فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

جَآءَهُم

came to them

jāahum

مُّوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

with Our Signs

biāyātinā

بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ

clear

bayyinātin

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

مَا

Not

هَـٰذَآ

(is) this

hādhā

إِلَّا

except

illā

سِحْرٌۭ

a magic

siḥ'run

مُّفْتَرًۭى

invented

muf'taran

وَمَا

and not

wamā

سَمِعْنَا

we heard

samiʿ'nā

بِهَـٰذَا

of this

bihādhā

فِىٓ

among

ءَابَآئِنَا

our forefathers

ābāinā

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

our forefathers

l-awalīna

٣٦

But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And Musa said

waqāla

مُوسَىٰ

And Musa said

mūsā

رَبِّىٓ

My Lord

rabbī

أَعْلَمُ

knows best

aʿlamu

بِمَن

of who

biman

جَآءَ

has come

jāa

بِٱلْهُدَىٰ

with [the] guidance

bil-hudā

مِنْ

from Him

min

عِندِهِۦ

from Him

ʿindihi

وَمَن

and who

waman

تَكُونُ

will be

takūnu

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

عَـٰقِبَةُ

the good end in the Hereafter

ʿāqibatu

ٱلدَّارِ ۖ

the good end in the Hereafter

l-dāri

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed

innahu

لَا

not

يُفْلِحُ

will be successful

yuf'liḥu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimūna

٣٧

And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home.1 Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And Firaun said

waqāla

فِرْعَوْنُ

And Firaun said

fir'ʿawnu

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O chiefs

yāayyuhā

ٱلْمَلَأُ

O chiefs

l-mala-u

مَا

Not

عَلِمْتُ

I know

ʿalim'tu

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنْ

any

min

إِلَـٰهٍ

god

ilāhin

غَيْرِى

other than me

ghayrī

فَأَوْقِدْ

So kindle

fa-awqid

لِى

for me

يَـٰهَـٰمَـٰنُ

O Haman

yāhāmānu

عَلَى

Upon

ʿalā

ٱلطِّينِ

the clay

l-ṭīni

فَٱجْعَل

and make

fa-ij'ʿal

لِّى

for me

صَرْحًۭا

a lofty tower

ṣarḥan

لَّعَلِّىٓ

so that [I]

laʿallī

أَطَّلِعُ

I may look

aṭṭaliʿu

إِلَىٰٓ

at

ilā

إِلَـٰهِ

(the) God

ilāhi

مُوسَىٰ

(of) Musa

mūsā

وَإِنِّى

And indeed, I

wa-innī

لَأَظُنُّهُۥ

[I] think that he

la-aẓunnuhu

مِنَ

(is) of

mina

ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ

the liars

l-kādhibīna

٣٨

And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the clay1 and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."

— Saheeh International

وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ

And he was arrogant

wa-is'takbara

هُوَ

And he was arrogant

huwa

وَجُنُودُهُۥ

and his hosts

wajunūduhu

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the land

l-arḍi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

ٱلْحَقِّ

right

l-ḥaqi

وَظَنُّوٓا۟

and they thought

waẓannū

أَنَّهُمْ

that they

annahum

إِلَيْنَا

to Us

ilaynā

لَا

not

يُرْجَعُونَ

will be returned

yur'jaʿūna

٣٩

And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.

— Saheeh International

فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ

So We seized him

fa-akhadhnāhu

وَجُنُودَهُۥ

and his hosts

wajunūdahu

فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ

and We threw them

fanabadhnāhum

فِى

in

ٱلْيَمِّ ۖ

the sea

l-yami

فَٱنظُرْ

So see

fa-unẓur

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

(of) the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٤٠

So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea.1 So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ

And We made them

wajaʿalnāhum

أَئِمَّةًۭ

leaders

a-immatan

يَدْعُونَ

inviting

yadʿūna

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلنَّارِ ۖ

the Fire

l-nāri

وَيَوْمَ

and (on the) Day

wayawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

لَا

not

يُنصَرُونَ

they will be helped

yunṣarūna

٤١

And We made them leaders1 inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.

— Saheeh International

وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ

And We caused to follow them

wa-atbaʿnāhum

فِى

in

هَـٰذِهِ

this

hādhihi

ٱلدُّنْيَا

world

l-dun'yā

لَعْنَةًۭ ۖ

a curse

laʿnatan

وَيَوْمَ

and (on the) Day

wayawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

هُم

they

hum

مِّنَ

(will be) of

mina

ٱلْمَقْبُوحِينَ

the despised

l-maqbūḥīna

٤٢

And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.1

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And verily

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

مُوسَى

Musa

mūsā

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Scripture

l-kitāba

مِنۢ

after [what]

min

بَعْدِ

after [what]

baʿdi

مَآ

after [what]

أَهْلَكْنَا

We had destroyed

ahlaknā

ٱلْقُرُونَ

the generations

l-qurūna

ٱلْأُولَىٰ

former

l-ūlā

بَصَآئِرَ

(as) an enlightenment

baṣāira

لِلنَّاسِ

for the mankind

lilnnāsi

وَهُدًۭى

and a guidance

wahudan

وَرَحْمَةًۭ

and mercy

waraḥmatan

لَّعَلَّهُمْ

that they may

laʿallahum

يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

remember

yatadhakkarūna

٤٣

And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.

— Saheeh International
