

عَذْبٌۭ

(is) fresh

ʿadhbun

فُرَاتٌۭ

sweet

furātun

سَآئِغٌۭ

pleasant

sāighun

شَرَابُهُۥ

its drink

sharābuhu

وَهَـٰذَا

and this

wahādhā

مِلْحٌ

salty

mil'ḥun

أُجَاجٌۭ ۖ

(and) bitter

ujājun

وَمِن

And from

wamin

كُلٍّۢ

each

kullin

تَأْكُلُونَ

you eat

takulūna

لَحْمًۭا

meat

laḥman

طَرِيًّۭا

fresh

ṭariyyan

وَتَسْتَخْرِجُونَ

and you extract

watastakhrijūna

حِلْيَةًۭ

ornaments

ḥil'yatan

تَلْبَسُونَهَا ۖ

you wear them

talbasūnahā

وَتَرَى

and you see

watarā

ٱلْفُلْكَ

the ships

l-ful'ka

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

مَوَاخِرَ

cleaving

mawākhira

لِتَبْتَغُوا۟

so that you may seek

litabtaghū

مِن

of

min

فَضْلِهِۦ

His Bounty

faḍlihi

وَلَعَلَّكُمْ

and that you may

walaʿallakum

تَشْكُرُونَ

be grateful

tashkurūna

١٢

And not alike are the two seas [i.e., bodies of water]. One is fresh and sweet, palatable for drinking, and one is salty and bitter. And from each you eat tender meat and extract ornaments which you wear, and you see the ships plowing through [them] that you might seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.

— Saheeh International

and He has subjected

wasakhara

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

l-shamsa

وَٱلْقَمَرَ

and the moon

wal-qamara

كُلٌّۭ

each

kullun

يَجْرِى

running

yajrī

لِأَجَلٍۢ

for a term

li-ajalin

مُّسَمًّۭى ۚ

appointed

musamman

ذَٰلِكُمُ

That (is)

dhālikumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

رَبُّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbukum

لَهُ

for Him

lahu

ٱلْمُلْكُ ۚ

(is) the Dominion

l-mul'ku

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those whom

wa-alladhīna

تَدْعُونَ

you invoke

tadʿūna

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِۦ

besides Him

dūnihi

مَا

not

يَمْلِكُونَ

they possess

yamlikūna

مِن

even

min

قِطْمِيرٍ

(as much as) the membrane of a date-seed

qiṭ'mīrin

١٣

He causes the night to enter the day, and He causes the day to enter the night and has subjected the sun and the moon - each running [its course] for a specified term. That is Allāh, your Lord; to Him belongs sovereignty. And those whom you invoke other than Him do not possess [as much as] the membrane of a date seed.

— Saheeh International

إِن

If

تَدْعُوهُمْ

you invoke them

tadʿūhum

لَا

يَسْمَعُوا۟

they hear

yasmaʿū

دُعَآءَكُمْ

your call

duʿāakum

وَلَوْ

and if

walaw

سَمِعُوا۟

they heard

samiʿū

مَا

not

ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟

they (would) respond

is'tajābū

لَكُمْ ۖ

to you

lakum

وَيَوْمَ

And (on the) Day

wayawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

يَكْفُرُونَ

they will deny

yakfurūna

بِشِرْكِكُمْ ۚ

your association

bishir'kikum

وَلَا

And none

walā

يُنَبِّئُكَ

can inform you

yunabbi-uka

مِثْلُ

like

mith'lu

خَبِيرٍۢ

(the) All-Aware

khabīrin

١٤

If you invoke them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association.1 And none can inform you like [one] Aware [of all matters].

— Saheeh International

۞ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّاسُ

mankind

l-nāsu

أَنتُمُ

You

antumu

ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ

(are) those in need

l-fuqarāu

إِلَى

of

ilā

ٱللَّهِ ۖ

Allah

l-lahi

وَٱللَّهُ

while Allah

wal-lahu

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْغَنِىُّ

(is) Free of need

l-ghaniyu

ٱلْحَمِيدُ

the Praiseworthy

l-ḥamīdu

١٥

O mankind, you are those in need of Allāh, while Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

— Saheeh International

إِن

If

in

يَشَأْ

He wills

yasha

يُذْهِبْكُمْ

He (can) do away with you

yudh'hib'kum

وَيَأْتِ

and bring

wayati

بِخَلْقٍۢ

in a creation

bikhalqin

جَدِيدٍۢ

new

jadīdin

١٦

If He wills, He can do away with you and bring forth a new creation.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

عَلَى

(is) on

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

بِعَزِيزٍۢ

difficult

biʿazīzin

١٧

And that is for Allāh not difficult.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And not

walā

تَزِرُ

will bear

taziru

وَازِرَةٌۭ

bearer of burdens

wāziratun

وِزْرَ

burden

wiz'ra

أُخْرَىٰ ۚ

(of) another

ukh'rā

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَدْعُ

calls

tadʿu

مُثْقَلَةٌ

a heavily laden

muth'qalatun

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

حِمْلِهَا

(carry) its load

ḥim'lihā

لَا

not

يُحْمَلْ

will be carried

yuḥ'mal

مِنْهُ

of it

min'hu

شَىْءٌۭ

anything

shayon

وَلَوْ

even if

walaw

كَانَ

he be

kāna

ذَا

near of kin

dhā

قُرْبَىٰٓ ۗ

near of kin

qur'bā

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

تُنذِرُ

you can warn

tundhiru

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَخْشَوْنَ

fear

yakhshawna

رَبَّهُم

their Lord

rabbahum

بِٱلْغَيْبِ

unseen

bil-ghaybi

وَأَقَامُوا۟

and establish

wa-aqāmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۚ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

تَزَكَّىٰ

purifies himself

tazakkā

فَإِنَّمَا

then only

fa-innamā

يَتَزَكَّىٰ

he purifies

yatazakkā

لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۚ

for his own self

linafsihi

وَإِلَى

And to

wa-ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

(is) the destination

l-maṣīru

١٨

And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And if a heavily laden soul calls [another] to [carry some of] its load, nothing of it will be carried, even if he should be a close relative. You can only warn those who fear their Lord unseen and have established prayer. And whoever purifies himself only purifies himself for [the benefit of] his soul. And to Allāh is the [final] destination.

— Saheeh International
