قَالَ He said qāla This hādhā (is) a mercy raḥmatun from min my Lord rabbī But when fa-idhā comes jāa (the) Promise waʿdu (of) my Lord rabbī He will make it jaʿalahu level dakkāa And is wakāna (the) Promise waʿdu (of) my Lord rabbī true ḥaqqan
[Dhul-Qarnayn] said, "This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord1 comes [i.e., approaches], He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true."
۞ وَتَرَكْنَا And We (will) leave wataraknā some of them baʿḍahum (on) that Day yawma-idhin to surge yamūju over fī others baʿḍin and (will be) blown wanufikha in fī the trumpet l-ṣūri then We (will) gather them fajamaʿnāhum all together jamʿan
And We will leave them that day1 surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly.
وَعَرَضْنَا And We (will) present waʿaraḍnā Hell jahannama (on) that Day yawma-idhin to the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna (on) display ʿarḍan
And We will present Hell that Day to the disbelievers, on display -
ٱلَّذِينَ Those alladhīna had been kānat their eyes aʿyunuhum within fī a cover ghiṭāin from ʿan My remembrance dhik'rī and were wakānū not lā able yastaṭīʿūna (to) hear samʿan
Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance,1 and they were not able to hear.2
أَفَحَسِبَ Do then think afaḥasiba those who alladhīna disbelieve kafarū that an they (can) take yattakhidhū My servants ʿibādī besides Me min besides Me dūnī (as) protectors awliyāa Indeed, We innā We have prepared aʿtadnā Hell jahannama for the disbelievers lil'kāfirīna (as) a lodging nuzulan
Then do those who disbelieve think that they can take My servants instead of Me as allies? Indeed, We have prepared Hell for the disbelievers as a lodging.
قُلْ Say qul Shall hal We inform you nunabbi-ukum of the greatest losers bil-akhsarīna (as to their) deeds aʿmālan
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Shall we [believers] inform you of the greatest losers as to [their] deeds?
ٱلَّذِينَ Those alladhīna is lost ḍalla their effort saʿyuhum in fī the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā while they wahum think yaḥsabūna that they annahum (were) acquiring good yuḥ'sinūna (in) work ṣun'ʿan
[They are] those whose effort is lost in worldly life, while they think that they are doing well in work."
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika (are) the ones who alladhīna disbelieve kafarū in the Verses biāyāti (of) their Lord rabbihim and the meeting (with) Him waliqāihi So (are) vain faḥabiṭat their deeds aʿmāluhum so not falā We will assign nuqīmu for them lahum (on) the Day yawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati any weight waznan
Those are the ones who disbelieve in the verses of their Lord and in [their] meeting Him, so their deeds have become worthless; and We will not assign to them on the Day of Resurrection any weight [i.e., importance].
ذَٰلِكَ That dhālika (is) their recompense jazāuhum Hell jahannamu because bimā they disbelieved kafarū and took wa-ittakhadhū My Verses āyātī and My Messengers warusulī (in) ridicule huzuwan
That is their recompense - Hell - for what they denied and [because] they took My signs and My messengers in ridicule.
إِنَّ Indeed inna those who alladhīna believed āmanū and did waʿamilū righteous deeds l-ṣāliḥāti for them will be kānat for them will be lahum Gardens jannātu (of) the Paradise l-fir'dawsi (as) a lodging nuzulan
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - they will have the Gardens of Paradise1 as a lodging,
خَـٰلِدِينَ Abiding forever khālidīna in it fīhā Not lā they will desire yabghūna from it ʿanhā any transfer ḥiwalan
Wherein they abide eternally. They will not desire from it any transfer.
قُل Say qul If law were kāna the sea l-baḥru ink midādan for (the) Words likalimāti (of) my Lord rabbī surely (would be) exhausted lanafida the sea l-baḥru before qabla [that] an (were) exhausted tanfada (the) Words kalimātu (of) my Lord rabbī even if walaw We brought ji'nā (the) like (of) it bimith'lihi (as) a supplement madadan
Say, "If the sea were ink for [writing] the words1 of my Lord, the sea would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even if We brought the like of it in [continual] supplement."
قُلْ Say qul Only innamā I anā (am) a man basharun like you mith'lukum Has been revealed yūḥā to me ilayya that annamā your God ilāhukum (is) God ilāhun One wāḥidun So whoever faman is kāna hoping yarjū (for the) meeting liqāa (with) his Lord rabbihi let him do falyaʿmal deeds ʿamalan righteous ṣāliḥan and not walā associate yush'rik in (the) worship biʿibādati (of) his Lord rabbihi anyone aḥadan
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone."
