فَإِن But if fa-in they deny you kadhabūka then say faqul Your Lord rabbukum (is the) Possessor dhū (of) Mercy raḥmatin Vast wāsiʿatin but not walā will be turned back yuraddu His wrath basuhu from ʿani the people l-qawmi (who are) criminals l-muj'rimīna
So if they deny you, [O Muḥammad], say, "Your Lord is the possessor of vast mercy; but His punishment cannot be repelled from the people who are criminals."
سَيَقُولُ Will say sayaqūlu those who alladhīna associate partners (with Allah) ashrakū If law Had willed shāa Allah l-lahu not mā we (would) have associated partners (with Allah) ashraknā and not walā our forefathers ābāunā and not walā we (would) have forbidden ḥarramnā [of] min anything shayin Likewise kadhālika denied kadhaba those who alladhīna (were from) min before them qablihim until ḥattā they tasted dhāqū Our wrath basanā Say qul Is hal with you ʿindakum [of] min any knowledge ʿil'min then produce it fatukh'rijūhu for us lanā Not in you follow tattabiʿūna except illā the assumption l-ẓana and not wa-in you (do) antum but illā guess takhruṣūna
Those who associated [others] with Allāh will say, "If Allāh had willed, we would not have associated [anything] and neither would our fathers, nor would we have prohibited anything." Likewise did those before deny until they tasted Our punishment. Say, "Do you have any knowledge that you can produce for us? You follow not except assumption, and you are not but misjudging."
قُلْ Say qul With Allah falillahi (is) the argument l-ḥujatu the conclusive l-bālighatu And if falaw He (had) willed shāa surely He (would) have guided you lahadākum all ajmaʿīna
Say, "With Allāh is the far-reaching [i.e., conclusive] argument. If He had willed, He would have guided you all."
قُلْ Say qul Bring forward halumma your witnesses shuhadāakumu those who alladhīna testify yashhadūna that anna Allah l-laha prohibited ḥarrama this hādhā Then if fa-in they testify shahidū then (do) not falā testify tashhad with them maʿahum And (do) not walā follow tattabiʿ (the) desires ahwāa (of) those who alladhīna denied kadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā and those who wa-alladhīna (do) not lā believe yu'minūna in the Hereafter bil-ākhirati while they wahum with their Lord birabbihim set up equals yaʿdilūna
Say, [O Muḥammad], "Bring forward your witnesses who will testify that Allāh has prohibited this." And if they testify, do not testify with them. And do not follow the desires of those who deny Our verses and those who do not believe in the Hereafter, while they equate [others] with their Lord.
۞ قُلْ Say qul Come taʿālaw I will recite atlu what mā has prohibited ḥarrama your Lord rabbukum to you ʿalaykum That (do) not allā associate tush'rikū with Him bihi anything shayan and with the parents wabil-wālidayni (be) good iḥ'sānan and (do) not walā kill taqtulū your children awlādakum (out) of min poverty im'lāqin We naḥnu provide for you narzuqukum and for them wa-iyyāhum And (do) not walā go near taqrabū [the] immoralities l-fawāḥisha what mā (is) apparent ẓahara of them min'hā and what wamā (is) concealed baṭana And (do) not walā kill taqtulū the soul l-nafsa which allatī has (been) forbidden ḥarrama (by) Allah l-lahu except illā by (legal) right bil-ḥaqi That dhālikum (He) has enjoined on you waṣṣākum with it bihi so that you may laʿallakum use reason taʿqilūna
Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, and do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. And do not approach immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allāh has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason."
