وَإِذِ And when wa-idhi you withdraw from them iʿ'tazaltumūhum and what wamā they worship yaʿbudūna except illā Allah l-laha then retreat fawū to ilā the cave l-kahfi Will spread yanshur for you lakum your Lord rabbukum of min His Mercy raḥmatihi and will facilitate wayuhayyi for you lakum [from] min your affair amrikum (in) ease mir'faqan
[The youths said to one another], "And when you have withdrawn from them and that which they worship other than Allāh, retreat to the cave. Your Lord will spread out for you of His mercy and will prepare for you from your affair facility."
۞ وَتَرَى And you (might) have seen watarā the sun l-shamsa when idhā it rose ṭalaʿat inclining away tazāwaru from ʿan their cave kahfihim to dhāta the right l-yamīni and when wa-idhā it set gharabat passing away from them taqriḍuhum to dhāta the left l-shimāli while they wahum (lay) in fī the open space fajwatin thereof min'hu That dhālika (was) from min (the) Signs āyāti (of) Allah l-lahi Whoever man Allah guides yahdi Allah guides l-lahu and he fahuwa (is) the guided one l-muh'tadi and whoever waman He lets go astray yuḍ'lil then never falan you will find tajida for him lahu a protector waliyyan a guide mur'shidan
And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [lying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allāh. He whom Allāh guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He sends astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide.
وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ And you (would) think them wataḥsabuhum awake ayqāẓan while they wahum (were) asleep ruqūdun And We turned them wanuqallibuhum to dhāta the right l-yamīni and to wadhāta the left l-shimāli while their dog wakalbuhum stretched bāsiṭun his two forelegs dhirāʿayhi at the entrance bil-waṣīdi If lawi you had looked iṭṭalaʿta at them ʿalayhim you (would) have surely turned back lawallayta from them min'hum (in) flight firāran and surely you would have been filled walamuli'ta by them min'hum (with) terror ruʿ'ban
And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And similarly wakadhālika We raised them baʿathnāhum that they might question liyatasāalū among them baynahum Said qāla a speaker qāilun among them min'hum How long kam have you remained labith'tum They said qālū We have remained labith'nā a day yawman or aw a part baʿḍa (of) a day yawmin They said qālū Your Lord rabbukum knows best aʿlamu how long bimā you have remained labith'tum So send fa-ib'ʿathū one of you aḥadakum with this silver coin of yours biwariqikum with this silver coin of yours hādhihi to ilā the city l-madīnati and let him see falyanẓur which is ayyuhā the purest azkā food ṭaʿāman and let him bring to you falyatikum provision biriz'qin from it min'hu and let him be cautious walyatalaṭṭaf And let not be aware walā And let not be aware yush'ʿiranna about you bikum anyone aḥadan
And similarly,1 We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, "How long have you remained [here]?" They said, "We have remained a day or part of a day." They said, "Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you.
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, [they] innahum if in they come to know yaẓharū about you ʿalaykum they will stone you yarjumūkum or aw return you yuʿīdūkum to fī their religion millatihim And never walan will you succeed tuf'liḥū then idhan ever abadan
Indeed, if they come to know of you, they will stone you or return you to their religion. And never would you succeed, then - ever."
