مَا Not mā (it) is kāna for the Prophet lilnnabiyyi and those who wa-alladhīna believe āmanū that an they ask forgiveness yastaghfirū for the polytheists lil'mush'rikīna even though walaw they be kānū near of kin ulī near of kin qur'bā after min after baʿdi [what] mā has become clear tabayyana to them lahum that they annahum (are the) companions aṣḥābu (of) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
It is not for the Prophet and those who have believed to ask forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they were relatives, after it has become clear to them that they are companions of Hellfire.
وَمَا And not wamā was kāna (the) asking of forgiveness is'tigh'fāru (by) Ibrahim ib'rāhīma for his father li-abīhi except illā because ʿan (of) a promise mawʿidatin he had promised it waʿadahā (to) him iyyāhu But when falammā it became clear tabayyana to him lahu that he annahu (was) an enemy ʿaduwwun to Allah lillahi he disassociated tabarra-a from him min'hu Indeed inna Ibrahim ib'rāhīma (was) compassionate la-awwāhun forbearing ḥalīmun
And the request of forgiveness of Abraham for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became apparent to him [i.e., Abraham] that he [i.e., the father] was an enemy to Allāh, he disassociated himself from him. Indeed was Abraham compassionate and patient.
