وَقَالَتِ And said waqālati the Jews l-yahūdu and the Christians wal-naṣārā We (are) naḥnu (the) children abnāu (of) Allah l-lahi and His beloved wa-aḥibbāuhu Say qul Then why falima (does He) punish you yuʿadhibukum for your sins bidhunūbikum Nay bal you (are) antum human beings basharun from among (those) mimman He created khalaqa He forgives yaghfiru [for] whom liman He wills yashāu and punishes wayuʿadhibu whom man He wills yashāu And for Allah walillahi (is the) dominion mul'ku (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and whatever wamā (is) between them baynahumā and to Him wa-ilayhi (is) the final return l-maṣīru
But the Jews and the Christians say, "We are the children of Allāh and His beloved." Say, "Then why does He punish you for your sins?" Rather, you are human beings from among those He has created. He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills. And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and to Him is the [final] destination.
يَـٰٓأَهْلَ O People yāahla (of) the Book l-kitābi Surely qad has come to you jāakum Our Messenger rasūlunā he makes clear yubayyinu to you lakum [on] ʿalā (after) an interval (of cessation) fatratin of mina the Messengers l-rusuli lest an you say taqūlū Not mā (has) come to us jāanā any min bearer of glad tidings bashīrin and not walā a warner nadhīrin But surely faqad has come to you jāakum a bearer of glad tidings bashīrun and a warner wanadhīrun And Allah wal-lahu (is) on ʿalā every kulli thing shayin All-Powerful qadīrun
O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger to make clear to you [the religion] after a period [of suspension] of messengers, lest you say, "There came not to us any bringer of good tidings or a warner." But there has come to you a bringer of good tidings and a warner. And Allāh is over all things competent.
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh said qāla Musa mūsā to his people liqawmihi O my people yāqawmi remember udh'kurū (the) Favor niʿ'mata (of) Allah l-lahi upon you ʿalaykum when idh He placed jaʿala among you fīkum Prophets anbiyāa and made you wajaʿalakum kings mulūkan and He gave you waātākum what mā not lam He (had) given yu'ti (to) anyone aḥadan from mina the worlds l-ʿālamīna
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Moses said to his people, "O my people, remember the favor of Allāh upon you when He appointed among you prophets and made you possessors1 and gave you that which He had not given anyone among the worlds.
يَـٰقَوْمِ O my people yāqawmi Enter ud'khulū the land l-arḍa the Holy l-muqadasata which allatī (has been) ordained kataba (by) Allah l-lahu for you lakum and (do) not walā turn tartaddū on ʿalā your backs adbārikum then you will turn back fatanqalibū (as) losers khāsirīna
O my people, enter the blessed land [i.e., Palestine] which Allāh has assigned to you and do not turn back [from fighting in Allāh's cause] and [thus] become losers."
قَالُوا۟ They said qālū O Musa yāmūsā Indeed inna in it fīhā (are) people qawman (of) tyrannical strength jabbārīna and indeed, we wa-innā never lan will enter it nadkhulahā until ḥattā they leave yakhrujū from it min'hā and if fa-in they leave yakhrujū [from] it min'hā then certainly we (will) fa-innā enter (it) dākhilūna
They said, "O Moses, indeed within it is a people of tyrannical strength, and indeed, we will never enter it until they leave it; but if they leave it, then we will enter."
قَالَ Said qāla two men rajulāni from mina those who alladhīna feared (Allah) yakhāfūna (had) favored anʿama Allah l-lahu [on] both of them ʿalayhimā Enter ud'khulū upon them ʿalayhimu (through) the gate l-bāba then when fa-idhā you have entered it dakhaltumūhu then indeed, you (will be) fa-innakum victorious ghālibūna And upon waʿalā Allah l-lahi then put your trust fatawakkalū if in you are kuntum believers mu'minīna
Said two men from those who feared [to disobey] upon whom Allāh had bestowed favor, "Enter upon them through the gate, for when you have entered it, you will be predominant.1 And upon Allāh rely, if you should be believers."
