The Most High
﷽
الأعلى
سَبِّحِ Glorify sabbiḥi (the) name is'ma (of) your Lord rabbika the Most High l-aʿlā
Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High,
ٱلَّذِى The One Who alladhī created khalaqa then proportioned fasawwā
Who created and proportioned
وَٱلَّذِى And the One Who wa-alladhī measured qaddara then guided fahadā
And who destined and [then] guided
وَٱلَّذِىٓ And the One Who wa-alladhī brings forth akhraja the pasture l-marʿā
And who brings out the pasture
فَجَعَلَهُۥ And then makes it fajaʿalahu stubble ghuthāan dark aḥwā
And [then] makes it black stubble.
سَنُقْرِئُكَ We will make you recite sanuq'ri-uka so not falā you will forget tansā
We will make you recite, [O Muḥammad], and you will not forget,
إِلَّا Except illā what mā wills shāa Allah l-lahu Indeed, He innahu knows yaʿlamu the manifest l-jahra and what wamā is hidden yakhfā
Except what Allāh should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden.
وَنُيَسِّرُكَ And We will ease you wanuyassiruka to the ease lil'yus'rā
And We will ease you toward ease.1
فَذَكِّرْ So remind fadhakkir if in benefits nafaʿati the reminder l-dhik'rā
So remind, if the reminder should benefit;1
سَيَذَّكَّرُ He will pay heed sayadhakkaru (one) who man fears (Allah) yakhshā
He who fears [Allāh] will be reminded.
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا And will avoid it wayatajannabuhā the wretched one l-ashqā
But the wretched one will avoid it
ٱلَّذِى The one who alladhī will burn yaṣlā (in) the Fire l-nāra [the] great l-kub'rā
[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire,
ثُمَّ Then thumma not lā he will die yamūtu therein fīhā and not walā will live yaḥyā
Neither dying therein nor living.
قَدْ Certainly qad has succeeded aflaḥa (one) who man purifies (himself) tazakkā
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself
وَذَكَرَ And remembers wadhakara (the) name is'ma (of) his Lord rabbihi and prays faṣallā
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays.
بَلْ Nay bal You prefer tu'thirūna the life l-ḥayata (of) the world l-dun'yā
But you prefer the worldly life,
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ While the Hereafter wal-ākhiratu (is) better khayrun and everlasting wa-abqā
While the Hereafter is better and more enduring.
إِنَّ Indeed inna this hādhā surely (is) in lafī the Scriptures l-ṣuḥufi [the] former l-ūlā
Indeed, this is in the former scriptures,
صُحُفِ (The) Scriptures ṣuḥufi (of) Ibrahim ib'rāhīma and Musa wamūsā
The scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
