وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We have explained ṣarrafnā in fī this hādhā the Quran l-qur'āni for mankind lilnnāsi of min every kulli example mathalin But is wakāna the man l-insānu (in) most akthara things shayin quarrelsome jadalan
And We have certainly diversified in this Qur’ān for the people from every [kind of] example; but man has ever been, most of anything, [prone to] dispute.
وَمَا And nothing wamā prevents manaʿa men l-nāsa that an they believe yu'minū when idh has come to them jāahumu the guidance l-hudā and they ask forgiveness wayastaghfirū (of) their Lord rabbahum except illā that an comes to them tatiyahum (the) way sunnatu (of) the former (people) l-awalīna or aw comes to them yatiyahumu the punishment l-ʿadhābu before (them) qubulan
And nothing has prevented the people from believing when guidance came to them and from asking forgiveness of their Lord except that there [must] befall them the [accustomed] precedent of the former peoples1 or that the punishment should come [directly] before them.
وَمَا And not wamā We send nur'silu the Messengers l-mur'salīna except illā (as) bearers of glad tidings mubashirīna and (as) warners wamundhirīna And dispute wayujādilu those who alladhīna disbelieve kafarū with falsehood bil-bāṭili to refute liyud'ḥiḍū thereby bihi the truth l-ḥaqa And they take wa-ittakhadhū My Verses āyātī and what wamā they are warned undhirū (in) ridicule huzuwan
And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. And those who disbelieve dispute by [using] falsehood to [attempt to] invalidate thereby the truth and have taken My verses, and that of which they are warned, in ridicule.
وَمَنْ And who waman (is) more wrong aẓlamu than (he) who mimman is reminded dhukkira of the Verses biāyāti (of) his Lord rabbihi but turns away fa-aʿraḍa from them ʿanhā and forgets wanasiya what mā have sent forth qaddamat his hands yadāhu Indeed, We innā [We] have placed jaʿalnā over ʿalā their hearts qulūbihim coverings akinnatan lest an they understand it yafqahūhu and in wafī their ears ādhānihim (is) deafness waqran And if wa-in you call them tadʿuhum to ilā the guidance l-hudā then never falan they will be guided yahtadū then idhan ever abadan
And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance - they will never be guided, then - ever.
وَرَبُّكَ And your Lord warabbuka (is) the Most Forgiving l-ghafūru Owner dhū (of) the Mercy l-raḥmati If law He were to seize them yuākhidhuhum for what bimā they have earned kasabū surely, He (would) have hastened laʿajjala for them lahumu the punishment l-ʿadhāba But bal for them lahum (is) an appointment mawʿidun never lan they will find yajidū other than it min other than it dūnihi an escape mawilan
And your Lord is the Forgiving, the possessor of mercy. If He were to impose blame upon them for what they earned, He would have hastened for them the punishment. Rather, for them is an appointment from which they will never find an escape.
وَتِلْكَ And these watil'ka [the] towns l-qurā We destroyed them ahlaknāhum when lammā they wronged ẓalamū and We made wajaʿalnā for their destruction limahlikihim an appointed time mawʿidan
And those cities - We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time.
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh said qāla Musa mūsā to his boy lifatāhu Not lā I will cease abraḥu until ḥattā I reach ablugha the junction majmaʿa (of) the two seas l-baḥrayni or aw I continue amḍiya (for) a long period ḥuquban
And [mention] when Moses said to his boy [i.e., servant], "I will not cease [traveling] until I reach the junction of the two seas or continue for a long period."
فَلَمَّا But when falammā they reached balaghā the junction majmaʿa between them baynihimā they forgot nasiyā their fish ḥūtahumā and it took fa-ittakhadha its way sabīlahu into fī the sea l-baḥri slipping away saraban
But when they reached the junction between them, they forgot their fish, and it took its course into the sea, slipping away.
