رَّبُّ Lord rabbu (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and whatever wamā (is) between both of them baynahumā so worship Him fa-uʿ'bud'hu and be constant wa-iṣ'ṭabir in His worship liʿibādatihi Do hal you know taʿlamu for Him lahu any similarity samiyyan
Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them - so worship Him and have patience for His worship. Do you know of any similarity to Him?"
وَيَقُولُ And says wayaqūlu [the] man l-insānu What! When a-idhā What! When mā I am dead mittu surely will lasawfa I be brought forth ukh'raju alive ḥayyan
And man [i.e., the disbeliever] says, "When I have died, am I going to be brought forth alive?"
أَوَلَا Does not awalā remember yadhkuru [the] man l-insānu that We annā We created him khalaqnāhu before min before qablu while not walam he was yaku anything shayan
Does man not remember that We created him before, while he was nothing?
فَوَرَبِّكَ So by your Lord fawarabbika surely, We will gather them lanaḥshurannahum and the devils wal-shayāṭīna then thumma surely, We will bring them lanuḥ'ḍirannahum around ḥawla Hell jahannama bent (on) knees jithiyyan
So by your Lord, We will surely gather them and the devils; then We will bring them to be present around Hell upon their knees.1
ثُمَّ Then thumma surely, We will drag out lananziʿanna from min every kulli sect shīʿatin those of them ayyuhum (who were) worst ashaddu against ʿalā the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni (in) rebellion ʿitiyyan
Then We will surely extract from every sect those of them who were worst against the Most Merciful in insolence.
ثُمَّ Then thumma surely, We lanaḥnu know best aʿlamu [of] those who bi-alladhīna [they] hum (are) most worthy awlā therein bihā (of) being burnt ṣiliyyan
Then, surely it is We who are most knowing of those most worthy of burning therein.
وَإِن And (there is) not wa-in (any) of you minkum but illā (will be) passing over it wāriduhā (This) is kāna upon ʿalā your Lord rabbika an inevitability ḥatman decreed maqḍiyyan
And there is none of you except he will come to it.1 This is upon your Lord an inevitability decreed.
ثُمَّ Then thumma We will deliver nunajjī those who alladhīna feared (Allah) ittaqaw and We will leave wanadharu the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna therein fīhā bent (on) knees jithiyyan
Then We will save those who feared Allāh and leave the wrongdoers within it, on their knees.
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā are recited tut'lā to them ʿalayhim Our Verses āyātunā clear bayyinātin say qāla those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū to those who lilladhīna believed āmanū Which ayyu (of) the two groups l-farīqayni (is) better khayrun (in) position maqāman and best wa-aḥsanu (in) assembly nadiyyan
And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Which of [our] two parties is best in position and best in association?"1
وَكَمْ And how many wakam We destroyed ahlaknā before them qablahum of min a generation qarnin they hum (were) better aḥsanu (in) possessions athāthan and appearance wari'yan
And how many a generation have We destroyed before them who were better in possessions and [outward] appearance?
قُلْ Say qul Whoever man is kāna in fī [the] error l-ḍalālati then surely will extend falyamdud for him lahu the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu an extension maddan until ḥattā when idhā they see ra-aw what mā they were promised yūʿadūna either immā the punishment l-ʿadhāba or wa-immā the Hour l-sāʿata then they will know fasayaʿlamūna who man [he] huwa (is) worst sharrun (in) position makānan and weaker wa-aḍʿafu (in) forces jundan
Say, "Whoever is in error - let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised - either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] - they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers."
وَيَزِيدُ And Allah increases wayazīdu And Allah increases l-lahu those who alladhīna accept guidance ih'tadaw (in) guidance hudan And the everlasting wal-bāqiyātu good deeds l-ṣāliḥātu (are) better khayrun near ʿinda your Lord rabbika (for) reward thawāban and better wakhayrun (for) return maraddan
And Allāh increases those who were guided, in guidance, and the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord1 for reward and better for recourse.
