Al-'Aĥzāb

The Combined Forces

الأحزاب

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O Prophet

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّبِىُّ

O Prophet

l-nabiyu

ٱتَّقِ

Fear

ittaqi

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تُطِعِ

obey

tuṭiʿi

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ ۗ

and the hypocrites

wal-munāfiqīna

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

كَانَ

is

kāna

عَلِيمًا

All-Knower

ʿalīman

حَكِيمًۭا

All-Wise

ḥakīman

١

O Prophet, fear Allāh and do not obey the disbelievers and the hypocrites. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.

— Saheeh International

وَٱتَّبِعْ

And follow

wa-ittabiʿ

مَا

what

يُوحَىٰٓ

is inspired

yūḥā

إِلَيْكَ

to you

ilayka

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ ۚ

your Lord

rabbika

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

كَانَ

is

kāna

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

خَبِيرًۭا

All-Aware

khabīran

٢

And follow that which is revealed to you from your Lord. Indeed Allāh is ever, of what you do, Aware.

— Saheeh International

وَتَوَكَّلْ

And put your trust

watawakkal

عَلَى

in

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

وَكَفَىٰ

And Allah is sufficient

wakafā

بِٱللَّهِ

And Allah is sufficient

bil-lahi

وَكِيلًۭا

(as) Disposer of affairs

wakīlan

٣

And rely upon Allāh; and sufficient is Allāh as Disposer of affairs.1

— Saheeh International

مَّا

Not

جَعَلَ

Allah (has) made

jaʿala

ٱللَّهُ

Allah (has) made

l-lahu

لِرَجُلٍۢ

for any man

lirajulin

مِّن

[of]

min

قَلْبَيْنِ

two hearts

qalbayni

فِى

in

جَوْفِهِۦ ۚ

his interior

jawfihi

وَمَا

And not

wamā

جَعَلَ

He (has) made

jaʿala

أَزْوَٰجَكُمُ

your wives

azwājakumu

ٱلَّـٰٓـِٔى

whom

allāī

تُظَـٰهِرُونَ

you declare unlawful

tuẓāhirūna

مِنْهُنَّ

[of them]

min'hunna

أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ ۚ

(as) your mothers

ummahātikum

وَمَا

And not

wamā

جَعَلَ

He has made

jaʿala

أَدْعِيَآءَكُمْ

your adopted sons

adʿiyāakum

أَبْنَآءَكُمْ ۚ

your sons

abnāakum

ذَٰلِكُمْ

That

dhālikum

قَوْلُكُم

(is) your saying

qawlukum

بِأَفْوَٰهِكُمْ ۖ

by your mouths

bi-afwāhikum

وَٱللَّهُ

but Allah

wal-lahu

يَقُولُ

says

yaqūlu

ٱلْحَقَّ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

يَهْدِى

guides

yahdī

ٱلسَّبِيلَ

(to) the Way

l-sabīla

٤

Allāh has not made for a man two hearts in his interior. And He has not made your wives whom you declare unlawful1 your mothers. And He has not made your claimed [i.e., adopted] sons your [true] sons. That is [merely] your saying by your mouths, but Allāh says the truth, and He guides to the [right] way.

— Saheeh International

ٱدْعُوهُمْ

Call them

id'ʿūhum

لِـَٔابَآئِهِمْ

by their fathers

liābāihim

هُوَ

it

huwa

أَقْسَطُ

(is) more just

aqsaṭu

عِندَ

near

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

فَإِن

But if

fa-in

لَّمْ

not

lam

تَعْلَمُوٓا۟

you know

taʿlamū

ءَابَآءَهُمْ

their fathers

ābāahum

فَإِخْوَٰنُكُمْ

then (they are) your brothers

fa-ikh'wānukum

فِى

in

ٱلدِّينِ

[the] religion

l-dīni

وَمَوَٰلِيكُمْ ۚ

and your friends

wamawālīkum

وَلَيْسَ

But not is

walaysa

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ʿalaykum

جُنَاحٌۭ

any blame

junāḥun

فِيمَآ

in what

fīmā

أَخْطَأْتُم

you made a mistake

akhṭatum

بِهِۦ

in it

bihi

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

مَّا

what

تَعَمَّدَتْ

intended

taʿammadat

قُلُوبُكُمْ ۚ

your hearts

qulūbukum

وَكَانَ

And Allah

wakāna

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah

l-lahu

غَفُورًۭا

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūran

رَّحِيمًا

Most Merciful

raḥīman

٥

Call them1 by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allāh. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you. And there is no blame upon you for that in which you have erred but [only for] what your hearts intended. And ever is Allāh Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

ٱلنَّبِىُّ

The Prophet

al-nabiyu

أَوْلَىٰ

(is) closer

awlā

بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

to the believers

bil-mu'minīna

مِنْ

than

min

أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ

their own selves

anfusihim

وَأَزْوَٰجُهُۥٓ

and his wives

wa-azwājuhu

أُمَّهَـٰتُهُمْ ۗ

(are) their mothers

ummahātuhum

وَأُو۟لُوا۟

And possessors

wa-ulū

ٱلْأَرْحَامِ

(of) relationships

l-arḥāmi

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

أَوْلَىٰ

(are) closer

awlā

بِبَعْضٍۢ

to another

bibaʿḍin

فِى

in

كِتَـٰبِ

(the) Decree

kitābi

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

مِنَ

than

mina

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

وَٱلْمُهَـٰجِرِينَ

and the emigrants

wal-muhājirīna

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

تَفْعَلُوٓا۟

you do

tafʿalū

إِلَىٰٓ

to

ilā

أَوْلِيَآئِكُم

your friends

awliyāikum

مَّعْرُوفًۭا ۚ

a kindness

maʿrūfan

كَانَ

That is

kāna

ذَٰلِكَ

That is

dhālika

فِى

in

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

the Book

l-kitābi

مَسْطُورًۭا

written

masṭūran

٦

The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves,1 and his wives are [in the position of] their mothers. And those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh than the [other] believers and the emigrants, except that you may do to your close associates a kindness [through bequest]. That was in the Book2 inscribed.

— Saheeh International
