مَا Not mā is kāna for a Prophet linabiyyin that an (there) should be yakūna for him lahu prisoners of war asrā until ḥattā he has battled strenuously yuth'khina in fī the land l-arḍi You desire turīdūna (the) commodities ʿaraḍa (of) the world l-dun'yā but Allah wal-lahu desires yurīdu (for you) the Hereafter l-ākhirata And Allah wal-lahu (is) All-Mighty ʿazīzun All-Wise ḥakīmun
It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre [upon Allāh's enemies] in the land. You [i.e., some Muslims] desire the commodities of this world,1 but Allāh desires [for you] the Hereafter. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.
