إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve[d]

kafarū

سَوَآءٌ

(it) is same

sawāon

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَأَنذَرْتَهُمْ

whether you warn them

a-andhartahum

أَمْ

or

am

لَمْ

not

lam

تُنذِرْهُمْ

you warn them

tundhir'hum

لَا

not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

they believe

yu'minūna

٦

Indeed, those who disbelieve1 - it is all the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them - they will not believe.

— Saheeh International

خَتَمَ

Has set a seal

khatama

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

قُلُوبِهِمْ

their hearts

qulūbihim

وَعَلَىٰ

and on

waʿalā

سَمْعِهِمْ ۖ

their hearing

samʿihim

وَعَلَىٰٓ

and on

waʿalā

أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ

their vision

abṣārihim

غِشَـٰوَةٌۭ ۖ

(is) a veil

ghishāwatun

وَلَهُمْ

And for them

walahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

٧

Allāh has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing, and over their vision is a veil.1 And for them is a great punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَمِنَ

And of

wamina

ٱلنَّاسِ

the people

l-nāsi

مَن

(are some) who

man

يَقُولُ

say

yaqūlu

ءَامَنَّا

We believed

āmannā

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَبِٱلْيَوْمِ

and in the Day

wabil-yawmi

ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ

[the] Last

l-ākhiri

وَمَا

but not

wamā

هُم

they

hum

بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

(are) believers (at all)

bimu'minīna

٨

And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allāh and the Last Day," but they are not believers.

— Saheeh International

يُخَـٰدِعُونَ

They seek to deceive

yukhādiʿūna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe[d]

āmanū

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَخْدَعُونَ

they deceive

yakhdaʿūna

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَنفُسَهُمْ

themselves

anfusahum

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يَشْعُرُونَ

they realize (it)

yashʿurūna

٩

They [think to] deceive Allāh and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.

— Saheeh International

فِى

In

قُلُوبِهِم

their hearts

qulūbihim

مَّرَضٌۭ

(is) a disease

maraḍun

فَزَادَهُمُ

so has increased them

fazādahumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

مَرَضًۭا ۖ

(in) disease

maraḍan

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۢ

painful

alīmun

بِمَا

because

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْذِبُونَ

[they] lie

yakdhibūna

١٠

In their hearts is disease, so Allāh has increased their disease;1 and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قِيلَ

it is said

qīla

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

لَا

(Do) not

تُفْسِدُوا۟

spread corruption

tuf'sidū

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

قَالُوٓا۟

they say

qālū

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

مُصْلِحُونَ

(are) reformers

muṣ'liḥūna

١١

And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers."

— Saheeh International

أَلَآ

Beware

alā

إِنَّهُمْ

indeed they

innahum

هُمُ

themselves

humu

ٱلْمُفْسِدُونَ

(are) the ones who spread corruption

l-muf'sidūna

وَلَـٰكِن

[and] but

walākin

لَّا

not

يَشْعُرُونَ

they realize (it)

yashʿurūna

١٢

Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قِيلَ

it is said

qīla

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

ءَامِنُوا۟

Believe

āminū

كَمَآ

as

kamā

ءَامَنَ

believed

āmana

ٱلنَّاسُ

the people

l-nāsu

قَالُوٓا۟

they say

qālū

أَنُؤْمِنُ

Should we believe

anu'minu

كَمَآ

as

kamā

ءَامَنَ

believed

āmana

ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ ۗ

the fools

l-sufahāu

أَلَآ

Beware

alā

إِنَّهُمْ

certainly they

innahum

هُمُ

themselves

humu

ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ

(are) the fools

l-sufahāu

وَلَـٰكِن

[and] but

walākin

لَّا

not

يَعْلَمُونَ

they know

yaʿlamūna

١٣

And when it is said to them, "Believe as the people have believed," they say, "Should we believe as the foolish have believed?" Unquestionably, it is they who are the foolish, but they know [it] not.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

لَقُوا۟

they meet

laqū

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe[d]

āmanū

قَالُوٓا۟

they say

qālū

ءَامَنَّا

We believe[d]

āmannā

وَإِذَا

But when

wa-idhā

خَلَوْا۟

they are alone

khalaw

إِلَىٰ

with

ilā

شَيَـٰطِينِهِمْ

their evil ones

shayāṭīnihim

قَالُوٓا۟

they say

qālū

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

مَعَكُمْ

(are) with you

maʿakum

إِنَّمَا

only

innamā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

مُسْتَهْزِءُونَ

(are) mockers

mus'tahziūna

١٤

And when they meet those who believe, they say, "We believe"; but when they are alone with their evil ones, they say, "Indeed, we are with you; we were only mockers."

— Saheeh International

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

يَسْتَهْزِئُ

mocks

yastahzi-u

بِهِمْ

at them

bihim

وَيَمُدُّهُمْ

and prolongs them

wayamudduhum

فِى

in

طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ

their transgression

ṭugh'yānihim

يَعْمَهُونَ

they wander blindly

yaʿmahūna

١٥

[But] Allāh mocks them and prolongs them in their transgression [while] they wander blindly.

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) the ones who

alladhīna

ٱشْتَرَوُا۟

bought

ish'tarawū

ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةَ

[the] astraying

l-ḍalālata

بِٱلْهُدَىٰ

for [the] guidance

bil-hudā

فَمَا

So not

famā

رَبِحَت

profited

rabiḥat

تِّجَـٰرَتُهُمْ

their commerce

tijāratuhum

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانُوا۟

were they

kānū

مُهْتَدِينَ

guided-ones

muh'tadīna

١٦

Those are the ones who have purchased error [in exchange] for guidance, so their transaction has brought no profit, nor were they guided.

— Saheeh International
