وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

يَرْفَعُ

(was) raising

yarfaʿu

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīmu

ٱلْقَوَاعِدَ

the foundations

l-qawāʿida

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْبَيْتِ

the House

l-bayti

وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلُ

and Ishmael

wa-is'māʿīlu

رَبَّنَا

(saying), "Our Lord

rabbanā

تَقَبَّلْ

Accept

taqabbal

مِنَّآ ۖ

from us

minnā

إِنَّكَ

Indeed You

innaka

أَنتَ

[You] (are)

anta

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

the All-Hearing

l-samīʿu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

the All-Knowing

l-ʿalīmu

١٢٧

And [mention] when Abraham was raising the foundations of the House and [with him] Ishmael, [saying], "Our Lord, accept [this] from us. Indeed, You are the Hearing,1 the Knowing.2

— Saheeh International

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

وَٱجْعَلْنَا

[and] Make us

wa-ij'ʿalnā

مُسْلِمَيْنِ

both submissive

mus'limayni

لَكَ

to You

laka

وَمِن

And from

wamin

ذُرِّيَّتِنَآ

our offspring

dhurriyyatinā

أُمَّةًۭ

a community

ummatan

مُّسْلِمَةًۭ

submissive

mus'limatan

لَّكَ

to You

laka

وَأَرِنَا

And show us

wa-arinā

مَنَاسِكَنَا

our ways of worship

manāsikanā

وَتُبْ

and turn

watub

عَلَيْنَآ ۖ

to us

ʿalaynā

إِنَّكَ

Indeed You

innaka

أَنتَ

[You] (are)

anta

ٱلتَّوَّابُ

the Oft-returning

l-tawābu

ٱلرَّحِيمُ

the Most Merciful

l-raḥīmu

١٢٨

Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites [of worship] and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of Repentance, the Merciful.

— Saheeh International

رَبَّنَا

Our Lord

rabbanā

وَٱبْعَثْ

[And] raise up

wa-ib'ʿath

فِيهِمْ

in them

fīhim

رَسُولًۭا

a Messenger

rasūlan

مِّنْهُمْ

from them

min'hum

يَتْلُوا۟

(who) will recite

yatlū

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَايَـٰتِكَ

Your Verses

āyātika

وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ

and will teach them

wayuʿallimuhumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ

and the wisdom

wal-ḥik'mata

وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ ۚ

and purify them

wayuzakkīhim

إِنَّكَ

Indeed You

innaka

أَنتَ

You (are)

anta

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

١٢٩

Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might,1 the Wise."

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And who

waman

يَرْغَبُ

will turn away

yarghabu

عَن

from

ʿan

مِّلَّةِ

(the) religion

millati

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ

(of) Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَن

who

man

سَفِهَ

fooled

safiha

نَفْسَهُۥ ۚ

himself

nafsahu

وَلَقَدِ

And indeed

walaqadi

ٱصْطَفَيْنَـٰهُ

We chose him

iṣ'ṭafaynāhu

فِى

in

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ

the world

l-dun'yā

وَإِنَّهُۥ

and indeed he

wa-innahu

فِى

in

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

لَمِنَ

surely (will be) among

lamina

ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

the righteous

l-ṣāliḥīna

١٣٠

And who would be averse to the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself. And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

لَهُۥ

رَبُّهُۥٓ

his Lord

rabbuhu

أَسْلِمْ ۖ

Submit (yourself)

aslim

قَالَ

he said

qāla

أَسْلَمْتُ

I (have) submitted (myself)

aslamtu

لِرَبِّ

to (the) Lord

lirabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

١٣١

When his Lord said to him, "Submit," he said, "I have submitted [in Islām]1 to the Lord of the worlds."

— Saheeh International

وَوَصَّىٰ

And enjoined

wawaṣṣā

بِهَآ

[it]

bihā

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīmu

بَنِيهِ

(upon) his sons

banīhi

وَيَعْقُوبُ

and Yaqub

wayaʿqūbu

يَـٰبَنِىَّ

O my sons

yābaniyya

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

ٱصْطَفَىٰ

has chosen

iṣ'ṭafā

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلدِّينَ

the religion

l-dīna

فَلَا

so not

falā

تَمُوتُنَّ

(should) you die

tamūtunna

إِلَّا

except

illā

وَأَنتُم

while you

wa-antum

مُّسْلِمُونَ

(are) submissive

mus'limūna

١٣٢

And Abraham instructed his sons [to do the same] and [so did] Jacob, [saying], "O my sons, indeed Allāh has chosen for you this religion, so do not die except while you are Muslims."

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

كُنتُمْ

were you

kuntum

شُهَدَآءَ

witnesses

shuhadāa

إِذْ

when

idh

حَضَرَ

came to

ḥaḍara

يَعْقُوبَ

Yaqub

yaʿqūba

ٱلْمَوْتُ

[the] death

l-mawtu

إِذْ

when

idh

قَالَ

he said

qāla

لِبَنِيهِ

to his sons

libanīhi

مَا

What

تَعْبُدُونَ

will you worship

taʿbudūna

مِنۢ

from

min

بَعْدِى

after me

baʿdī

قَالُوا۟

They said

qālū

نَعْبُدُ

We will worship

naʿbudu

إِلَـٰهَكَ

your God

ilāhaka

وَإِلَـٰهَ

and (the) God

wa-ilāha

ءَابَآئِكَ

(of) your forefathers

ābāika

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ

and Ishmael

wa-is'māʿīla

وَإِسْحَـٰقَ

and Isaac

wa-is'ḥāqa

إِلَـٰهًۭا

God

ilāhan

وَٰحِدًۭا

One

wāḥidan

وَنَحْنُ

And we

wanaḥnu

لَهُۥ

to Him

lahu

مُسْلِمُونَ

(are) submissive

mus'limūna

١٣٣

Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac - one God.1 And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him."

— Saheeh International

تِلْكَ

This

til'ka

أُمَّةٌۭ

(was) a community

ummatun

قَدْ

(which)

qad

خَلَتْ ۖ

has passed away

khalat

لَهَا

for it

lahā

مَا

what

كَسَبَتْ

it earned

kasabat

وَلَكُم

and for you

walakum

مَّا

what

كَسَبْتُمْ ۖ

you have earned

kasabtum

وَلَا

And not

walā

تُسْـَٔلُونَ

you will be asked

tus'alūna

عَمَّا

about what

ʿammā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَعْمَلُونَ

do

yaʿmalūna

١٣٤

That was a nation which has passed on. It will have [the consequence of] what it earned, and you will have what you have earned. And you will not be asked about what they used to do.

— Saheeh International
