إِنَّ Indeed inna (the) companions aṣḥāba (of) Paradise l-janati this Day l-yawma [in] fī will be occupied shughulin (in) amusement fākihūna
Indeed the companions of Paradise, that Day, will be amused in [joyful] occupation -
هُمْ They hum and their spouses wa-azwājuhum in fī shades ẓilālin on ʿalā [the] couches l-arāiki reclining muttakiūna
They and their spouses - in shade, reclining on adorned couches.
لَهُمْ For them lahum therein fīhā (are) fruits fākihatun and for them walahum (is) whatever mā they call for yaddaʿūna
For them therein is fruit, and for them is whatever they request [or wish]
سَلَـٰمٌۭ Peace salāmun A word qawlan from min a Lord rabbin Most Merciful raḥīmin
[And] "Peace," a word from a Merciful Lord.
وَٱمْتَـٰزُوا۟ But stand apart wa-im'tāzū today l-yawma O criminals ayyuhā O criminals l-muj'rimūna
[Then He will say], "But stand apart today, you criminals.1
۞ أَلَمْ Did not alam I enjoin aʿhad upon you ilaykum O Children of Adam yābanī O Children of Adam ādama That an (do) not lā worship taʿbudū the Shaitaan l-shayṭāna indeed, he innahu (is) for you lakum an enemy ʿaduwwun clear mubīnun
Did I not enjoin upon you, O children of Adam, that you not worship Satan - [for] indeed, he is to you a clear enemy -
وَأَنِ And that wa-ani you worship Me uʿ'budūnī This hādhā (is) a Path ṣirāṭun Straight mus'taqīmun
And that you worship [only] Me? This is a straight path.
وَلَقَدْ And indeed walaqad he led astray aḍalla from you minkum a multitude jibillan great kathīran Then did not afalam you takūnū use reason taʿqilūna
And he had already led astray from among you much of creation, so did you not use reason?
هَـٰذِهِۦ This (is) hādhihi (the) Hell jahannamu which allatī you were kuntum promised tūʿadūna
This is the Hellfire which you were promised.
ٱصْلَوْهَا Burn therein iṣ'lawhā today l-yawma because bimā you used to kuntum disbelieve takfurūna
[Enter to] burn therein today for what you used to deny."1
ٱلْيَوْمَ This Day al-yawma We will seal nakhtimu [on] ʿalā their mouths afwāhihim and will speak to Us watukallimunā their hands aydīhim and will bear witness watashhadu their feet arjuluhum about what bimā they used to kānū earn yaksibūna
That Day, We will seal over their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will testify about what they used to earn.
وَلَوْ And if walaw We willed nashāu We (would have) surely obliterated laṭamasnā [over] ʿalā their eyes aʿyunihim then they (would) race fa-is'tabaqū (to find) the path l-ṣirāṭa then how fa-annā (could) they see yub'ṣirūna
And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?1
وَلَوْ And if walaw We willed nashāu surely, We (would have) transformed them lamasakhnāhum in ʿalā their places makānatihim then not famā they would have been able is'taṭāʿū to proceed muḍiyyan and not walā return yarjiʿūna
And if We willed, We could have deformed them, [paralyzing them] in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return.1
وَمَن And (he) whom waman We grant him long life nuʿammir'hu We reverse him nunakkis'hu in fī the creation l-khalqi Then will not afalā they use intellect yaʿqilūna
And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation;1 so will they not understand?
وَمَا And not wamā We taught him ʿallamnāhu [the] poetry l-shiʿ'ra and not wamā it is befitting yanbaghī for him lahu Not in it huwa (is) except illā a Reminder dhik'run and a Quran waqur'ānun clear mubīnun
And We did not give him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] knowledge of poetry, nor is it befitting for him. It is not but a message and a clear Qur’ān
لِّيُنذِرَ To warn liyundhira (him) who man is kāna alive ḥayyan and may be proved true wayaḥiqqa the Word l-qawlu against ʿalā the disbelievers l-kāfirīna
To warn whoever is alive1 and justify the word [i.e., decree] against the disbelievers.
