وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna disbelieve kafarū and deny wakadhabū Our Signs biāyātinā those ulāika (are the) companions aṣḥābu (of) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
But those who disbelieve and deny Our signs - those are the companions of Hellfire.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you yāayyuhā who alladhīna believe āmanū Remember udh'kurū (the) Favor niʿ'mata (of) Allah l-lahi upon you ʿalaykum when idh determined hamma a people qawmun that an they stretch yabsuṭū towards you ilaykum their hands aydiyahum but He restrained fakaffa their hands aydiyahum from you ʿankum And fear wa-ittaqū Allah l-laha And upon waʿalā Allah l-lahi so let put the trust falyatawakkali the believers l-mu'minūna
O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allāh upon you when a people determined to extend their hands [in aggression] against you, but He withheld their hands from you; and fear Allāh. And upon Allāh let the believers rely.
۞ وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad took akhadha Allah l-lahu a Covenant mīthāqa (from the) Children banī (of) Israel is'rāīla and We appointed wabaʿathnā among them min'humu two ith'nay (and) ten ʿashara leaders naqīban And said waqāla Allah l-lahu Indeed, I (am) innī with you maʿakum if la-in you establish aqamtumu the prayer l-ṣalata and give waātaytumu the zakah l-zakata and you believe waāmantum in My Messengers birusulī and you assist them waʿazzartumūhum and you loan wa-aqraḍtumu (to) Allah l-laha a loan qarḍan goodly ḥasanan surely I will remove la-ukaffiranna from you ʿankum your evil deeds sayyiātikum and I will surely admit you wala-ud'khilannakum (to) gardens jannātin flow tajrī from min underneath them taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru But whoever faman disbelieved kafara after baʿda that dhālika among you minkum then certainly faqad he strayed ḍalla (from) the way sawāa the right l-sabīli
And Allāh had already taken a covenant from the Children of Israel, and We delegated from among them twelve leaders. And Allāh said, "I am with you. If you establish prayer and give zakāh and believe in My messengers and support them and loan Allāh a goodly loan,1 I will surely remove from you your misdeeds and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow. But whoever of you disbelieves after that has certainly strayed from the soundness of the way."
فَبِمَا So for fabimā their breaking naqḍihim (of) their covenant mīthāqahum We cursed them laʿannāhum and We made wajaʿalnā their hearts qulūbahum hard qāsiyatan They distort yuḥarrifūna the words l-kalima from ʿan their places mawāḍiʿihi and forgot wanasū a part ḥaẓẓan of what mimmā they were reminded dhukkirū of [it] bihi And not walā will you cease tazālu to discover taṭṭaliʿu of ʿalā treachery khāinatin from them min'hum except illā a few qalīlan of them min'hum But forgive fa-uʿ'fu them ʿanhum and overlook wa-iṣ'faḥ Indeed inna Allah l-laha loves yuḥibbu the good-doers l-muḥ'sinīna
So for their breaking of the covenant We cursed them and made their hearts hardened. They distort words from their [proper] places [i.e., usages] and have forgotten a portion of that of which they were reminded.1 And you will still observe deceit among them, except a few of them. But pardon them and overlook [their misdeeds]. Indeed, Allāh loves the doers of good.
