مَا What mā (is) for you lakum (Why) not lā you help one another tanāṣarūna
[They will be asked], "What is [wrong] with you? Why do you not help each other?"
بَلْ Nay bal they humu (on) that Day l-yawma (will) surrender mus'taslimūna
But they, that Day, are in surrender.
وَأَقْبَلَ And will approach wa-aqbala some of them baʿḍuhum to ʿalā others baʿḍin questioning one another yatasāalūna
And they will approach one another asking [i.e., blaming] each other.
قَالُوٓا۟ They will say qālū Indeed, you innakum [you] used (to) kuntum come (to) us tatūnanā from ʿani the right l-yamīni
They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right."1
قَالُوا۟ They will say qālū Nay bal not lam you were takūnū believers mu'minīna
They [i.e., the oppressors] will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers,
وَمَا And not wamā was kāna for us lanā over you ʿalaykum any min authority sul'ṭānin Nay bal you were kuntum a people qawman transgressing ṭāghīna
And we had over you no authority, but you were a transgressing people.
فَحَقَّ So has been proved true faḥaqqa against us ʿalaynā (the) Word qawlu (of) our Lord rabbinā indeed, we innā (will) certainly taste ladhāiqūna
So the word [i.e., decree] of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment].
فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ So we led you astray fa-aghwaynākum indeed, we innā were kunnā astray ghāwīna
And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators."
فَإِنَّهُمْ Then indeed, they fa-innahum that Day yawma-idhin in fī the punishment l-ʿadhābi (will be) sharers mush'tarikūna
So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment.
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā thus kadhālika We deal nafʿalu with the criminals bil-muj'rimīna
Indeed, that is how We deal with the criminals.
إِنَّهُمْ Indeed, they innahum were kānū when idhā it was said qīla to them lahum (There is) no lā god ilāha except illā Allah l-lahu were arrogant yastakbirūna
Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allāh," were arrogant
وَيَقُولُونَ And they say wayaqūlūna Are we a-innā to leave latārikū our gods ālihatinā for a poet lishāʿirin mad majnūnin
And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?"
بَلْ Nay bal he has brought jāa the truth bil-ḥaqi and confirmed waṣaddaqa the Messengers l-mur'salīna
Rather, he [i.e., the Prophet (ﷺ)] has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers.
إِنَّكُمْ Indeed, you innakum (will) surely taste ladhāiqū the punishment l-ʿadhābi painful l-alīmi
Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment,
وَمَا And not wamā you will be recompensed tuj'zawna except illā what mā you used to kuntum do taʿmalūna
And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do -
إِلَّا Except illā (the) slaves ʿibāda (of) Allah l-lahi the chosen ones l-mukh'laṣīna
But not the chosen servants of Allāh.
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ Those ulāika for them lahum (will be) a provision riz'qun determined maʿlūmun
Those will have a provision determined -
فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ Fruits fawākihu and they wahum (will) be honored muk'ramūna
Fruits;1 and they will be honored
فِى In fī Gardens jannāti (of) Delight l-naʿīmi
In gardens of pleasure
عَلَىٰ On ʿalā thrones sururin facing each other mutaqābilīna
On thrones facing one another.
يُطَافُ Will be circulated yuṭāfu among them ʿalayhim a cup bikasin from min a flowing spring maʿīnin
There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring,
بَيْضَآءَ White bayḍāa delicious ladhatin for the drinkers lilshāribīna
White and delicious to the drinkers;
لَا Not lā in it fīhā (is) bad effect ghawlun and not walā they hum from it ʿanhā will be intoxicated yunzafūna
No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated.
وَعِندَهُمْ And with them waʿindahum (will be) companions of modest gaze qāṣirātu (will be) companions of modest gaze l-ṭarfi (having) beautiful eyes ʿīnun
And with them will be women limiting [their] glances,1 with large, [beautiful] eyes,
كَأَنَّهُنَّ As if they were ka-annahunna eggs bayḍun well protected maknūnun
As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected.
فَأَقْبَلَ And (will) approach fa-aqbala some of them baʿḍuhum to ʿalā others baʿḍin questioning one another yatasāalūna
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
قَالَ Will say qāla a speaker qāilun among them min'hum Indeed, I innī had kāna for me lī a companion qarīnun
A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth].
