وَمِنَ And of wamina the night al-layli prostrate fa-us'jud to Him lahu and glorify Him wasabbiḥ'hu a night laylan long ṭawīlan
And during the night prostrate to Him and exalt [i.e., praise] Him a long [part of the] night.
إِنَّ Indeed inna these hāulāi love yuḥibbūna the immediate l-ʿājilata and leave wayadharūna behind them warāahum a Day yawman grave thaqīlan
Indeed, these [disbelievers] love the immediate and leave behind them1 a grave Day.
نَّحْنُ We naḥnu created them khalaqnāhum and We strengthened washadadnā their forms asrahum and when wa-idhā We will shi'nā We can change baddalnā their likeness[es] amthālahum (with) a change tabdīlan
We have created them and strengthened their forms, and when We will, We can change their likenesses with [complete] alteration.
إِنَّ Indeed inna this hādhihi (is) a reminder tadhkiratun so whoever faman wills shāa let him take ittakhadha to ilā his Lord rabbihi a way sabīlan
Indeed, this is a reminder, so he who wills may take to his Lord a way.
وَمَا And not wamā you will tashāūna except illā that an wills yashāa Allah l-lahu Indeed inna Allah l-laha is kāna All-Knower ʿalīman All-Wise ḥakīman
And you do not will except that Allāh wills. Indeed, Allāh is ever Knowing and Wise.
يُدْخِلُ He admits yud'khilu whom man He wills yashāu into fī His mercy raḥmatihi but (for) the wrongdoers wal-ẓālimīna He has prepared aʿadda for them lahum a punishment ʿadhāban painful alīman
He admits whom He wills into His mercy; but the wrongdoers - He has prepared for them a painful punishment.
Al-Mursalāt
The Emissaries
﷽
المرسلات
وَٱلْمُرْسَلَـٰتِ By the ones sent forth wal-mur'salāti one after another ʿur'fan
By those [winds] sent forth in gusts
فَٱلْعَـٰصِفَـٰتِ And the winds that blow fal-ʿāṣifāti violently ʿaṣfan
And the winds that blow violently
وَٱلنَّـٰشِرَٰتِ And the ones that scatter wal-nāshirāti far and wide nashran
And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]
فَٱلْفَـٰرِقَـٰتِ And those who separate fal-fāriqāti (by the) Criterion farqan
And those [angels] who bring criterion1
فَٱلْمُلْقِيَـٰتِ And those who bring down fal-mul'qiyāti (the) Reminder dhik'ran
And those [angels] who deliver a message.
عُذْرًا (As) justification ʿudh'ran or aw warning nudh'ran
As justification or warning,
إِنَّمَا Indeed, what innamā you are promised tūʿadūna will surely occur lawāqiʿun
Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.
فَإِذَا So when fa-idhā the stars l-nujūmu are obliterated ṭumisat
So when the stars are obliterated
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the heaven l-samāu is cleft asunder furijat
And when the heaven is opened
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the mountains l-jibālu are blown away nusifat
And when the mountains are blown away
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the Messengers l-rusulu are gathered to their appointed time uqqitat
And when the messengers' time has come...1
لِأَىِّ For what li-ayyi Day yawmin are (these) postponed ujjilat
For what Day was it postponed?1
وَمَآ And what wamā will make you know adrāka what mā (is the) Day yawmu (of) the Judgment l-faṣli
And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?
وَيْلٌۭ Woe waylun that Day yawma-idhin to the deniers lil'mukadhibīna
Woe,1 that Day, to the deniers.
أَلَمْ Did not alam We destroy nuh'liki the former (people) l-awalīna
Did We not destroy the former peoples?
ثُمَّ Then thumma We follow them up nut'biʿuhumu (with) the later ones l-ākhirīna
Then We will follow them with the later ones.
كَذَٰلِكَ Thus kadhālika We deal nafʿalu with the criminals bil-muj'rimīna
Thus do We deal with the criminals.
وَيْلٌۭ Woe waylun that Day yawma-idhin to the deniers lil'mukadhibīna
Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
