وَلَمَّا And when walammā came jāat Our messengers rusulunā (to) Ibrahim ib'rāhīma with the glad tidings bil-bush'rā they said qālū Indeed, we innā (are) going to destroy muh'likū (the) people ahli (of) this hādhihi town l-qaryati Indeed inna its people ahlahā are kānū wrongdoers ẓālimīna
And when Our messengers [i.e., angels] came to Abraham with the good tidings,1 they said, "Indeed, we will destroy the people of that [i.e., Lot's] city. Indeed, its people have been wrongdoers."
قَالَ He said qāla Indeed inna in it fīhā (is) Lut lūṭan They said qālū We naḥnu know better aʿlamu who biman (is) in it fīhā We will surely save him lanunajjiyannahu and his family wa-ahlahu except illā his wife im'ra-atahu She kānat (is) of mina those who remain behind l-ghābirīna
[Abraham] said, "Indeed, within it is Lot." They said, "We are more knowing of who is within it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She is to be of those who remain behind."
وَلَمَّآ And when walammā [that] an came jāat Our messengers rusulunā (to) Lut lūṭan he was distressed sīa for them bihim and felt straitened waḍāqa for them bihim (and) uneasy dharʿan And they said waqālū (Do) not lā fear takhaf and (do) not walā grieve taḥzan Indeed, we innā (will) save you munajjūka and your family wa-ahlaka except illā your wife im'ra-ataka She kānat (is) of mina those who remain behind l-ghābirīna
And when Our messengers [i.e., angels] came to Lot, he was distressed for them and felt for them great discomfort.1 They said, "Fear not, nor grieve. Indeed, we will save you and your family, except your wife; she is to be of those who remain behind.
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā (will) bring down munzilūna on ʿalā (the) people ahli (of) this hādhihi town l-qaryati a punishment rij'zan from mina (the) sky l-samāi because bimā they have been kānū defiantly disobedient yafsuqūna
Indeed, we will bring down on the people of this city punishment from the sky because they have been defiantly disobedient."
وَلَقَد And verily walaqad We have left taraknā about it min'hā a sign āyatan (as) evidence bayyinatan for a people liqawmin who use reason yaʿqilūna
And We have certainly left of it a sign as clear evidence for a people who use reason.
وَإِلَىٰ And to wa-ilā Madyan madyana their brother akhāhum Shuaib shuʿayban And he said faqāla O my people yāqawmi Worship uʿ'budū Allah l-laha and expect wa-ir'jū the Day l-yawma the Last l-ākhira and (do) not walā commit evil taʿthaw in fī the earth l-arḍi (as) corrupters muf'sidīna
And to Madyan [We sent] their brother Shuʿayb, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh and expect the Last Day and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
فَكَذَّبُوهُ But they denied him fakadhabūhu so seized them fa-akhadhathumu the earthquake l-rajfatu and they became fa-aṣbaḥū in fī their home dārihim fallen prone jāthimīna
But they denied him, so the earthquake seized them, and they became within their home [corpses] fallen prone.
وَعَادًۭا And Aad waʿādan and Thamud wathamūdā and verily waqad (has) become clear tabayyana to you lakum from min their dwellings masākinihim And made fair-seeming wazayyana to them lahumu the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu their deeds aʿmālahum and averted them faṣaddahum from ʿani the Way l-sabīli though they were wakānū endowed with insight mus'tabṣirīna
And [We destroyed] ʿAad and Thamūd, and it has become clear to you from their [ruined] dwellings. And Satan had made pleasing to them their deeds and averted them from the path, and they were endowed with perception.
