وَمِنَ And of wamina the devils l-shayāṭīni (were some) who man would dive yaghūṣūna for him lahu and would do wayaʿmalūna work ʿamalan other than dūna that dhālika And We were wakunnā of them lahum Guardians ḥāfiẓīna
And of the devils [i.e., jinn] were those who dived for him and did work other than that. And We were of them a guardian.1
۞ وَأَيُّوبَ And Ayub wa-ayyūba when idh he called nādā (to) his Lord rabbahu Indeed, [I] annī has touched me massaniya the adversity l-ḍuru and You wa-anta (are) Most Merciful arḥamu (of) the Merciful l-rāḥimīna
And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, "Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the most merciful of the merciful."
فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا So We responded fa-is'tajabnā to him lahu and We removed fakashafnā what mā (was) on him bihi of min (the) adversity ḍurrin And We gave him waātaynāhu his family ahlahu and (the) like thereof wamith'lahum with them maʿahum (as) Mercy raḥmatan from Ourselves min from Ourselves ʿindinā and a reminder wadhik'rā for the worshippers lil'ʿābidīna
So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allāh].
وَإِسْمَـٰعِيلَ And Ishmael wa-is'māʿīla and Idris wa-id'rīsa and Dhul-Kifl wadhā and Dhul-Kifl l-kif'li all kullun (were) of mina the patient ones l-ṣābirīna
And [mention] Ishmael and Idrees and Dhul-Kifl; all were of the patient.
وَأَدْخَلْنَـٰهُمْ And We admitted them wa-adkhalnāhum in fī Our Mercy raḥmatinā Indeed, they innahum (were) of mina the righteous l-ṣāliḥīna
And We admitted them into Our mercy. Indeed, they were of the righteous.
وَذَا And Dhun-Nun wadhā And Dhun-Nun l-nūni when idh he went dhahaba (while) angry mughāḍiban and thought faẓanna that an never lan We would decree naqdira upon him ʿalayhi Then he called fanādā in fī the darkness(es) l-ẓulumāti that an (There is) no lā god ilāha except illā You anta Glory be to You sub'ḥānaka Indeed, [I] innī I am kuntu of mina the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
And [mention] the man of the fish [i.e., Jonah], when he went off in anger1 and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him.2 And he called out within the darknesses,3 "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers."
فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا So We responded fa-is'tajabnā to him lahu and We saved him wanajjaynāhu from mina the distress l-ghami And thus wakadhālika We save nunjī the believers l-mu'minīna
So We responded to him and saved him from the distress. And thus do We save the believers.
وَزَكَرِيَّآ And Zakariya wazakariyyā when idh he called nādā (to) his Lord rabbahu My Lord rabbi (Do) not lā leave me tadharnī alone fardan while You wa-anta (are) [the] Best khayru (of) the inheritors l-wārithīna
And [mention] Zechariah, when he called to his Lord, "My Lord, do not leave me alone [with no heir], while You are the best of inheritors."
فَٱسْتَجَبْنَا So We responded fa-is'tajabnā to him lahu and We bestowed wawahabnā on him lahu Yahya yaḥyā and We cured wa-aṣlaḥnā for him lahu his wife zawjahu Indeed, they innahum used (to) kānū hasten yusāriʿūna in fī good deeds l-khayrāti and they supplicate to Us wayadʿūnanā (in) hope raghaban and fear warahaban and they were wakānū to Us lanā humbly submissive khāshiʿīna
So We responded to him, and We gave to him John, and amended for him his wife. Indeed, they used to hasten to good deeds and supplicate1 Us in hope and fear, and they were to Us humbly submissive.
