وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

تُتْلَىٰ

are recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَايَاتُنَا

Our Verses

āyātunā

بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ ۙ

(as) clear proofs

bayyinātin

قَالَ

said

qāla

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يَرْجُونَ

hope

yarjūna

لِقَآءَنَا

(for the) meeting (with) Us

liqāanā

ٱئْتِ

Bring us

i'ti

بِقُرْءَانٍ

a Quran

biqur'ānin

غَيْرِ

other (than)

ghayri

هَـٰذَآ

this

hādhā

أَوْ

or

aw

بَدِّلْهُ ۚ

change it

baddil'hu

قُلْ

Say

qul

مَا

Not

يَكُونُ

(it) is

yakūnu

لِىٓ

for me

أَنْ

that

an

أُبَدِّلَهُۥ

I change it

ubaddilahu

مِن

of

min

تِلْقَآئِ

my own accord

til'qāi

نَفْسِىٓ ۖ

my own accord

nafsī

إِنْ

Not

in

أَتَّبِعُ

I follow

attabiʿu

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَا

what

يُوحَىٰٓ

is revealed

yūḥā

إِلَىَّ ۖ

to me

ilayya

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَخَافُ

[I] fear

akhāfu

إِنْ

if

in

عَصَيْتُ

I were to disobey

ʿaṣaytu

رَبِّى

my Lord

rabbī

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

يَوْمٍ

(of) a Day

yawmin

عَظِيمٍۢ

Great

ʿaẓīmin

١٥

And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who do not expect the meeting with Us say, "Bring us a Qur’ān other than this or change it." Say, [O Muḥammad], "It is not for me to change it on my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

— Saheeh International

تَلَوْتُهُۥ

I (would) have recited it

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

وَلَآ

and not

walā

أَدْرَىٰكُم

He (would) have made it known to you

adrākum

بِهِۦ ۖ

He (would) have made it known to you

bihi

فَقَدْ

Verily

faqad

لَبِثْتُ

I have stayed

labith'tu

فِيكُمْ

among you

fīkum

عُمُرًۭا

a lifetime

ʿumuran

مِّن

before it

min

قَبْلِهِۦٓ ۚ

before it

qablihi

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَعْقِلُونَ

you use reason

taʿqilūna

١٦

Say, "If Allāh had willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would He have made it known to you, for I had remained among you a lifetime before it.1 Then will you not reason?"

— Saheeh International

فَمَنْ

So who

faman

أَظْلَمُ

(is) more wrong

aẓlamu

مِمَّنِ

than he who

mimmani

ٱفْتَرَىٰ

invents

if'tarā

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

كَذِبًا

a lie

kadhiban

أَوْ

or

aw

كَذَّبَ

denies

kadhaba

بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ

His Signs

biāyātihi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed

innahu

لَا

not

يُفْلِحُ

will succeed

yuf'liḥu

ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

the criminals

l-muj'rimūna

١٧

So who is more unjust than he who invents a lie about Allāh or denies His signs? Indeed, the criminals will not succeed.

— Saheeh International

وَيَعْبُدُونَ

And they worship

wayaʿbudūna

مِن

from

min

دُونِ

other than

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مَا

that (which)

لَا

(does) not

يَضُرُّهُمْ

harm them

yaḍurruhum

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَنفَعُهُمْ

benefit them

yanfaʿuhum

وَيَقُولُونَ

and they say

wayaqūlūna

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

These

hāulāi

شُفَعَـٰٓؤُنَا

(are) our intercessors

shufaʿāunā

عِندَ

with

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

قُلْ

Say

qul

أَتُنَبِّـُٔونَ

Do you inform

atunabbiūna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

بِمَا

of what

bimā

لَا

not

يَعْلَمُ

he knows

yaʿlamu

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَلَا

and not

walā

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

the earth

l-arḍi

سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ

Glorified is He

sub'ḥānahu

وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ

and Exalted

wataʿālā

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يُشْرِكُونَ

they associate (with Him)

yush'rikūna

١٨

And they worship other than Allāh that which neither harms them nor benefits them, and they say, "These are our intercessors with Allāh." Say, "Do you inform Allāh of something He does not know in the heavens or on the earth?" Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَانَ

was

kāna

ٱلنَّاسُ

the mankind

l-nāsu

إِلَّآ

but

illā

أُمَّةًۭ

a community

ummatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

فَٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ ۚ

then they differed

fa-ikh'talafū

وَلَوْلَا

And had (it) not been

walawlā

كَلِمَةٌۭ

a word

kalimatun

سَبَقَتْ

(that) preceded

sabaqat

مِن

from

min

رَّبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

لَقُضِىَ

surely, it (would) have been judged

laquḍiya

بَيْنَهُمْ

between them

baynahum

فِيمَا

concerning what

fīmā

فِيهِ

[therein]

fīhi

يَخْتَلِفُونَ

they differ

yakhtalifūna

١٩

And mankind was not but one community [united in religion], but [then] they differed. And if not for a word1 that preceded from your Lord, it would have been judged between them [immediately] concerning that over which they differ.

— Saheeh International

وَيَقُولُونَ

And they say

wayaqūlūna

لَوْلَآ

Why not

lawlā

أُنزِلَ

is sent down

unzila

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

ءَايَةٌۭ

a Sign

āyatun

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّهِۦ ۖ

his Lord

rabbihi

فَقُلْ

So say

faqul

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

ٱلْغَيْبُ

the unseen

l-ghaybu

لِلَّهِ

(is) for Allah

lillahi

فَٱنتَظِرُوٓا۟

so wait

fa-intaẓirū

إِنِّى

indeed, I am

innī

مَعَكُم

with you

maʿakum

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُنتَظِرِينَ

the ones who wait

l-muntaẓirīna

٢٠

And they say, "Why is a sign not sent down to him from his Lord?" So say, "The unseen is only for Allāh [to administer], so wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."

— Saheeh International
