Say, [O Muḥammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur’ān [i.e., recitation].
يَهْدِىٓ It guides yahdī to ilā the right way l-rush'di so we believe faāmannā in it bihi and never walan we will associate nush'rika with our Lord birabbinā anyone aḥadan
It guides to the right course, and we have believed in it. And we will never associate with our Lord anyone.
وَأَنَّهُۥ And that He wa-annahu Exalted is taʿālā (the) Majesty jaddu (of) our Lord rabbinā not mā He has taken ittakhadha a wife ṣāḥibatan and not walā a son waladan
And [it teaches] that exalted is the nobleness of our Lord; He has not taken a wife or a son
وَأَنَّهُۥ And that he wa-annahu used to kāna speak yaqūlu the foolish among us safīhunā against ʿalā Allah l-lahi an excessive transgression shaṭaṭan
And that our foolish one [i.e., Iblees]1 has been saying about Allāh an excessive transgression.
وَأَنَّا And that we wa-annā thought ẓanannā that an never lan will say taqūla the men l-insu and the jinn wal-jinu against ʿalā Allah l-lahi any lie kadhiban
And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allāh a lie.
وَأَنَّهُۥ And that wa-annahu (there) were kāna men rijālun among mina mankind l-insi who sought refuge yaʿūdhūna in (the) men birijālin from mina the jinn l-jini so they increased them fazādūhum (in) burden rahaqan
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden [i.e., sin].
وَأَنَّهُمْ And that they wa-annahum thought ẓannū as kamā you thought ẓanantum that an never lan will raise yabʿatha Allah l-lahu anyone aḥadan
And they had thought, as you thought, that Allāh would never send anyone [as a messenger].
وَأَنَّا And that we wa-annā sought to touch lamasnā the heaven l-samāa but we found it fawajadnāhā filled (with) muli-at guards ḥarasan severe shadīdan and flaming fires washuhuban
And we have sought [to reach] the heaven but found it filled with powerful guards and burning flames.
وَأَنَّا And that we wa-annā used to kunnā sit naqʿudu there in min'hā positions maqāʿida for hearing lilssamʿi but (he) who faman listens yastamiʿi now l-āna will find yajid for him lahu a flaming fire shihāban waiting raṣadan
And we used to sit therein in positions for hearing,1 but whoever listens now will find a burning flame lying in wait for him.
وَأَنَّا And that we wa-annā not lā we know nadrī whether evil asharrun is intended urīda for (those) who biman (are) in fī the earth l-arḍi or am intends arāda for them bihim their Lord rabbuhum a right path rashadan
And we do not know [therefore] whether evil is intended for those on earth or whether their Lord intends for them a right course.
وَأَنَّا And that [we] wa-annā among us minnā (are) the righteous l-ṣāliḥūna and among us waminnā (are) other than dūna that dhālika We kunnā (are on) ways ṭarāiqa different qidadan
And among us are the righteous, and among us are [others] not so; we were [of] divided ways.1
وَأَنَّا And that we wa-annā [we] have become certain ẓanannā that an never lan we will cause failure nuʿ'jiza (to) Allah l-laha in fī the earth l-arḍi and never walan we can escape Him nuʿ'jizahu (by) flight haraban
And we have become certain that we will never cause failure to Allāh upon earth, nor can we escape Him by flight.
وَأَنَّا And that [we] wa-annā when lammā we heard samiʿ'nā the Guidance l-hudā we believed āmannā in it bihi And whoever faman believes yu'min in his Lord birabbihi then not falā he will fear yakhāfu any loss bakhsan and not walā any burden rahaqan
And when we heard the guidance [i.e., the Qur’ān], we believed in it. And whoever believes in his Lord will not fear deprivation or burden.1
