قَالَ

He said

qāla

يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ

O Iblis

yāib'līsu

مَا

What

لَكَ

(is) for you

laka

أَلَّا

that not

allā

تَكُونَ

you are

takūna

مَعَ

with

maʿa

ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ

those who prostrated

l-sājidīna

٣٢

[Allāh] said, "O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

لَمْ

I am not

lam

أَكُن

I am not

akun

لِّأَسْجُدَ

(one) to prostrate

li-asjuda

لِبَشَرٍ

to a human

libasharin

خَلَقْتَهُۥ

whom You created

khalaqtahu

مِن

(out) of

min

صَلْصَـٰلٍۢ

clay

ṣalṣālin

مِّنْ

from

min

حَمَإٍۢ

black mud

ḥama-in

مَّسْنُونٍۢ

altered

masnūnin

٣٣

He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

فَٱخْرُجْ

Then get out

fa-ukh'ruj

مِنْهَا

of it

min'hā

فَإِنَّكَ

for indeed, you

fa-innaka

رَجِيمٌۭ

(are) expelled

rajīmun

٣٤

[Allāh] said, "Then depart from it,1 for indeed, you are expelled.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

عَلَيْكَ

upon you

ʿalayka

ٱللَّعْنَةَ

(will be) the curse

l-laʿnata

إِلَىٰ

till

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

ٱلدِّينِ

(of) [the] Judgment

l-dīni

٣٥

And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

O my Lord

rabbi

فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ

Then give me respite

fa-anẓir'nī

إِلَىٰ

till

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

يُبْعَثُونَ

they are raised

yub'ʿathūna

٣٦

He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

فَإِنَّكَ

Then indeed you

fa-innaka

مِنَ

(are) of

mina

ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ

the ones given respite

l-munẓarīna

٣٧

[Allāh] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

— Saheeh International

إِلَىٰ

Till

ilā

يَوْمِ

the Day

yawmi

ٱلْوَقْتِ

(of) the time

l-waqti

ٱلْمَعْلُومِ

well-known

l-maʿlūmi

٣٨

Until the Day of the time well-known."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

بِمَآ

Because

bimā

أَغْوَيْتَنِى

You misled me

aghwaytanī

لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ

surely, I will make (evil) fair-seeming

la-uzayyinanna

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ

and I will mislead them

wala-ugh'wiyannahum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٣٩

[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them [i.e., mankind] on earth, and I will mislead them all

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

عِبَادَكَ

Your slaves

ʿibādaka

مِنْهُمُ

among them

min'humu

ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ

the ones who are sincere

l-mukh'laṣīna

٤٠

Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

صِرَٰطٌ

(is) the way

ṣirāṭun

عَلَىَّ

to Me

ʿalayya

مُسْتَقِيمٌ

straight

mus'taqīmun

٤١

[Allāh] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

عِبَادِى

My slaves

ʿibādī

لَيْسَ

not

laysa

لَكَ

you have

laka

عَلَيْهِمْ

over them

ʿalayhim

سُلْطَـٰنٌ

any authority

sul'ṭānun

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَنِ

those who

mani

ٱتَّبَعَكَ

follow you

ittabaʿaka

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْغَاوِينَ

the ones who go astray

l-ghāwīna

٤٢

Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ

(is) surely the promised place for them

lamawʿiduhum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٤٣

And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.

— Saheeh International

لَهَا

For it

lahā

سَبْعَةُ

(are) seven

sabʿatu

أَبْوَٰبٍۢ

gates

abwābin

لِّكُلِّ

for each

likulli

بَابٍۢ

gate

bābin

مِّنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

جُزْءٌۭ

(is) a portion

juz'on

مَّقْسُومٌ

assigned

maqsūmun

٤٤

It has seven gates; for every gate is of them [i.e., Satan's followers] a portion designated."

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

the righteous

l-mutaqīna

فِى

(will be) in

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

Gardens

jannātin

وَعُيُونٍ

and water springs

waʿuyūnin

٤٥

Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs,

— Saheeh International

ٱدْخُلُوهَا

Enter it

ud'khulūhā

بِسَلَـٰمٍ

in peace

bisalāmin

ءَامِنِينَ

secure

āminīna

٤٦

[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."

— Saheeh International

وَنَزَعْنَا

And We (will) remove

wanazaʿnā

مَا

what

فِى

(is) in

صُدُورِهِم

their breasts

ṣudūrihim

مِّنْ

of

min

غِلٍّ

rancor

ghillin

إِخْوَٰنًا

(they will be) brothers

ikh'wānan

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

سُرُرٍۢ

thrones

sururin

مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ

facing each other

mutaqābilīna

٤٧

And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment,1 [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

يَمَسُّهُمْ

will touch them

yamassuhum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

نَصَبٌۭ

fatigue

naṣabun

وَمَا

and not

wamā

هُم

they

hum

مِّنْهَا

from it

min'hā

بِمُخْرَجِينَ

will be removed

bimukh'rajīna

٤٨

No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.

— Saheeh International

۞ نَبِّئْ

Inform

nabbi

عِبَادِىٓ

My slaves

ʿibādī

أَنِّىٓ

that I

annī

أَنَا

I am

anā

ٱلْغَفُورُ

the Oft-Forgiving

l-ghafūru

ٱلرَّحِيمُ

the Most Merciful

l-raḥīmu

٤٩

[O Muḥammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful,

— Saheeh International

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

عَذَابِى

My punishment

ʿadhābī

هُوَ

it

huwa

ٱلْعَذَابُ

(is) the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

ٱلْأَلِيمُ

the most painful

l-alīmu

٥٠

And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ

And inform them

wanabbi'hum

عَن

about

ʿan

ضَيْفِ

(the) guests

ḍayfi

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

(of) Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

٥١

And inform them about the guests of Abraham,

— Saheeh International
