وَمِنْ

And among

wamin

ءَايَـٰتِهِ

His Signs

āyātihi

ٱلْجَوَارِ

(are) the ships

l-jawāri

فِى

in

ٱلْبَحْرِ

the sea

l-baḥri

كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِ

like [the] mountains

kal-aʿlāmi

٣٢

And of His signs are the ships in the sea, like mountains.

— Saheeh International

إِن

If

in

يَشَأْ

He wills

yasha

يُسْكِنِ

He can cause the wind to become still

yus'kini

ٱلرِّيحَ

He can cause the wind to become still

l-rīḥa

فَيَظْلَلْنَ

then they would remain

fayaẓlalna

رَوَاكِدَ

motionless

rawākida

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

ظَهْرِهِۦٓ ۚ

its back

ẓahrihi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّكُلِّ

for everyone

likulli

صَبَّارٍۢ

patient

ṣabbārin

شَكُورٍ

(and) grateful

shakūrin

٣٣

If He willed, He could still the wind, and they would remain motionless on its surface. Indeed in that are signs for everyone patient and grateful.

— Saheeh International

أَوْ

Or

aw

يُوبِقْهُنَّ

He could destroy them

yūbiq'hunna

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَسَبُوا۟

they have earned

kasabū

وَيَعْفُ

but He pardons

wayaʿfu

عَن

[from]

ʿan

كَثِيرٍۢ

much

kathīrin

٣٤

Or He could destroy them1 for what they earned; but He pardons much.

— Saheeh International

وَيَعْلَمَ

And may know

wayaʿlama

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يُجَـٰدِلُونَ

dispute

yujādilūna

فِىٓ

concerning

ءَايَـٰتِنَا

Our Signs

āyātinā

مَا

(that) not

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مِّن

any

min

مَّحِيصٍۢ

place of refuge

maḥīṣin

٣٥

And [that is so] those who dispute concerning Our signs may know that for them there is no place of escape.

— Saheeh International

فَمَآ

So whatever

famā

أُوتِيتُم

you are given

ūtītum

مِّن

of

min

شَىْءٍۢ

a thing

shayin

فَمَتَـٰعُ

(is) but a passing enjoyment

famatāʿu

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

(for) the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَمَا

But what

wamā

عِندَ

(is) with

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) better

khayrun

وَأَبْقَىٰ

and more lasting

wa-abqā

لِلَّذِينَ

for those who

lilladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

وَعَلَىٰ

and upon

waʿalā

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

put (their) trust

yatawakkalūna

٣٦

So whatever thing you have been given - it is but [for] enjoyment of the worldly life. But what is with Allāh is better and more lasting for those who have believed and upon their Lord rely

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

يَجْتَنِبُونَ

avoid

yajtanibūna

كَبَـٰٓئِرَ

(the) greater

kabāira

ٱلْإِثْمِ

sins

l-ith'mi

وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ

and the immoralities

wal-fawāḥisha

وَإِذَا

and when

wa-idhā

مَا

and when

غَضِبُوا۟

they are angry

ghaḍibū

هُمْ

they

hum

يَغْفِرُونَ

forgive

yaghfirūna

٣٧

And those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, and when they are angry, they forgive,

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟

respond

is'tajābū

لِرَبِّهِمْ

to their Lord

lirabbihim

وَأَقَامُوا۟

and establish

wa-aqāmū

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

prayer

l-ṣalata

وَأَمْرُهُمْ

and their affairs

wa-amruhum

شُورَىٰ

(are conducted by) consultation

shūrā

بَيْنَهُمْ

among them

baynahum

وَمِمَّا

and from what

wamimmā

رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ

We have provided them

razaqnāhum

يُنفِقُونَ

they spend

yunfiqūna

٣٨

And those who have responded to their Lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend,

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

إِذَآ

when

idhā

أَصَابَهُمُ

strikes them

aṣābahumu

ٱلْبَغْىُ

tyranny

l-baghyu

هُمْ

they

hum

يَنتَصِرُونَ

defend themselves

yantaṣirūna

٣٩

And those who, when tyranny strikes them, they retaliate [in a just manner].1

— Saheeh International

وَجَزَٰٓؤُا۟

(The) recompense

wajazāu

سَيِّئَةٍۢ

(of) an evil

sayyi-atin

سَيِّئَةٌۭ

(is) an evil

sayyi-atun

مِّثْلُهَا ۖ

like it

mith'luhā

فَمَنْ

But whoever

faman

عَفَا

pardons

ʿafā

وَأَصْلَحَ

and makes reconciliation

wa-aṣlaḥa

فَأَجْرُهُۥ

then his reward

fa-ajruhu

عَلَى

(is) on

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

like

yuḥibbu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٤٠

And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allāh. Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَنِ

And surely whosoever

walamani

ٱنتَصَرَ

defends himself

intaṣara

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

ظُلْمِهِۦ

he has been wronged

ẓul'mihi

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

مَا

not

عَلَيْهِم

(is) against them

ʿalayhim

مِّن

any

min

سَبِيلٍ

way

sabīlin

٤١

And whoever retaliates after having been wronged - those have not upon them any cause [for blame].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

ٱلسَّبِيلُ

the way

l-sabīlu

عَلَى

against

ʿalā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

يَظْلِمُونَ

oppress

yaẓlimūna

ٱلنَّاسَ

the people

l-nāsa

وَيَبْغُونَ

and rebel

wayabghūna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

بِغَيْرِ

without

bighayri

ٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

right

l-ḥaqi

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۭ

painful

alīmun

٤٢

The cause is only against the ones who wrong the people and tyrannize upon the earth without right. Those will have a painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَن

And whoever

walaman

صَبَرَ

(is) patient

ṣabara

وَغَفَرَ

and forgives

waghafara

إِنَّ

indeed

inna

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَمِنْ

(is) surely of

lamin

عَزْمِ

matters of determination

ʿazmi

ٱلْأُمُورِ

matters of determination

l-umūri

٤٣

And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of resolve.1

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُضْلِلِ

Allah lets go astray

yuḍ'lili

ٱللَّهُ

Allah lets go astray

l-lahu

فَمَا

then not

famā

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

مِن

any

min

وَلِىٍّۢ

protector

waliyyin

مِّنۢ

after Him

min

بَعْدِهِۦ ۗ

after Him

baʿdihi

وَتَرَى

And you will see

watarā

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

لَمَّا

when

lammā

رَأَوُا۟

they see

ra-awū

ٱلْعَذَابَ

the punishment

l-ʿadhāba

يَقُولُونَ

saying

yaqūlūna

هَلْ

Is

hal

إِلَىٰ

(there) for

ilā

مَرَدٍّۢ

return

maraddin

مِّن

any

min

سَبِيلٍۢ

way

sabīlin

٤٤

And he whom Allāh sends astray - for him there is no protector beyond Him. And you will see the wrongdoers, when they see the punishment, saying, "Is there for return [to the former world] any way?"

— Saheeh International
