مَآ Not mā (will) avail aghnā them ʿanhum what mā enjoyment they were given kānū enjoyment they were given yumattaʿūna
They would not be availed by the enjoyment with which they were provided.
وَمَآ And not wamā We destroyed ahlaknā any min town qaryatin but illā it had lahā warners mundhirūna
And We did not destroy any city except that it had warners
ذِكْرَىٰ (To) remind dhik'rā and not wamā We are kunnā unjust ẓālimīna
As a reminder; and never have We been unjust.
وَمَا And not wamā have brought it down tanazzalat have brought it down bihi the devils l-shayāṭīnu
And the devils have not brought it [i.e., the revelation] down.1
وَمَا And not wamā (it) suits yanbaghī [for] them lahum and not wamā they are able yastaṭīʿūna
It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able.
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum from ʿani the hearing l-samʿi (are) surely banished lamaʿzūlūna
Indeed they, from [its] hearing, are removed.1
فَلَا So (do) not falā invoke tadʿu with maʿa Allah l-lahi god ilāhan another ākhara lest you be fatakūna of mina those punished l-muʿadhabīna
So do not invoke1 with Allāh another deity and [thus] be among the punished.
وَأَنذِرْ And warn wa-andhir your kindred ʿashīrataka [the] closest l-aqrabīna
And warn, [O Muḥammad], your closest kindred.
وَٱخْفِضْ And lower wa-ikh'fiḍ your wing janāḥaka to (those) who limani follow you ittabaʿaka of mina the believers l-mu'minīna
And lower your wing [i.e., show kindness] to those who follow you of the believers.
فَإِنْ Then if fa-in they disobey you ʿaṣawka then say faqul Indeed, I am innī innocent barīon of what mimmā you do taʿmalūna
And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing."
وَتَوَكَّلْ And put (your) trust watawakkal in ʿalā the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzi the Most Merciful l-raḥīmi
And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful,
ٱلَّذِى The One Who alladhī sees you yarāka when ḥīna you stand up taqūmu
Who sees you when you arise1
وَتَقَلُّبَكَ And your movements wataqallubaka among fī those who prostrate l-sājidīna
And your movement among those who prostrate.1
إِنَّهُۥ Indeed, He innahu [He] huwa (is) the All-Hearer l-samīʿu the All-Knower l-ʿalīmu
Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
هَلْ Shall hal I inform you unabbi-ukum upon ʿalā whom man descend tanazzalu the devils l-shayāṭīnu
Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend?
تَنَزَّلُ They descend tanazzalu upon ʿalā every kulli liar affākin sinful athīmin
They descend upon every sinful liar.
يُلْقُونَ They pass on yul'qūna (what is) heard l-samʿa and most of them wa-aktharuhum (are) liars kādhibūna
They pass on what is heard,1 and most of them are liars.
وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُ And the poets wal-shuʿarāu follow them yattabiʿuhumu the deviators l-ghāwūna
And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them;
أَلَمْ Do not alam you see tara that they annahum in fī every kulli valley wādin [they] roam yahīmūna
Do you not see that in every valley they roam1
وَأَنَّهُمْ And that they wa-annahum say yaqūlūna what mā not lā they do yafʿalūna
And that they say what they do not do? -
إِلَّا Except illā those who alladhīna believe āmanū and do waʿamilū righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti and remember wadhakarū Allah l-laha much kathīran and defend themselves wa-intaṣarū after min after baʿdi after mā they were wronged ẓulimū And will come to know wasayaʿlamu those who alladhīna have wronged ẓalamū (to) what ayya return munqalabin they will return yanqalibūna
Except those [poets] who believe and do righteous deeds and remember Allāh often and defend [the Muslims]1 after they were wronged. And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.
