فَلَمَّا But when falammā came to them jāahum Musa mūsā with Our Signs biāyātinā clear bayyinātin they said qālū Not mā (is) this hādhā except illā a magic siḥ'run invented muf'taran and not wamā we heard samiʿ'nā of this bihādhā among fī our forefathers ābāinā our forefathers l-awalīna
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."
وَقَالَ And Musa said waqāla And Musa said mūsā My Lord rabbī knows best aʿlamu of who biman has come jāa with [the] guidance bil-hudā from Him min from Him ʿindihi and who waman will be takūnu for him lahu the good end in the Hereafter ʿāqibatu the good end in the Hereafter l-dāri Indeed innahu not lā will be successful yuf'liḥu the wrongdoers l-ẓālimūna
And Moses said, "My Lord is more knowing [than we or you] of who has come with guidance from Him and to whom will be succession in the home.1 Indeed, wrongdoers do not succeed."
وَقَالَ And Firaun said waqāla And Firaun said fir'ʿawnu O chiefs yāayyuhā O chiefs l-mala-u Not mā I know ʿalim'tu for you lakum any min god ilāhin other than me ghayrī So kindle fa-awqid for me lī O Haman yāhāmānu Upon ʿalā the clay l-ṭīni and make fa-ij'ʿal for me lī a lofty tower ṣarḥan so that [I] laʿallī I may look aṭṭaliʿu at ilā (the) God ilāhi (of) Musa mūsā And indeed, I wa-innī [I] think that he la-aẓunnuhu (is) of mina the liars l-kādhibīna
And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Hāmān, [a fire] upon the clay1 and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."
وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ And he was arrogant wa-is'takbara And he was arrogant huwa and his hosts wajunūduhu in fī the land l-arḍi without bighayri right l-ḥaqi and they thought waẓannū that they annahum to Us ilaynā not lā will be returned yur'jaʿūna
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.
فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ So We seized him fa-akhadhnāhu and his hosts wajunūdahu and We threw them fanabadhnāhum in fī the sea l-yami So see fa-unẓur how kayfa was kāna (the) end ʿāqibatu (of) the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea.1 So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.
وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ And We made them wajaʿalnāhum leaders a-immatan inviting yadʿūna to ilā the Fire l-nāri and (on the) Day wayawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati not lā they will be helped yunṣarūna
And We made them leaders1 inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.
وَأَتْبَعْنَـٰهُمْ And We caused to follow them wa-atbaʿnāhum in fī this hādhihi world l-dun'yā a curse laʿnatan and (on the) Day wayawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati they hum (will be) of mina the despised l-maqbūḥīna
And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.1
وَلَقَدْ And verily walaqad We gave ātaynā Musa mūsā the Scripture l-kitāba after [what] min after [what] baʿdi after [what] mā We had destroyed ahlaknā the generations l-qurūna former l-ūlā (as) an enlightenment baṣāira for the mankind lilnnāsi and a guidance wahudan and mercy waraḥmatan that they may laʿallahum remember yatadhakkarūna
And We gave Moses the Scripture, after We had destroyed the former generations, as enlightenment for the people and guidance and mercy that they might be reminded.
