فَإِذَا But when fa-idhā came to them jāathumu the good l-ḥasanatu they said qālū For us lanā (is) this hādhihi And if wa-in afflicts them tuṣib'hum bad sayyi-atun they ascribe evil omens yaṭṭayyarū to Musa bimūsā and who waman (were) with him maʿahu Behold alā Only innamā their evil omens ṭāiruhum (are) with ʿinda Allah l-lahi but walākinna most of them aktharahum (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
But when good [i.e., provision] came to them, they said, "This is ours [by right]." And if a bad [condition] struck them, they saw an evil omen in Moses and those with him. Unquestionably, their fortune is with Allāh, but most of them do not know.
وَقَالُوا۟ And they said waqālū Whatever mahmā you bring us tatinā therewith bihi of min (the) sign āyatin so that you bewitch us litasḥaranā with it bihā then not famā we naḥnu (will be) in you laka believers bimu'minīna
And they said, "No matter what sign you bring us with which to bewitch us, we will not be believers in you."
فَأَرْسَلْنَا So We sent fa-arsalnā on them ʿalayhimu the flood l-ṭūfāna and the locusts wal-jarāda and the lice wal-qumala and the frogs wal-ḍafādiʿa and the blood wal-dama (as) signs āyātin manifest mufaṣṣalātin but they showed arrogance fa-is'takbarū and they were wakānū a people qawman criminal muj'rimīna
So We sent upon them the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.
وَلَمَّا And when walammā fell waqaʿa on them ʿalayhimu the punishment l-rij'zu they said qālū O Musa yāmūsā Invoke ud'ʿu for us lanā your Lord rabbaka by what bimā He has promised ʿahida to you ʿindaka If la-in you remove kashafta from us ʿannā the punishment l-rij'za surely, we will believe lanu'minanna [for] you laka and surely, we will send walanur'silanna with you maʿaka (the) Children banī (of) Israel is'rāīla
And when the punishment descended upon them, they said, "O Moses, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. If you [can] remove the punishment from us, we will surely believe you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel."
فَلَمَّا But when falammā We removed kashafnā from them ʿanhumu the punishment l-rij'za till ilā a (fixed) term ajalin (which) they hum were to reach [it] bālighūhu then idhā they hum broke (the word) yankuthūna
But when We removed the punishment from them until a term which they were to reach,1 then at once they broke their word.
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا So We took retribution fa-intaqamnā from them min'hum and We drowned them fa-aghraqnāhum in fī the sea l-yami because they bi-annahum denied kadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā and they were wakānū to them ʿanhā heedless ghāfilīna
So We took retribution from them, and We drowned them in the sea because they denied Our signs and were heedless of them.
وَأَوْرَثْنَا And We made inheritors wa-awrathnā the people l-qawma those who alladhīna were kānū considered weak yus'taḍʿafūna (the) eastern (parts) mashāriqa (of) the land l-arḍi and the western (parts) of it wamaghāribahā which allatī We blessed bāraknā [in it] fīhā And was fulfilled watammat (the) word kalimatu (of) your Lord rabbika the best l-ḥus'nā for ʿalā (the) Children banī (of) Israel is'rāīla because bimā they were patient ṣabarū And We destroyed wadammarnā what mā used to kāna make yaṣnaʿu Firaun fir'ʿawnu and his people waqawmuhu and what wamā they used to kānū erect yaʿrishūna
And We caused the people who had been oppressed to inherit the eastern regions of the land and the western ones, which We had blessed. And the good word [i.e., decree] of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of what they had patiently endured. And We destroyed [all] that Pharaoh and his people were producing and what they had been building.
