ذَٰلِكُمُ That dhālikumu (is) Allah l-lahu your Lord rabbukum (there is) no lā god ilāha except illā Him huwa (the) Creator khāliqu (of) every kulli thing shayin so worship Him fa-uʿ'budūhu And He wahuwa (is) on ʿalā every kulli thing shayin a Guardian wakīlun
That is Allāh, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.
لَّا Not (can) lā grasp Him tud'rikuhu the visions l-abṣāru but He wahuwa (can) grasp yud'riku (all) the vision l-abṣāra and He (is) wahuwa the All-Subtle l-laṭīfu the All-Aware l-khabīru
Vision perceives Him not,1 but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle,2 the Aware.3
قَدْ Verily qad has come to you jāakum enlightenment baṣāiru from min your Lord rabbikum Then whoever faman sees abṣara then (it is) for his soul falinafsihi and whoever waman (is) blind ʿamiya then (it is) against himself faʿalayhā And not wamā (am) I anā over you ʿalaykum a guardian biḥafīẓin
There has come to you enlightenment from your Lord. So whoever will see does so for [the benefit of] his soul, and whoever is blind [does harm] against it. And [say], "I am not a guardian over you."1
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika We explain nuṣarrifu the Signs l-āyāti that they (may) say waliyaqūlū You have studied darasta and that We (may) make it clear walinubayyinahu for a people liqawmin who know yaʿlamūna
And thus do We diversify the verses so they [i.e., the disbelievers] will say, "You have studied,"1 and so We may make it [i.e., the Qur’ān] clear for a people who know.
ٱتَّبِعْ Follow ittabiʿ what mā has been inspired ūḥiya to you ilayka from min your Lord rabbika (there is) no lā god ilāha except illā Him huwa and turn away wa-aʿriḍ from ʿani the polytheists l-mush'rikīna
Follow, [O Muḥammad], what has been revealed to you from your Lord - there is no deity except Him - and turn away from those who associate others with Allāh.
وَلَوْ And if walaw (had) willed shāa Allah l-lahu not (they would have) mā associated partners (with Him) ashrakū And not wamā We have made you jaʿalnāka over them ʿalayhim a guardian ḥafīẓan and not wamā you anta (are) over them ʿalayhim a manager biwakīlin
But if Allāh had willed, they would not have associated. And We have not appointed you over them as a guardian, nor are you a manager over them.1
وَلَا And (do) not walā insult tasubbū those whom alladhīna they invoke yadʿūna from min other than dūni Allah l-lahi lest they insult fayasubbū Allah l-laha (in) enmity ʿadwan without bighayri knowledge ʿil'min Thus kadhālika We have made fair-seeming zayyannā to every likulli community ummatin their deed ʿamalahum Then thumma to ilā their Lord rabbihim (is) their return marjiʿuhum then He will inform them fayunabbi-uhum about what bimā they used to kānū do yaʿmalūna
And do not insult those they invoke other than Allāh, lest they insult Allāh in enmity without knowledge. Thus We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.
وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ And they swear wa-aqsamū by Allah bil-lahi strongest jahda (of) their oaths aymānihim that if la-in came to them jāathum a sign āyatun they would surely believe layu'minunna in it bihā Say qul Only innamā the signs l-āyātu (are) with ʿinda Allah l-lahi And what wamā will make you perceive yush'ʿirukum that [it] annahā when idhā it comes jāat not lā they will believe yu'minūna
And they swear by Allāh their strongest oaths that if a sign came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, "The signs are only with [i.e., from] Allāh." And what will make you perceive that even if it [i.e., a sign] came, they would not believe.
وَنُقَلِّبُ And We will turn wanuqallibu their hearts afidatahum and their sights wa-abṣārahum (just) as kamā not lam they believe yu'minū in it bihi (the) first awwala time marratin And We will leave them wanadharuhum in fī their transgression ṭugh'yānihim wandering blindly yaʿmahūna
And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it [i.e., the revelation] the first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly.
