لَقَدْ Certainly laqad (there) was kāna for Saba lisaba-in in fī their dwelling place maskanihim a sign: āyatun Two gardens jannatāni on ʿan (the) right yamīnin and (on the) left washimālin Eat kulū from min (the) provision riz'qi (of) your Lord rabbikum and be grateful wa-ush'kurū to Him lahu A land baldatun good ṭayyibatun and a Lord warabbun Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun
There was for [the tribe of] Saba’ in their dwelling place a sign: two [fields of] gardens on the right and on the left. [They were told], "Eat from the provisions of your Lord and be grateful to Him. A good land [have you], and a forgiving Lord."
فَأَعْرَضُوا۟ But they turned away fa-aʿraḍū so We sent fa-arsalnā upon them ʿalayhim (the) flood sayla (of) the dam l-ʿarimi and We changed for them wabaddalnāhum their two gardens bijannatayhim (with) two gardens jannatayni producing fruit dhawātay producing fruit ukulin bitter khamṭin and tamarisks wa-athlin and (some)thing washayin of min lote trees sid'rin few qalīlin
But they turned away [refusing], so We sent upon them the flood of the dam,1 and We replaced their two [fields of] gardens with gardens of bitter fruit, tamarisks and something of sparse lote trees.
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika We recompensed them jazaynāhum because bimā they disbelieved kafarū And not wahal We recompense nujāzī except illā the ungrateful l-kafūra
[By] that We repaid them because they disbelieved. And do We [thus] repay except the ungrateful?
وَجَعَلْنَا And We made wajaʿalnā between them baynahum and between wabayna the towns l-qurā which allatī We had blessed bāraknā in it fīhā towns quran visible ẓāhiratan And We determined waqaddarnā between them fīhā the journey l-sayra Travel sīrū between them fīhā (by) night layāliya and (by) day wa-ayyāman safely āminīna
And We placed between them and the cities which We had blessed1 [many] visible cities. And We determined between them the [distances of] journey,2 [saying], "Travel between them by night or by day in safety."
فَقَالُوا۟ But they said faqālū Our Lord rabbanā lengthen (the distance) bāʿid between bayna our journeys asfārinā And they wronged waẓalamū themselves anfusahum so We made them fajaʿalnāhum narrations aḥādītha and We dispersed them wamazzaqnāhum (in) a total kulla dispersion mumazzaqin Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely (are) Signs laāyātin for everyone likulli patient ṣabbārin (and) grateful shakūrin
But [insolently] they said, "Our Lord, lengthen the distance between our journeys," and wronged themselves, so We made them narrations1 and dispersed them in total dispersion. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad found true ṣaddaqa about them ʿalayhim Iblis ib'līsu his assumption ẓannahu so they followed him fa-ittabaʿūhu except illā a group farīqan of mina the believers l-mu'minīna
And Iblees had already confirmed through them1 his assumption,2 so they followed him, except for a party of believers.
وَمَا And not wamā was kāna for him lahu over them ʿalayhim any min authority sul'ṭānin except illā that We (might) make evident linaʿlama who man believes yu'minu in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati from (one) who mimman [he] huwa about it min'hā (is) in fī doubt shakkin And your Lord warabbuka over ʿalā all kulli things shayin (is) a Guardian ḥafīẓun
And he had over them no authority except [it was decreed] that We might make evident who believes in the Hereafter from who is thereof in doubt. And your Lord, over all things, is Guardian.1
قُلِ Say quli Call upon id'ʿū those whom alladhīna you claim zaʿamtum besides min besides dūni Allah l-lahi Not lā they possess yamlikūna (the) weight mith'qāla (of) an atom dharratin in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and not walā in fī the earth l-arḍi and not wamā for them lahum in both of them fīhimā any min partnership shir'kin and not wamā for Him lahu from them min'hum any min supporter ẓahīrin
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Invoke those you claim [as deities] besides Allāh." They do not possess an atom's weight [of ability] in the heavens or on the earth, and they do not have therein any partnership [with Him], nor is there for Him from among them any assistant.
