يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O Prophet yāayyuhā O Prophet l-nabiyu Fear ittaqi Allah l-laha and (do) not walā obey tuṭiʿi the disbelievers l-kāfirīna and the hypocrites wal-munāfiqīna Indeed inna Allah l-laha is kāna All-Knower ʿalīman All-Wise ḥakīman
O Prophet, fear Allāh and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.
وَٱتَّبِعْ And follow wa-ittabiʿ what mā is inspired yūḥā to you ilayka from min your Lord rabbika Indeed inna Allah l-laha is kāna of what bimā you do taʿmalūna All-Aware khabīran
And follow that which is revealed to you from your Lord. Indeed Allāh is ever, of what you do, Aware.
وَتَوَكَّلْ And put your trust watawakkal in ʿalā Allah l-lahi And Allah is sufficient wakafā And Allah is sufficient bil-lahi (as) Disposer of affairs wakīlan
And rely upon Allāh; and sufficient is Allāh as Disposer of affairs.1
مَّا Not mā Allah (has) made jaʿala Allah (has) made l-lahu for any man lirajulin [of] min two hearts qalbayni in fī his interior jawfihi And not wamā He (has) made jaʿala your wives azwājakumu whom allāī you declare unlawful tuẓāhirūna [of them] min'hunna (as) your mothers ummahātikum And not wamā He has made jaʿala your adopted sons adʿiyāakum your sons abnāakum That dhālikum (is) your saying qawlukum by your mouths bi-afwāhikum but Allah wal-lahu says yaqūlu the truth l-ḥaqa and He wahuwa guides yahdī (to) the Way l-sabīla
Allāh has not made for a man two hearts in his interior. And He has not made your wives whom you declare unlawful1 your mothers. And He has not made your claimed [i.e., adopted] sons your [true] sons. That is [merely] your saying by your mouths, but Allāh says the truth, and He guides to the [right] way.
ٱدْعُوهُمْ Call them id'ʿūhum by their fathers liābāihim it huwa (is) more just aqsaṭu near ʿinda Allah l-lahi But if fa-in not lam you know taʿlamū their fathers ābāahum then (they are) your brothers fa-ikh'wānukum in fī [the] religion l-dīni and your friends wamawālīkum But not is walaysa upon you ʿalaykum any blame junāḥun in what fīmā you made a mistake akhṭatum in it bihi but walākin what mā intended taʿammadat your hearts qulūbukum And Allah wakāna And Allah l-lahu (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūran Most Merciful raḥīman
Call them1 by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allāh. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.
ٱلنَّبِىُّ The Prophet al-nabiyu (is) closer awlā to the believers bil-mu'minīna than min their own selves anfusihim and his wives wa-azwājuhu (are) their mothers ummahātuhum And possessors wa-ulū (of) relationships l-arḥāmi some of them baʿḍuhum (are) closer awlā to another bibaʿḍin in fī (the) Decree kitābi (of) Allah l-lahi than mina the believers l-mu'minīna and the emigrants wal-muhājirīna except illā that an you do tafʿalū to ilā your friends awliyāikum a kindness maʿrūfan That is kāna That is dhālika in fī the Book l-kitābi written masṭūran
The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves,1 and his wives are [in the position of] their mothers. And those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh than the [other] believers and the emigrants, except that you may do to your close associates a kindness [through bequest]. That was in the Book2 inscribed.
