At-Takwīr
The Overthrowing

التكوير
إِذَا When idhā the sun l-shamsu is wrapped up kuwwirat
When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the stars l-nujūmu fall, losing their luster inkadarat
And when the stars fall, dispersing,
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the mountains l-jibālu are moved away suyyirat
And when the mountains are removed
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the full-term she-camels l-ʿishāru (are) left untended ʿuṭṭilat
And when full-term she-camels are neglected
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the wild beasts l-wuḥūshu are gathered ḥushirat
And when the wild beasts are gathered
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the seas l-biḥāru are made to overflow sujjirat
And when the seas are filled with flame
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the souls l-nufūsu are paired zuwwijat
And when the souls are paired
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the female infant buried alive l-mawūdatu is asked su-ilat
And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked
بِأَىِّ For what bi-ayyi sin dhanbin she was killed qutilat
For what sin she was killed
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the pages l-ṣuḥufu are laid open nushirat
And when the pages are spread [i.e., made public]
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the sky l-samāu is stripped away kushiṭat
And when the sky is stripped away
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā the Hellfire l-jaḥīmu is set ablaze suʿʿirat
And when Hellfire is set ablaze
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā Paradise l-janatu is brought near uz'lifat
And when Paradise is brought near,
عَلِمَتْ Will know ʿalimat a soul nafsun what mā it has brought aḥḍarat
A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it].
