إِنَّ Indeed inna He Who alladhī ordained faraḍa upon you ʿalayka the Quran l-qur'āna (will) surely take you back larādduka to ilā a place of return maʿādin Say qul My Lord rabbī (is) most knowing aʿlamu (of him) who man comes jāa with the guidance bil-hudā and who waman he huwa (is) in fī an error ḍalālin manifest mubīnin
Indeed, [O Muḥammad], He who imposed upon you the Qur’ān will take you back to a place of return.1 Say, "My Lord is most knowing of who brings guidance and who is in clear error."
وَمَا And not wamā you were kunta expecting tarjū that an would be sent down yul'qā to you ilayka the Book l-kitābu except illā (as) a mercy raḥmatan from min your Lord rabbika So (do) not falā be takūnanna an assistant ẓahīran to the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna
And you were not expecting that the Book would be conveyed to you, but [it is] a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an assistant to the disbelievers.1
وَلَا And (let) not walā avert you yaṣuddunnaka from ʿan (the) Verses āyāti (of) Allah l-lahi after baʿda [when] idh they have been revealed unzilat to you ilayka And invite (people) wa-ud'ʿu to ilā your Lord rabbika And (do) not walā be takūnanna of mina the polytheists l-mush'rikīna
And never let them avert you from the verses of Allāh after they have been revealed to you. And invite [people] to your Lord. And never be of those who associate others with Allāh.
وَلَا And (do) not walā invoke tadʿu with maʿa Allah l-lahi god ilāhan other ākhara (There is) no lā god ilāha except illā Him huwa Every kullu thing shayin (will be) destroyed hālikun except illā His Face wajhahu To Him lahu (is) the Decision l-ḥuk'mu and to Him wa-ilayhi you will be returned tur'jaʿūna
And do not invoke with Allāh another deity. There is no deity except Him. Everything will be destroyed except His Face.1 His is the judgement, and to Him you will be returned.

أَحَسِبَ Do think aḥasiba the people l-nāsu that an they will be left yut'rakū because an they say yaqūlū We believe āmannā and they wahum will not be tested lā will not be tested yuf'tanūna
Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?
وَلَقَدْ And indeed walaqad We tested fatannā those who alladhīna (were) before them min (were) before them qablihim And Allah will surely make evident falayaʿlamanna And Allah will surely make evident l-lahu those who alladhīna (are) truthful ṣadaqū and He will surely make evident walayaʿlamanna the liars l-kādhibīna
But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allāh will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.
أَمْ Or am think ḥasiba those who alladhīna do yaʿmalūna evil deeds l-sayiāti that an they can outrun Us yasbiqūnā Evil is sāa what mā they judge yaḥkumūna
Or do those who do evil deeds think they can outrun [i.e., escape] Us? Evil is what they judge.
مَن Whoever man [is] kāna hopes yarjū (for the) meeting liqāa (with) Allah l-lahi then indeed fa-inna (the) Term ajala (of) Allah l-lahi (is) surely coming laātin And He wahuwa (is) the All-Hearer l-samīʿu the All-Knower l-ʿalīmu
Whoever should hope for the meeting with Allāh - indeed, the term [decreed by] Allāh is coming. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
وَمَن And whoever waman strives jāhada then only fa-innamā he strives yujāhidu for himself linafsihi Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) Free from need laghaniyyun of ʿani the worlds l-ʿālamīna
And whoever strives only strives for [the benefit of] himself. Indeed, Allāh is Free from need of the worlds.
