وَلَن

And never

walan

تَرْضَىٰ

will be pleased

tarḍā

عَنكَ

with you

ʿanka

ٱلْيَهُودُ

the Jews

l-yahūdu

وَلَا

and [not]

walā

ٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ

the Christians

l-naṣārā

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

تَتَّبِعَ

you follow

tattabiʿa

مِلَّتَهُمْ ۗ

their religion

millatahum

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هُدَى

(the) Guidance

hudā

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

هُوَ

it

huwa

ٱلْهُدَىٰ ۗ

(is) the Guidance

l-hudā

وَلَئِنِ

And if

wala-ini

ٱتَّبَعْتَ

you follow

ittabaʿta

أَهْوَآءَهُم

their desires

ahwāahum

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

ٱلَّذِى

what

alladhī

جَآءَكَ

has come to you

jāaka

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْعِلْمِ ۙ

the knowledge

l-ʿil'mi

مَا

not

لَكَ

for you

laka

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

مِن

any

min

وَلِىٍّۢ

protector

waliyyin

وَلَا

and not

walā

نَصِيرٍ

any helper

naṣīrin

١٢٠

And never will the Jews and the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion. Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allāh is the [only] guidance." If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allāh no protector or helper.

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those

alladhīna

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ

We have given them

ātaynāhumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

يَتْلُونَهُۥ

recite it

yatlūnahu

حَقَّ

(as it has the) right

ḥaqqa

تِلَاوَتِهِۦٓ

(of) its recitation

tilāwatihi

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those (people)

ulāika

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

بِهِۦ ۗ

in it

bihi

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يَكْفُرْ

disbelieves

yakfur

بِهِۦ

in it

bihi

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

هُمُ

they

humu

ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ

(are) the losers

l-khāsirūna

١٢١

Those to whom We have given the Book recite it with its true recital.1 They [are the ones who] believe in it. And whoever disbelieves in it - it is they who are the losers.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰبَنِىٓ

O Children

yābanī

إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

(of) Israel

is'rāīla

ٱذْكُرُوا۟

Remember

udh'kurū

نِعْمَتِىَ

My Favor

niʿ'matiya

ٱلَّتِىٓ

which

allatī

أَنْعَمْتُ

I bestowed

anʿamtu

عَلَيْكُمْ

upon you

ʿalaykum

وَأَنِّى

and that I

wa-annī

فَضَّلْتُكُمْ

[I] preferred you

faḍḍaltukum

عَلَى

over

ʿalā

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

١٢٢

O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and that I preferred you over the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَٱتَّقُوا۟

And fear

wa-ittaqū

يَوْمًۭا

a day

yawman

لَّا

not

تَجْزِى

will avail

tajzī

نَفْسٌ

a soul

nafsun

عَن

(of)

ʿan

نَّفْسٍۢ

(another) soul

nafsin

شَيْـًۭٔا

anything

shayan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يُقْبَلُ

will be accepted

yuq'balu

مِنْهَا

from it

min'hā

عَدْلٌۭ

any compensation

ʿadlun

وَلَا

and not

walā

تَنفَعُهَا

will benefit it

tanfaʿuhā

شَفَـٰعَةٌۭ

any intercession

shafāʿatun

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يُنصَرُونَ

will be helped

yunṣarūna

١٢٣

And fear a Day when no soul will suffice for another soul1 at all, and no compensation will be accepted from it, nor will any intercession benefit it, nor will they be aided.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَإِذِ

And when

wa-idhi

ٱبْتَلَىٰٓ

tried

ib'talā

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

رَبُّهُۥ

his Lord

rabbuhu

بِكَلِمَـٰتٍۢ

with words

bikalimātin

فَأَتَمَّهُنَّ ۖ

and he fulfilled them

fa-atammahunna

قَالَ

He said

qāla

إِنِّى

Indeed I

innī

جَاعِلُكَ

(am) the One to make you

jāʿiluka

لِلنَّاسِ

for the mankind

lilnnāsi

إِمَامًۭا ۖ

a leader

imāman

قَالَ

He said

qāla

وَمِن

And from

wamin

ذُرِّيَّتِى ۖ

my offspring

dhurriyyatī

قَالَ

He said

qāla

لَا

(Does) not

يَنَالُ

reach

yanālu

عَهْدِى

My Covenant

ʿahdī

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

(to) the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

١٢٤

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham was tried by his Lord with words [i.e., commands] and he fulfilled them. [Allāh] said, "Indeed, I will make you a leader for the people." [Abraham] said, "And of my descendants?" [Allāh] said, "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers."

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

جَعَلْنَا

We made

jaʿalnā

ٱلْبَيْتَ

the House

l-bayta

مَثَابَةًۭ

a place of return

mathābatan

لِّلنَّاسِ

for mankind

lilnnāsi

وَأَمْنًۭا

and (a place of) security

wa-amnan

وَٱتَّخِذُوا۟

and (said), "Take

wa-ittakhidhū

مِن

[from]

min

مَّقَامِ

(the) standing place

maqāmi

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ

(of) Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

مُصَلًّۭى ۖ

(as) a place of prayer

muṣallan

وَعَهِدْنَآ

And We made a covenant

waʿahid'nā

إِلَىٰٓ

with

ilā

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمَ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīma

وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ

and Ishmael

wa-is'māʿīla

أَن

[that]

an

طَهِّرَا

[You both] purify

ṭahhirā

بَيْتِىَ

My House

baytiya

لِلطَّآئِفِينَ

for those who circumambulate

lilṭṭāifīna

وَٱلْعَـٰكِفِينَ

and those who seclude themselves for devotion and prayer

wal-ʿākifīna

وَٱلرُّكَّعِ

and those who bow down

wal-rukaʿi

ٱلسُّجُودِ

and those who prostrate

l-sujūdi

١٢٥

And [mention] when We made the House [i.e., the Kaʿbah] a place of return for the people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], "Purify My House for those who perform ṭawāf1 and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer]."

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

قَالَ

said

qāla

إِبْرَٰهِـۧمُ

Ibrahim

ib'rāhīmu

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱجْعَلْ

make

ij'ʿal

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

بَلَدًا

a city

baladan

ءَامِنًۭا

secure

āminan

وَٱرْزُقْ

and provide

wa-ur'zuq

أَهْلَهُۥ

its people

ahlahu

مِنَ

with

mina

ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ

fruits

l-thamarāti

مَنْ

(to) whoever

man

ءَامَنَ

believed

āmana

مِنْهُم

from them

min'hum

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَٱلْيَوْمِ

and the Day

wal-yawmi

ٱلْـَٔاخِرِ ۖ

the Last

l-ākhiri

قَالَ

He said

qāla

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

كَفَرَ

disbelieved

kafara

فَأُمَتِّعُهُۥ

[then] I will grant him enjoyment

fa-umattiʿuhu

قَلِيلًۭا

a little

qalīlan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

أَضْطَرُّهُۥٓ

I will force him

aḍṭarruhu

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

ٱلنَّارِ ۖ

(of) the Fire

l-nāri

وَبِئْسَ

and evil

wabi'sa

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

(is) the destination

l-maṣīru

١٢٦

And [mention] when Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits - whoever of them believes in Allāh and the Last Day." [Allāh] said, "And whoever disbelieves - I will grant him enjoyment for a little; then I will force him to the punishment of the Fire, and wretched is the destination."
