Al-'Anfāl

The Spoils of War

الأنفال

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ

They ask you

yasalūnaka

عَنِ

about

ʿani

ٱلْأَنفَالِ ۖ

the spoils of war

l-anfāli

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱلْأَنفَالُ

The spoils of war

l-anfālu

لِلَّهِ

(are) for Allah

lillahi

وَٱلرَّسُولِ ۖ

and the Messenger

wal-rasūli

فَٱتَّقُوا۟

So fear

fa-ittaqū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَأَصْلِحُوا۟

and set right

wa-aṣliḥū

ذَاتَ

that

dhāta

بَيْنِكُمْ ۖ

(which is) between you

baynikum

وَأَطِيعُوا۟

and obey

wa-aṭīʿū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ

and His Messenger

warasūlahu

إِن

if

in

كُنتُم

you are

kuntum

مُّؤْمِنِينَ

believers

mu'minīna

١

They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allāh and the Messenger." So fear Allāh and amend that which is between you and obey Allāh and His Messenger, if you should be believers.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّمَا

Only

innamā

ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

the believers

l-mu'minūna

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) those who

alladhīna

إِذَا

when

idhā

ذُكِرَ

is mentioned

dhukira

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

وَجِلَتْ

feel fear

wajilat

قُلُوبُهُمْ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

وَإِذَا

and when

wa-idhā

تُلِيَتْ

are recited

tuliyat

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ

His Verses

āyātuhu

زَادَتْهُمْ

they increase them

zādathum

إِيمَـٰنًۭا

(in) faith

īmānan

وَعَلَىٰ

and upon

waʿalā

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

يَتَوَكَّلُونَ

they put their trust

yatawakkalūna

٢

The believers are only those who, when Allāh is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يُقِيمُونَ

establish

yuqīmūna

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ

the prayer

l-ṣalata

وَمِمَّا

and out of what

wamimmā

رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ

We have provided them

razaqnāhum

يُنفِقُونَ

they spend

yunfiqūna

٣

The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend.

— Saheeh International

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

هُمُ

they are

humu

ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

the believers

l-mu'minūna

حَقًّۭا ۚ

(in) truth

ḥaqqan

لَّهُمْ

For them

lahum

دَرَجَـٰتٌ

(are) ranks

darajātun

عِندَ

with

ʿinda

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ

and forgiveness

wamaghfiratun

وَرِزْقٌۭ

and a provision

wariz'qun

كَرِيمٌۭ

noble

karīmun

٤

Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.

— Saheeh International

كَمَآ

As

kamā

أَخْرَجَكَ

brought you out

akhrajaka

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

مِنۢ

from

min

بَيْتِكَ

your home

baytika

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَإِنَّ

while indeed

wa-inna

فَرِيقًۭا

a party

farīqan

مِّنَ

among

mina

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

لَكَـٰرِهُونَ

certainly disliked

lakārihūna

٥

[It1 is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling,

— Saheeh International

يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ

They dispute with you

yujādilūnaka

فِى

concerning

ٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

l-ḥaqi

بَعْدَ مَا

after what

baʿdamā

تَبَيَّنَ

was made clear

tabayyana

كَأَنَّمَا

as if

ka-annamā

يُسَاقُونَ

they were driven

yusāqūna

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْمَوْتِ

[the] death

l-mawti

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَنظُرُونَ

(were) looking

yanẓurūna

٦

Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

يَعِدُكُمُ

promised you

yaʿidukumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

إِحْدَى

one

iḥ'dā

ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ

(of) the two groups

l-ṭāifatayni

أَنَّهَا

that it (would be)

annahā

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

وَتَوَدُّونَ

and you wished

watawaddūna

أَنَّ

that

anna

غَيْرَ

(one) other than

ghayra

ذَاتِ

that

dhāti

ٱلشَّوْكَةِ

(of) the armed

l-shawkati

تَكُونُ

would be

takūnu

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

وَيُرِيدُ

But intended

wayurīdu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

أَن

to

an

يُحِقَّ

justify

yuḥiqqa

ٱلْحَقَّ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ

by His words

bikalimātihi

وَيَقْطَعَ

and cut off

wayaqṭaʿa

دَابِرَ

(the) roots

dābira

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

(of) the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

٧

[Remember, O believers], when Allāh promised you one of the two groups1 - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers

— Saheeh International

لِيُحِقَّ

That He might justify

liyuḥiqqa

ٱلْحَقَّ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

وَيُبْطِلَ

and prove false

wayub'ṭila

ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ

the falsehood

l-bāṭila

وَلَوْ

even if

walaw

كَرِهَ

disliked (it)

kariha

ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

the criminals

l-muj'rimūna

٨

That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

تَسْتَغِيثُونَ

you were seeking help

tastaghīthūna

رَبَّكُمْ

(of) your Lord

rabbakum

فَٱسْتَجَابَ

and He answered

fa-is'tajāba

لَكُمْ

[to] you

lakum

أَنِّى

Indeed, I am

annī

مُمِدُّكُم

going to reinforce you

mumiddukum

بِأَلْفٍۢ

with a thousand

bi-alfin

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

the Angels

l-malāikati

مُرْدِفِينَ

one after another

mur'difīna

٩

[Remember] when you were asking help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

جَعَلَهُ

(it was) made

jaʿalahu

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

إِلَّا

but

illā

بُشْرَىٰ

good tidings

bush'rā

وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ

and so that might be at rest

walitaṭma-inna

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

قُلُوبُكُمْ ۚ

your hearts

qulūbukum

وَمَا

And (there is) no

wamā

ٱلنَّصْرُ

[the] victory

l-naṣru

إِلَّا

except

illā

مِنْ

from

min

عِندِ

[of]

ʿindi

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَزِيزٌ

(is) All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

حَكِيمٌ

All-Wise

ḥakīmun

١٠

And Allāh made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

يُغَشِّيكُمُ

He covered you

yughashīkumu

ٱلنُّعَاسَ

with [the] slumber

l-nuʿāsa

أَمَنَةًۭ

a security

amanatan

مِّنْهُ

from Him

min'hu

وَيُنَزِّلُ

and sent down

wayunazzilu

عَلَيْكُم

upon you

ʿalaykum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۭ

water

māan

لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم

so that He may purify you

liyuṭahhirakum

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

وَيُذْهِبَ

and take away

wayudh'hiba

عَنكُمْ

from you

ʿankum

رِجْزَ

evil (suggestions)

rij'za

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ

(of) the Shaitaan

l-shayṭāni

وَلِيَرْبِطَ

And to strengthen

waliyarbiṭa

عَلَىٰ

[on]

ʿalā

قُلُوبِكُمْ

your hearts

qulūbikum

وَيُثَبِّتَ

and make firm

wayuthabbita

بِهِ

with it

bihi

ٱلْأَقْدَامَ

your feet

l-aqdāma

١١

[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

يُوحِى

inspired

yūḥī

رَبُّكَ

your Lord

rabbuka

إِلَى

to

ilā

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ

the Angels

l-malāikati

أَنِّى

I am

annī

مَعَكُمْ

with you

maʿakum

فَثَبِّتُوا۟

so strengthen

fathabbitū

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ

believed

āmanū

سَأُلْقِى

I will cast

sa-ul'qī

فِى

in

قُلُوبِ

(the) hearts

qulūbi

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

ٱلرُّعْبَ

the terror

l-ruʿ'ba

فَٱضْرِبُوا۟

so strike

fa-iḍ'ribū

فَوْقَ

above

fawqa

ٱلْأَعْنَاقِ

the necks

l-aʿnāqi

وَٱضْرِبُوا۟

and strike

wa-iḍ'ribū

مِنْهُمْ

from them

min'hum

كُلَّ

every

kulla

بَنَانٍۢ

fingertip[s]

banānin

١٢

[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."1

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِأَنَّهُمْ

(is) because they

bi-annahum

شَآقُّوا۟

opposed

shāqqū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ

and His Messenger

warasūlahu

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُشَاقِقِ

opposes

yushāqiqi

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَرَسُولَهُۥ

and His Messenger

warasūlahu

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

شَدِيدُ

(is) severe

shadīdu

ٱلْعِقَابِ

in [the] penalty

l-ʿiqābi

١٣

That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh and His Messenger - indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكُمْ

That

dhālikum

فَذُوقُوهُ

So taste it

fadhūqūhu

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

for the disbelievers

lil'kāfirīna

عَذَابَ

(is the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلنَّارِ

(of) the Fire

l-nāri

١٤

"That [is yours], so taste it." And indeed for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believe

āmanū

إِذَا

When

idhā

لَقِيتُمُ

you meet

laqītumu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

زَحْفًۭا

advancing

zaḥfan

فَلَا

then (do) not

falā

تُوَلُّوهُمُ

turn to them

tuwallūhumu

ٱلْأَدْبَارَ

the backs

l-adbāra

١٥

O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [in battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight].

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يُوَلِّهِمْ

turns to them

yuwallihim

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that day

yawma-idhin

دُبُرَهُۥٓ

his back

duburahu

إِلَّا

except

illā

مُتَحَرِّفًۭا

(as) a strategy

mutaḥarrifan

لِّقِتَالٍ

of war

liqitālin

أَوْ

or

aw

مُتَحَيِّزًا

(to) join

mutaḥayyizan

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

فِئَةٍۢ

a group

fi-atin

فَقَدْ

certainly

faqad

بَآءَ

(he has) incurred

bāa

بِغَضَبٍۢ

wrath

bighaḍabin

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَمَأْوَىٰهُ

and his abode

wamawāhu

جَهَنَّمُ ۖ

(is) Hell

jahannamu

وَبِئْسَ

a wretched

wabi'sa

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

destination

l-maṣīru

١٦

And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allāh, and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination.

— Saheeh International

فَلَمْ

And not

falam

تَقْتُلُوهُمْ

you kill them

taqtulūhum

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

قَتَلَهُمْ ۚ

killed them

qatalahum

وَمَا

And not

wamā

رَمَيْتَ

you threw

ramayta

إِذْ

when

idh

رَمَيْتَ

you threw

ramayta

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

رَمَىٰ ۚ

threw

ramā

وَلِيُبْلِىَ

and that He may test

waliyub'liya

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

مِنْهُ

from Him

min'hu

بَلَآءً

(with) a trial

balāan

حَسَنًا ۚ

good

ḥasanan

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَمِيعٌ

(is) All-Hearing

samīʿun

عَلِيمٌۭ

All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

١٧

And you did not kill them, but it was Allāh who killed them.1 And you threw not, [O Muḥammad], when you threw, but it was Allāh who threw2 that He might test the believers with a good test.3 Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكُمْ

That (is the case)

dhālikum

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah (is)

l-laha

مُوهِنُ

one who makes weak

mūhinu

كَيْدِ

(the) plan

kaydi

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

(of) the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

١٨

That [is so], and [also] that Allāh will weaken the plot of the disbelievers.

— Saheeh International

إِن

If

in

تَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟

you ask for victory

tastaftiḥū

فَقَدْ

then certainly

faqad

جَآءَكُمُ

has come to you

jāakumu

ٱلْفَتْحُ ۖ

the victory

l-fatḥu

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَنتَهُوا۟

you desist

tantahū

فَهُوَ

then it (is)

fahuwa

خَيْرٌۭ

good

khayrun

لَّكُمْ ۖ

for you

lakum

وَإِن

but if

wa-in

تَعُودُوا۟

you return

taʿūdū

نَعُدْ

We will return (too)

naʿud

وَلَن

And never

walan

تُغْنِىَ

will avail

tugh'niya

عَنكُمْ

you

ʿankum

فِئَتُكُمْ

your forces

fi-atukum

شَيْـًۭٔا

anything

shayan

وَلَوْ

even if

walaw

كَثُرَتْ

(they are) numerous

kathurat

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مَعَ

(is) with

maʿa

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

١٩

If you [disbelievers] seek the decision [i.e., victory] - the decision [i.e., defeat] has come to you. And if you desist [from hostilities], it is best for you; but if you return [to war], We will return, and never will you be availed by your [large] company at all, even if it should increase; and [that is] because Allāh is with the believers.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believe

āmanū

أَطِيعُوا۟

Obey

aṭīʿū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَرَسُولَهُۥ

and His Messenger

warasūlahu

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَوَلَّوْا۟

turn away

tawallaw

عَنْهُ

from him

ʿanhu

وَأَنتُمْ

while you

wa-antum

تَسْمَعُونَ

hear

tasmaʿūna

٢٠

O you who have believed, obey Allāh and His Messenger and do not turn from him while you hear [his order].

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَكُونُوا۟

be

takūnū

كَٱلَّذِينَ

like those who

ka-alladhīna

قَالُوا۟

say

qālū

سَمِعْنَا

We heard

samiʿ'nā

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

لَا

(do) not

يَسْمَعُونَ

hear

yasmaʿūna

٢١

And do not be like those who say, "We have heard," while they do not hear.

— Saheeh International

۞ إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

شَرَّ

worst

sharra

ٱلدَّوَآبِّ

(of) the living creatures

l-dawābi

عِندَ

near

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ٱلصُّمُّ

(are) the deaf

l-ṣumu

ٱلْبُكْمُ

the dumb

l-buk'mu

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يَعْقِلُونَ

use (their) intellect

yaʿqilūna

٢٢

Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason [i.e., the disbelievers].

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

عَلِمَ

(had) known

ʿalima

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

فِيهِمْ

in them

fīhim

خَيْرًۭا

any good

khayran

لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ ۖ

surely, He (would) have made them hear

la-asmaʿahum

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

أَسْمَعَهُمْ

He had made them hear

asmaʿahum

لَتَوَلَّوا۟

surely they would have turned away

latawallaw

وَّهُم

while they

wahum

مُّعْرِضُونَ

(were) averse

muʿ'riḍūna

٢٣

Had Allāh known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And if He had made them hear, they would [still] have turned away, while they were refusing.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟

Respond

is'tajībū

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

وَلِلرَّسُولِ

and His Messenger

walilrrasūli

إِذَا

when

idhā

دَعَاكُمْ

he calls you

daʿākum

لِمَا

to what

limā

يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖ

gives you life

yuḥ'yīkum

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟

And know

wa-iʿ'lamū

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَحُولُ

comes

yaḥūlu

بَيْنَ

(in) between

bayna

ٱلْمَرْءِ

a man

l-mari

وَقَلْبِهِۦ

and his heart

waqalbihi

وَأَنَّهُۥٓ

and that

wa-annahu

إِلَيْهِ

to Him

ilayhi

تُحْشَرُونَ

you will be gathered

tuḥ'sharūna

٢٤

O you who have believed, respond to Allāh and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allāh intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.

— Saheeh International

وَٱتَّقُوا۟

And fear

wa-ittaqū

فِتْنَةًۭ

a trial

fit'natan

لَّا

not

تُصِيبَنَّ

which will afflict

tuṣībanna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ظَلَمُوا۟

do wrong

ẓalamū

مِنكُمْ

among you

minkum

خَآصَّةًۭ ۖ

exclusively

khāṣṣatan

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟

And know

wa-iʿ'lamū

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

شَدِيدُ

(is) severe

shadīdu

ٱلْعِقَابِ

(in) the penalty

l-ʿiqābi

٢٥

And fear a trial1 which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allāh is severe in penalty.

— Saheeh International

وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟

And remember

wa-udh'kurū

إِذْ

when

idh

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

قَلِيلٌۭ

(were) few

qalīlun

مُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ

(and) deemed weak

mus'taḍʿafūna

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

تَخَافُونَ

fearing

takhāfūna

أَن

that

an

يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ

might do away with you

yatakhaṭṭafakumu

ٱلنَّاسُ

the men

l-nāsu

فَـَٔاوَىٰكُمْ

then He sheltered you

faāwākum

وَأَيَّدَكُم

and strengthened you

wa-ayyadakum

بِنَصْرِهِۦ

with His help

binaṣrihi

وَرَزَقَكُم

and provided you

warazaqakum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ

the good things

l-ṭayibāti

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَشْكُرُونَ

(be) thankful

tashkurūna

٢٦

And remember when you were few and oppressed in the land, fearing that people might abduct you, but He sheltered you, supported you with His victory, and provided you with good things - that you might be grateful.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

لَا

(Do) not

تَخُونُوا۟

betray

takhūnū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَٱلرَّسُولَ

and the Messenger

wal-rasūla

وَتَخُونُوٓا۟

or betray

watakhūnū

أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمْ

your trusts

amānātikum

وَأَنتُمْ

while you

wa-antum

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٢٧

O you who have believed, do not betray Allāh and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].

— Saheeh International

وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟

And know

wa-iʿ'lamū

أَنَّمَآ

that

annamā

أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ

your wealth

amwālukum

وَأَوْلَـٰدُكُمْ

and your children

wa-awlādukum

فِتْنَةٌۭ

(are) a trial

fit'natun

وَأَنَّ

And that

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عِندَهُۥٓ

with Him

ʿindahu

أَجْرٌ

(is) a reward

ajrun

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

٢٨

And know that your properties and your children are but a trial and that Allāh has with Him a great reward.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believe

āmanū

إِن

If

in

تَتَّقُوا۟

you fear

tattaqū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يَجْعَل

He will grant

yajʿal

لَّكُمْ

you

lakum

فُرْقَانًۭا

a criterion

fur'qānan

وَيُكَفِّرْ

and will remove

wayukaffir

عَنكُمْ

from you

ʿankum

سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ

your evil deeds

sayyiātikum

وَيَغْفِرْ

and forgive

wayaghfir

لَكُمْ ۗ

you

lakum

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

ذُو

(is) the Possessor

dhū

ٱلْفَضْلِ

(of) Bounty

l-faḍli

ٱلْعَظِيمِ

the Great

l-ʿaẓīmi

٢٩

O you who have believed, if you fear Allāh, He will grant you a criterion1 and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

يَمْكُرُ

plotted

yamkuru

بِكَ

against you

bika

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

لِيُثْبِتُوكَ

that they restrain you

liyuth'bitūka

أَوْ

or

aw

يَقْتُلُوكَ

kill you

yaqtulūka

أَوْ

or

aw

يُخْرِجُوكَ ۚ

drive you out

yukh'rijūka

وَيَمْكُرُونَ

And they were planning

wayamkurūna

وَيَمْكُرُ

and (also) was planning

wayamkuru

ٱللَّهُ ۖ

Allah

l-lahu

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

خَيْرُ

is (the) Best

khayru

ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ

(of) the Planners

l-mākirīna

٣٠

And [remember, O Muḥammad], when those who disbelieved plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allāh plans. And Allāh is the best of planners.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

تُتْلَىٰ

are recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْهِمْ

to them

ʿalayhim

ءَايَـٰتُنَا

Our Verses

āyātunā

قَالُوا۟

they say

qālū

قَدْ

Verily

qad

سَمِعْنَا

we have heard

samiʿ'nā

لَوْ

if

law

نَشَآءُ

we wish

nashāu

لَقُلْنَا

surely, we could say

laqul'nā

مِثْلَ

like

mith'la

هَـٰذَآ ۙ

this

hādhā

إِنْ

Not

in

هَـٰذَآ

is this

hādhā

إِلَّآ

but

illā

أَسَـٰطِيرُ

tales

asāṭīru

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

٣١

And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples."

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

ٱللَّهُمَّ

O Allah

l-lahuma

إِن

If

in

كَانَ

was

kāna

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

هُوَ

[it]

huwa

ٱلْحَقَّ

the truth

l-ḥaqa

مِنْ

[of]

min

عِندِكَ

from You

ʿindika

فَأَمْطِرْ

then (send) rain

fa-amṭir

عَلَيْنَا

upon us

ʿalaynā

حِجَارَةًۭ

(of) stones

ḥijāratan

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

أَوِ

or

awi

ٱئْتِنَا

bring (upon) us

i'tinā

بِعَذَابٍ

a punishment

biʿadhābin

أَلِيمٍۢ

painful

alīmin

٣٢

And [remember] when they said, "O Allāh, if this should be the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment."

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

But not

wamā

كَانَ

is

kāna

ٱللَّهُ

(for) Allah

l-lahu

لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ

that He punishes them

liyuʿadhibahum

وَأَنتَ

while you

wa-anta

فِيهِمْ ۚ

(are) among them

fīhim

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كَانَ

is

kāna

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

مُعَذِّبَهُمْ

the One Who punishes them

muʿadhibahum

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

seek forgiveness

yastaghfirūna

٣٣

But Allāh would not punish them while you, [O Muḥammad], are among them, and Allāh would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

But what

wamā

لَهُمْ

(is) for them

lahum

أَلَّا

that not

allā

يُعَذِّبَهُمُ

(should) punish them

yuʿadhibahumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

يَصُدُّونَ

hinder (people)

yaṣuddūna

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلْمَسْجِدِ

Al-Masjid

l-masjidi

ٱلْحَرَامِ

Al-Haraam

l-ḥarāmi

وَمَا

while not

wamā

كَانُوٓا۟

they are

kānū

أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ

its guardians

awliyāahu

إِنْ

Not (can be)

in

أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ

its guardians

awliyāuhu

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ

the ones who fear Allah

l-mutaqūna

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَهُمْ

most of them

aktharahum

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٣٤

But why should Allāh not punish them while they obstruct [people] from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām and they were not [fit to be] its guardians? Its [true] guardians are not but the righteous, but most of them do not know.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

كَانَ

was

kāna

صَلَاتُهُمْ

their prayer

ṣalātuhum

عِندَ

at

ʿinda

ٱلْبَيْتِ

the House

l-bayti

إِلَّا

except

illā

مُكَآءًۭ

whistling

mukāan

وَتَصْدِيَةًۭ ۚ

and clapping

wataṣdiyatan

فَذُوقُوا۟

So taste

fadhūqū

ٱلْعَذَابَ

the punishment

l-ʿadhāba

بِمَا

because

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَكْفُرُونَ

disbelieve

takfurūna

٣٥

And their prayer at the House [i.e., the Kaʿbah] was not except whistling and handclapping. So taste the punishment for what you disbelieved [i.e., practiced of deviations].

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

يُنفِقُونَ

they spend

yunfiqūna

أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ

their wealth

amwālahum

لِيَصُدُّوا۟

to hinder (people)

liyaṣuddū

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا

So they will spend it

fasayunfiqūnahā

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

تَكُونُ

it will be

takūnu

عَلَيْهِمْ

for them

ʿalayhim

حَسْرَةًۭ

a regret

ḥasratan

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُغْلَبُونَ ۗ

they will be overcome

yugh'labūna

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

جَهَنَّمَ

Hell

jahannama

يُحْشَرُونَ

they will be gathered

yuḥ'sharūna

٣٦

Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allāh. So they will spend it; then it will be for them a [source of] regret; then they will be overcome. And those who have disbelieved - unto Hell they will be gathered.

— Saheeh International

لِيَمِيزَ

That may distinguish

liyamīza

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

ٱلْخَبِيثَ

the wicked

l-khabītha

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلطَّيِّبِ

the good

l-ṭayibi

وَيَجْعَلَ

and place

wayajʿala

ٱلْخَبِيثَ

the wicked

l-khabītha

بَعْضَهُۥ

some of them

baʿḍahu

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

بَعْضٍۢ

others

baʿḍin

فَيَرْكُمَهُۥ

and heap them

fayarkumahu

جَمِيعًۭا

all together

jamīʿan

فَيَجْعَلَهُۥ

and put them

fayajʿalahu

فِى

in

جَهَنَّمَ ۚ

Hell

jahannama

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

هُمُ

they

humu

ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ

(are) the losers

l-khāsirūna

٣٧

[It is] so that Allāh may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers.

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لِّلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

إِن

if

in

يَنتَهُوا۟

they cease

yantahū

يُغْفَرْ

will be forgiven

yugh'far

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مَّا

what

قَدْ

[verily]

qad

سَلَفَ

(is) past

salafa

وَإِن

But if

wa-in

يَعُودُوا۟

they return

yaʿūdū

فَقَدْ

then verily

faqad

مَضَتْ

preceded

maḍat

سُنَّتُ

(the) practice

sunnatu

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

٣٨

Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them. But if they return [to hostility] - then the precedent of the former [rebellious] peoples has already taken place.1

— Saheeh International

وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمْ

And fight them

waqātilūhum

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

لَا

not

تَكُونَ

there is

takūna

فِتْنَةٌۭ

oppression

fit'natun

وَيَكُونَ

and is

wayakūna

ٱلدِّينُ

the religion

l-dīnu

كُلُّهُۥ

all of it

kulluhu

لِلَّهِ ۚ

for Allah

lillahi

فَإِنِ

But if

fa-ini

ٱنتَهَوْا۟

they cease

intahaw

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

بِمَا

of what

bimā

يَعْمَلُونَ

they do

yaʿmalūna

بَصِيرٌۭ

(is) All-Seer

baṣīrun

٣٩

And fight against them until there is no fitnah1 and [until] the religion [i.e., worship], all of it, is for Allāh.2 And if they cease - then indeed, Allāh is Seeing of what they do.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

تَوَلَّوْا۟

they turn away

tawallaw

فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟

then know

fa-iʿ'lamū

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۚ

(is) your Protector

mawlākum

نِعْمَ

Excellent

niʿ'ma

ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ

(is) the Protector

l-mawlā

وَنِعْمَ

and Excellent

waniʿ'ma

ٱلنَّصِيرُ

(is) the Helper

l-naṣīru

٤٠

But if they turn away - then know that Allāh is your protector. Excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟

And know

wa-iʿ'lamū

أَنَّمَا

that what

annamā

غَنِمْتُم

you obtain (as) spoils of war

ghanim'tum

مِّن

of

min

شَىْءٍۢ

anything

shayin

فَأَنَّ

then that

fa-anna

لِلَّهِ

for Allah

lillahi

خُمُسَهُۥ

(is) one fifth of it

khumusahu

وَلِلرَّسُولِ

and for the Messenger

walilrrasūli

وَلِذِى

and for the

walidhī

ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ

near relatives

l-qur'bā

وَٱلْيَتَـٰمَىٰ

and the orphans

wal-yatāmā

وَٱلْمَسَـٰكِينِ

and the needy

wal-masākīni

وَٱبْنِ

and the

wa-ib'ni

ٱلسَّبِيلِ

wayfarer

l-sabīli

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

ءَامَنتُم

believe

āmantum

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَمَآ

and (in) what

wamā

أَنزَلْنَا

We sent down

anzalnā

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

عَبْدِنَا

Our slave

ʿabdinā

يَوْمَ

(on the) day

yawma

ٱلْفُرْقَانِ

(of) the criterion

l-fur'qāni

يَوْمَ

(the) day

yawma

ٱلْتَقَى

(when) met

l-taqā

ٱلْجَمْعَانِ ۗ

the two forces

l-jamʿāni

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

عَلَىٰ

(is) on

ʿalā

كُلِّ

every

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

thing

shayin

قَدِيرٌ

All-Powerful

qadīrun

٤١

And know that anything you obtain of war booty - then indeed, for Allāh is one fifth of it and for the Messenger1 and for [his] near relatives2 and the orphans, the needy, and the [stranded] traveler,3 if you have believed in Allāh and in that which We sent down to Our Servant4 on the day of criterion [i.e., decisive encounter] - the day when the two armies met [at Badr]. And Allāh, over all things, is competent.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

أَنتُم

you (were)

antum

بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ

on side of the valley

bil-ʿud'wati

ٱلدُّنْيَا

the nearer

l-dun'yā

وَهُم

and they

wahum

بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ

(were) on the side

bil-ʿud'wati

ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ

the farther

l-quṣ'wā

وَٱلرَّكْبُ

and the caravan

wal-rakbu

أَسْفَلَ

(was) lower

asfala

مِنكُمْ ۚ

than you

minkum

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

تَوَاعَدتُّمْ

you (had) made an appointment

tawāʿadttum

لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ

certainly you would have failed

la-ikh'talaftum

فِى

in

ٱلْمِيعَـٰدِ ۙ

the appointment

l-mīʿādi

وَلَـٰكِن

But

walākin

لِّيَقْضِىَ

that might accomplish

liyaqḍiya

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

أَمْرًۭا

a matter

amran

كَانَ

(that) was

kāna

مَفْعُولًۭا

destined

mafʿūlan

لِّيَهْلِكَ

that (might be) destroyed

liyahlika

مَنْ

(those) who

man

هَلَكَ

(were to be) destroyed

halaka

عَنۢ

on

ʿan

بَيِّنَةٍۢ

a clear evidence

bayyinatin

وَيَحْيَىٰ

and (might) live

wayaḥyā

مَنْ

(those) who

man

حَىَّ

(were to) live

ḥayya

عَنۢ

on

ʿan

بَيِّنَةٍۢ ۗ

a clear evidence

bayyinatin

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَسَمِيعٌ

(is) All-Hearing

lasamīʿun

عَلِيمٌ

All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

٤٢

[Remember] when you were on the near side of the valley, and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower [in position] than you. If you had made an appointment [to meet], you would have missed the appointment. But [it was] so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined - that those who perished [through disbelief] would perish upon evidence and those who lived [in faith] would live upon evidence; and indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

يُرِيكَهُمُ

you (where) shown them

yurīkahumu

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

فِى

in

مَنَامِكَ

your dream

manāmika

قَلِيلًۭا ۖ

(as) few

qalīlan

وَلَوْ

and if

walaw

أَرَىٰكَهُمْ

He had shown them to you

arākahum

كَثِيرًۭا

(as) many

kathīran

لَّفَشِلْتُمْ

surely you would have lost courage

lafashil'tum

وَلَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ

and surely you would have disputed

walatanāzaʿtum

فِى

in

ٱلْأَمْرِ

the matter

l-amri

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَلَّمَ ۗ

saved (you)

sallama

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

عَلِيمٌۢ

(is) All-Knower

ʿalīmun

بِذَاتِ

of what is in

bidhāti

ٱلصُّدُورِ

the breasts

l-ṣudūri

٤٣

[Remember, O Muḥammad], when Allāh showed them to you in your dream as few; and if He had shown them to you as many, you [believers] would have lost courage and would have disputed in the matter [of whether to fight], but Allāh saved [you from that]. Indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ

He showed them to you

yurīkumūhum

إِذِ

when

idhi

ٱلْتَقَيْتُمْ

you met

l-taqaytum

فِىٓ

in

أَعْيُنِكُمْ

your eyes

aʿyunikum

قَلِيلًۭا

(as) few

qalīlan

وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ

and He made you (appear) as few

wayuqallilukum

فِىٓ

in

أَعْيُنِهِمْ

their eyes

aʿyunihim

لِيَقْضِىَ

that might accomplish

liyaqḍiya

ٱللَّهُ

Allah might accomplish

l-lahu

أَمْرًۭا

a matter

amran

كَانَ

(that) was

kāna

مَفْعُولًۭا ۗ

(already) destined

mafʿūlan

وَإِلَى

And to

wa-ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

تُرْجَعُ

return

tur'jaʿu

ٱلْأُمُورُ

(all) the matters

l-umūru

٤٤

And [remember] when He showed them to you, when you met, as few in your eyes, and He made you [appear] as few in their eyes so that Allāh might accomplish a matter already destined. And to Allāh are [all] matters returned.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believe

āmanū

إِذَا

When

idhā

لَقِيتُمْ

you meet

laqītum

فِئَةًۭ

a force

fi-atan

فَٱثْبُتُوا۟

then be firm

fa-uth'butū

وَٱذْكُرُوا۟

and remember

wa-udh'kurū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

كَثِيرًۭا

much

kathīran

لَّعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تُفْلِحُونَ

(be) successful

tuf'liḥūna

٤٥

O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [from the enemy forces], stand firm and remember Allāh much that you may be successful.

— Saheeh International

وَأَطِيعُوا۟

And obey

wa-aṭīʿū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَرَسُولَهُۥ

and His Messenger

warasūlahu

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَنَـٰزَعُوا۟

dispute

tanāzaʿū

فَتَفْشَلُوا۟

lest you lose courage

fatafshalū

وَتَذْهَبَ

and (would) depart

watadhhaba

رِيحُكُمْ ۖ

your strength

rīḥukum

وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۚ

and be patient

wa-iṣ'birū

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مَعَ

(is) with

maʿa

ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

the patient ones

l-ṣābirīna

٤٦

And obey Allāh and His Messenger, and do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allāh is with the patient.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَكُونُوا۟

be

takūnū

كَٱلَّذِينَ

like those who

ka-alladhīna

خَرَجُوا۟

came forth

kharajū

مِن

from

min

دِيَـٰرِهِم

their homes

diyārihim

بَطَرًۭا

boastfully

baṭaran

وَرِئَآءَ

and showing off

wariāa

ٱلنَّاسِ

(to) the people

l-nāsi

وَيَصُدُّونَ

and hinder (them)

wayaṣuddūna

عَن

from

ʿan

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

يَعْمَلُونَ

they do

yaʿmalūna

مُحِيطٌۭ

(is) All-Encompassing

muḥīṭun

٤٧

And do not be like those who came forth from their homes insolently and to be seen by people and avert [them] from the way of Allāh. And Allāh is encompassing1 of what they do.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

زَيَّنَ

made fair-seeming

zayyana

لَهُمُ

to them

lahumu

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ

their deeds

aʿmālahum

وَقَالَ

and he said

waqāla

لَا

No (one)

غَالِبَ

(can) overcome

ghāliba

لَكُمُ

[to] you

lakumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ

today

l-yawma

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلنَّاسِ

the people

l-nāsi

وَإِنِّى

and indeed, I am

wa-innī

جَارٌۭ

a neighbor

jārun

لَّكُمْ ۖ

for you

lakum

فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

تَرَآءَتِ

came in sight

tarāati

ٱلْفِئَتَانِ

the two forces

l-fi-atāni

نَكَصَ

he turned away

nakaṣa

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

عَقِبَيْهِ

his heels

ʿaqibayhi

وَقَالَ

and said

waqāla

إِنِّى

Indeed, I am

innī

بَرِىٓءٌۭ

free

barīon

مِّنكُمْ

of you

minkum

إِنِّىٓ

Indeed, I

innī

أَرَىٰ

see

arā

مَا

what

لَا

not

تَرَوْنَ

you see

tarawna

إِنِّىٓ

indeed, I

innī

أَخَافُ

[I] fear

akhāfu

ٱللَّهَ ۚ

Allah

l-laha

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

شَدِيدُ

(is) severe

shadīdu

ٱلْعِقَابِ

(in) the penalty

l-ʿiqābi

٤٨

And [remember] when Satan made their deeds pleasing to them and said, "No one can overcome you today from among the people, and indeed, I am your protector." But when the two armies sighted each other, he turned on his heels and said, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I see what you do not see; indeed, I fear Allāh. And Allāh is severe in penalty."

— Saheeh International

إِذْ

When

idh

يَقُولُ

said

yaqūlu

ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ

the hypocrites

l-munāfiqūna

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

فِى

in

قُلُوبِهِم

their hearts

qulūbihim

مَّرَضٌ

(was) a disease

maraḍun

غَرَّ

(Had) deluded

gharra

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these (people)

hāulāi

دِينُهُمْ ۗ

their religion

dīnuhum

وَمَن

But whoever

waman

يَتَوَكَّلْ

puts (his) trust

yatawakkal

عَلَى

in

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

عَزِيزٌ

(is) All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

حَكِيمٌۭ

All-Wise

ḥakīmun

٤٩

[Remember] when the hypocrites and those in whose hearts was disease [i.e., arrogance and disbelief] said, "Their religion has deluded those [Muslims]." But whoever relies upon Allāh - then indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

تَرَىٰٓ

you (could) see

tarā

إِذْ

when

idh

يَتَوَفَّى

take away souls

yatawaffā

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟ ۙ

disbelieve

kafarū

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

يَضْرِبُونَ

striking

yaḍribūna

وُجُوهَهُمْ

their faces

wujūhahum

وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ

and their backs

wa-adbārahum

وَذُوقُوا۟

Taste

wadhūqū

عَذَابَ

(the) punishment

ʿadhāba

ٱلْحَرِيقِ

(of) the Blazing Fire

l-ḥarīqi

٥٠

And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved...1 They are striking their faces and their backs and [saying], "Taste the punishment of the Burning Fire.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِمَا

(is) for what

bimā

قَدَّمَتْ

sent forth

qaddamat

أَيْدِيكُمْ

your hands

aydīkum

وَأَنَّ

And indeed

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَيْسَ

(is) not

laysa

بِظَلَّـٰمٍۢ

unjust

biẓallāmin

لِّلْعَبِيدِ

to His slaves

lil'ʿabīdi

٥١

That is for what your hands have put forth [of evil] and because Allāh is not ever unjust to [His] servants."

— Saheeh International

كَدَأْبِ

Like (the) way

kadabi

ءَالِ

(of) people

āli

فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

مِن

(were) from

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

before them

qablihim

كَفَرُوا۟

They disbelieved

kafarū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

in (the) Signs

biāyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فَأَخَذَهُمُ

so seized them

fa-akhadhahumu

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

بِذُنُوبِهِمْ ۗ

for their sins

bidhunūbihim

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

قَوِىٌّۭ

(is) All-Strong

qawiyyun

شَدِيدُ

(and) severe

shadīdu

ٱلْعِقَابِ

(in) the penalty

l-ʿiqābi

٥٢

[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They disbelieved in the signs of Allāh, so Allāh seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and severe in penalty.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

بِأَنَّ

(is) because

bi-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَمْ

not

lam

يَكُ

is

yaku

مُغَيِّرًۭا

One Who changes

mughayyiran

نِّعْمَةً

a favor

niʿ'matan

أَنْعَمَهَا

which He had bestowed

anʿamahā

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

قَوْمٍ

a people

qawmin

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يُغَيِّرُوا۟

they change

yughayyirū

مَا

what

بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۙ

(is) in themselves

bi-anfusihim

وَأَنَّ

And indeed

wa-anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

سَمِيعٌ

(is) All-Hearing

samīʿun

عَلِيمٌۭ

All-Knowing

ʿalīmun

٥٣

That is because Allāh would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves. And indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

— Saheeh International

كَدَأْبِ

Like (the) way

kadabi

ءَالِ

(of) people

āli

فِرْعَوْنَ ۙ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

مِن

(were) from

min

قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ

before them

qablihim

كَذَّبُوا۟

They denied

kadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

(the) Signs

biāyāti

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم

so We destroyed them

fa-ahlaknāhum

بِذُنُوبِهِمْ

for their sins

bidhunūbihim

وَأَغْرَقْنَآ

and We drowned

wa-aghraqnā

ءَالَ

(the) people

āla

فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ

(of) Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَكُلٌّۭ

and (they) all

wakullun

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

ظَـٰلِمِينَ

wrongdoers

ẓālimīna

٥٤

[Theirs is] like the custom of the people of Pharaoh and of those before them. They denied the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins, and We drowned the people of Pharaoh. And all [of them] were wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

شَرَّ

(the) worst

sharra

ٱلدَّوَآبِّ

(of) the living creatures

l-dawābi

عِندَ

near

ʿinda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ٱلَّذِينَ

(are) those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

فَهُمْ

and they

fahum

لَا

(will) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

٥٥

Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are those who have disbelieved, and they will not [ever] believe-

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

عَـٰهَدتَّ

you made a covenant

ʿāhadtta

مِنْهُمْ

with them

min'hum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يَنقُضُونَ

they break

yanquḍūna

عَهْدَهُمْ

their covenant

ʿahdahum

فِى

[in]

كُلِّ

every

kulli

مَرَّةٍۢ

time

marratin

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

(do) not

يَتَّقُونَ

fear (Allah)

yattaqūna

٥٦

The ones with whom you made a treaty but then they break their pledge every time, and they do not fear Allāh.

— Saheeh International

فَإِمَّا

So if

fa-immā

تَثْقَفَنَّهُمْ

you gain dominance over them

tathqafannahum

فِى

in

ٱلْحَرْبِ

the war

l-ḥarbi

فَشَرِّدْ

disperse

fasharrid

بِهِم

by them

bihim

مَّنْ

(those) who

man

خَلْفَهُمْ

(are) behind them

khalfahum

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَذَّكَّرُونَ

take heed

yadhakkarūna

٥٧

So if you, [O Muḥammad], gain dominance over them in war, disperse by [means of] them those behind them that perhaps they will be reminded.1

— Saheeh International

وَإِمَّا

And if

wa-immā

تَخَافَنَّ

you fear

takhāfanna

مِن

from

min

قَوْمٍ

a people

qawmin

خِيَانَةًۭ

betrayal

khiyānatan

فَٱنۢبِذْ

throw back

fa-inbidh

إِلَيْهِمْ

to them

ilayhim

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

سَوَآءٍ ۚ

equal (terms)

sawāin

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

love

yuḥibbu

ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ

the traitors

l-khāinīna

٥٨

If you [have reason to] fear from a people betrayal, throw [their treaty] back to them, [putting you] on equal terms.1 Indeed, Allāh does not like traitors.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (let) not

walā

يَحْسَبَنَّ

think

yaḥsabanna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

سَبَقُوٓا۟ ۚ

they can outstrip

sabaqū

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

لَا

(can) not

يُعْجِزُونَ

escape

yuʿ'jizūna

٥٩

And let not those who disbelieve think they will escape. Indeed, they will not cause failure [to Allāh].

— Saheeh International

وَأَعِدُّوا۟

And prepare

wa-aʿiddū

لَهُم

for them

lahum

مَّا

whatever

ٱسْتَطَعْتُم

you able (to)

is'taṭaʿtum

مِّن

of

min

قُوَّةٍۢ

force

quwwatin

وَمِن

and of

wamin

رِّبَاطِ

tethered

ribāṭi

ٱلْخَيْلِ

horses

l-khayli

تُرْهِبُونَ

(to) terrify

tur'hibūna

بِهِۦ

therewith

bihi

عَدُوَّ

(the) enemy

ʿaduwwa

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَعَدُوَّكُمْ

and your enemy

waʿaduwwakum

وَءَاخَرِينَ

and others

waākharīna

مِن

from

min

دُونِهِمْ

besides them

dūnihim

لَا

not

تَعْلَمُونَهُمُ

(do) you know them

taʿlamūnahumu

ٱللَّهُ

(but) Allah

l-lahu

يَعْلَمُهُمْ ۚ

knows them

yaʿlamuhum

وَمَا

And whatever

wamā

تُنفِقُوا۟

you spend

tunfiqū

مِن

from

min

شَىْءٍۢ

(any) thing

shayin

فِى

in

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

يُوَفَّ

it will be fully repaid

yuwaffa

إِلَيْكُمْ

to you

ilaykum

وَأَنتُمْ

and you

wa-antum

لَا

(will) not

تُظْلَمُونَ

be wronged

tuẓ'lamūna

٦٠

And prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war1 by which you may terrify the enemy of Allāh and your enemy and others besides them whom you do not know [but] whom Allāh knows. And whatever you spend in the cause of Allāh will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَإِن

And if

wa-in

جَنَحُوا۟

they incline

janaḥū

لِلسَّلْمِ

to peace

lilssalmi

فَٱجْنَحْ

then you (also) incline

fa-ij'naḥ

لَهَا

to it

lahā

وَتَوَكَّلْ

and put (your) trust

watawakkal

عَلَى

in

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed

innahu

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلسَّمِيعُ

(is) All-Hearer

l-samīʿu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

All-Knower

l-ʿalīmu

٦١

And if they incline to peace, then incline to it [also] and rely upon Allāh. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

But if

wa-in

يُرِيدُوٓا۟

they intend

yurīdū

أَن

to

an

يَخْدَعُوكَ

deceive you

yakhdaʿūka

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

حَسْبَكَ

is sufficient for you

ḥasbaka

ٱللَّهُ ۚ

Allah

l-lahu

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِىٓ

(is) the One Who

alladhī

أَيَّدَكَ

supported you

ayyadaka

بِنَصْرِهِۦ

with His help

binaṣrihi

وَبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

and with the believers

wabil-mu'minīna

٦٢

But if they intend to deceive you - then sufficient for you is Allāh. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers

— Saheeh International

وَأَلَّفَ

And He (has) put affection

wa-allafa

بَيْنَ

between

bayna

قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ

their hearts

qulūbihim

لَوْ

If

law

أَنفَقْتَ

you (had) spent

anfaqta

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

جَمِيعًۭا

all

jamīʿan

مَّآ

not

أَلَّفْتَ

(could) you (have) put affection

allafta

بَيْنَ

between

bayna

قُلُوبِهِمْ

their hearts

qulūbihim

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

أَلَّفَ

(has) put affection

allafa

بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ

between them

baynahum

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

عَزِيزٌ

(is) All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

حَكِيمٌۭ

All-Wise

ḥakīmun

٦٣

And brought together their hearts. If you had spent all that is in the earth, you could not have brought their hearts together; but Allāh brought them together. Indeed, He is Exalted in Might and Wise.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّبِىُّ

Prophet

l-nabiyu

حَسْبُكَ

Sufficient for you

ḥasbuka

ٱللَّهُ

(is) Allah

l-lahu

وَمَنِ

and whoever

wamani

ٱتَّبَعَكَ

follows you

ittabaʿaka

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

٦٤

O Prophet, sufficient for you is Allāh and for whoever follows you of the believers.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّبِىُّ

Prophet

l-nabiyu

حَرِّضِ

Urge

ḥarriḍi

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believers

l-mu'minīna

عَلَى

to

ʿalā

ٱلْقِتَالِ ۚ

[the] fight

l-qitāli

إِن

If

in

يَكُن

(there) are

yakun

مِّنكُمْ

among you

minkum

عِشْرُونَ

twenty

ʿish'rūna

صَـٰبِرُونَ

steadfast

ṣābirūna

يَغْلِبُوا۟

they will overcome

yaghlibū

مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ

two hundred

mi-atayni

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَكُن

(there) are

yakun

مِّنكُم

among you

minkum

مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ

a hundred

mi-atun

يَغْلِبُوٓا۟

they will overcome

yaghlibū

أَلْفًۭا

a thousand

alfan

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

بِأَنَّهُمْ

because they

bi-annahum

قَوْمٌۭ

(are) a people

qawmun

لَّا

(who do) not

يَفْقَهُونَ

understand

yafqahūna

٦٥

O Prophet, urge the believers to battle. If there are among you twenty [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you one hundred [who are steadfast], they will overcome a thousand of those who have disbelieved because they are a people who do not understand.

— Saheeh International

ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ

Now

al-āna

خَفَّفَ

has (been) lightened

khaffafa

ٱللَّهُ

(by) Allah

l-lahu

عَنكُمْ

for you

ʿankum

وَعَلِمَ

and He knows

waʿalima

أَنَّ

that

anna

فِيكُمْ

in you

fīkum

ضَعْفًۭا ۚ

(there) is weakness

ḍaʿfan

فَإِن

So if

fa-in

يَكُن

(there) are

yakun

مِّنكُم

among you

minkum

مِّا۟ئَةٌۭ

a hundred

mi-atun

صَابِرَةٌۭ

steadfast

ṣābiratun

يَغْلِبُوا۟

they will overcome

yaghlibū

مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ

two hundred

mi-atayni

وَإِن

And if

wa-in

يَكُن

(there) are

yakun

مِّنكُمْ

among you

minkum

أَلْفٌۭ

a thousand

alfun

يَغْلِبُوٓا۟

they will overcome

yaghlibū

أَلْفَيْنِ

two thousand

alfayni

بِإِذْنِ

with (the) permission

bi-idh'ni

ٱللَّهِ ۗ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

مَعَ

(is) with

maʿa

ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ

the steadfast

l-ṣābirīna

٦٦

Now, Allāh has lightened [the hardship] for you, and He knows that among you is weakness. So if there are from you one hundred [who are] steadfast, they will overcome two hundred. And if there are among you a thousand, they will overcome two thousand by permission of Allāh. And Allāh is with the steadfast.

— Saheeh International

مَا

Not

كَانَ

is

kāna

لِنَبِىٍّ

for a Prophet

linabiyyin

أَن

that

an

يَكُونَ

(there) should be

yakūna

لَهُۥٓ

for him

lahu

أَسْرَىٰ

prisoners of war

asrā

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يُثْخِنَ

he has battled strenuously

yuth'khina

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

the land

l-arḍi

تُرِيدُونَ

You desire

turīdūna

عَرَضَ

(the) commodities

ʿaraḍa

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَٱللَّهُ

but Allah

wal-lahu

يُرِيدُ

desires

yurīdu

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۗ

(for you) the Hereafter

l-ākhirata

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

عَزِيزٌ

(is) All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

حَكِيمٌۭ

All-Wise

ḥakīmun

٦٧

It is not for a prophet to have captives [of war] until he inflicts a massacre [upon Allāh's enemies] in the land. You [i.e., some Muslims] desire the commodities of this world,1 but Allāh desires [for you] the Hereafter. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

— Saheeh International

لَّوْلَا

Had not

lawlā

كِتَـٰبٌۭ

an ordainment

kitābun

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

سَبَقَ

preceded

sabaqa

لَمَسَّكُمْ

surely (would) have touched you

lamassakum

فِيمَآ

for what

fīmā

أَخَذْتُمْ

you took

akhadhtum

عَذَابٌ

a punishment

ʿadhābun

عَظِيمٌۭ

great

ʿaẓīmun

٦٨

If not for a decree from Allāh that preceded,1 you would have been touched for what you took by a great punishment.

— Saheeh International

فَكُلُوا۟

So eat

fakulū

مِمَّا

from what

mimmā

غَنِمْتُمْ

you got as war booty

ghanim'tum

حَلَـٰلًۭا

lawful

ḥalālan

طَيِّبًۭا ۚ

(and) good

ṭayyiban

وَٱتَّقُوا۟

and fear

wa-ittaqū

ٱللَّهَ ۚ

Allah

l-laha

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

غَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٦٩

So consume what you have taken of war booty [as being] lawful and good, and fear Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O

yāayyuhā

ٱلنَّبِىُّ

Prophet

l-nabiyu

قُل

Say

qul

لِّمَن

to whoever

liman

فِىٓ

(is) in

أَيْدِيكُم

your hands

aydīkum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْأَسْرَىٰٓ

the captives

l-asrā

إِن

If

in

يَعْلَمِ

knows

yaʿlami

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

فِى

in

قُلُوبِكُمْ

your hearts

qulūbikum

خَيْرًۭا

any good

khayran

يُؤْتِكُمْ

He will give you

yu'tikum

خَيْرًۭا

better

khayran

مِّمَّآ

than what

mimmā

أُخِذَ

was taken

ukhidha

مِنكُمْ

from you

minkum

وَيَغْفِرْ

and He will forgive

wayaghfir

لَكُمْ ۗ

you

lakum

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

غَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٧٠

O Prophet, say to whoever is in your hands of the captives, "If Allāh knows [any] good in your hearts, He will give you [something] better than what was taken from you, and He will forgive you; and Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful."

— Saheeh International

وَإِن

But if

wa-in

يُرِيدُوا۟

they intend

yurīdū

خِيَانَتَكَ

(to) betray you

khiyānataka

فَقَدْ

certainly

faqad

خَانُوا۟

they have betrayed

khānū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

مِن

from

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

فَأَمْكَنَ

So He gave (you) power

fa-amkana

مِنْهُمْ ۗ

over them

min'hum

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

عَلِيمٌ

(is) All-Knower

ʿalīmun

حَكِيمٌ

All-Wise

ḥakīmun

٧١

But if they intend to betray you - then they have already betrayed Allāh before, and He empowered [you] over them. And Allāh is Knowing and Wise.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَهَاجَرُوا۟

and emigrated

wahājarū

وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟

and strove hard

wajāhadū

بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ

with their wealth

bi-amwālihim

وَأَنفُسِهِمْ

and their lives

wa-anfusihim

فِى

in

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَاوَوا۟

gave shelter

āwaw

وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟

and helped

wanaṣarū

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

أَوْلِيَآءُ

(are) allies

awliyāu

بَعْضٍۢ ۚ

(of) another

baʿḍin

وَٱلَّذِينَ

But those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَلَمْ

and (did) not

walam

يُهَاجِرُوا۟

emigrate

yuhājirū

مَا

(it is) not

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّن

(of)

min

وَلَـٰيَتِهِم

their protection

walāyatihim

مِّن

(in)

min

شَىْءٍ

(in) anything

shayin

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يُهَاجِرُوا۟ ۚ

they emigrate

yuhājirū

وَإِنِ

And if

wa-ini

ٱسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ

they seek your help

is'tanṣarūkum

فِى

in

ٱلدِّينِ

the religion

l-dīni

فَعَلَيْكُمُ

then upon you

faʿalaykumu

ٱلنَّصْرُ

(is to) help them

l-naṣru

إِلَّا

except

illā

عَلَىٰ

against

ʿalā

قَوْمٍۭ

a people

qawmin

بَيْنَكُمْ

between you

baynakum

وَبَيْنَهُم

and between them

wabaynahum

مِّيثَـٰقٌۭ ۗ

(is) a treaty

mīthāqun

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

بَصِيرٌۭ

(is) All-Seer

baṣīrun

٧٢

Indeed, those who have believed and emigrated and fought with their wealth and lives in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - they are allies of one another. But those who believed and did not emigrate - for you there is no support of them until they emigrate. And if they seek help of you for the religion, then you must help, except against a people between yourselves and whom is a treaty. And Allāh is Seeing of what you do.

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

أَوْلِيَآءُ

(are) allies

awliyāu

بَعْضٍ ۚ

(to) another

baʿḍin

إِلَّا

If not

illā

تَفْعَلُوهُ

you do it

tafʿalūhu

تَكُن

(there) will be

takun

فِتْنَةٌۭ

oppression

fit'natun

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَفَسَادٌۭ

and corruption

wafasādun

كَبِيرٌۭ

great

kabīrun

٧٣

And those who disbelieved are allies of one another. If you do not do so [i.e., ally yourselves with other believers], there will be fitnah [i.e., disbelief and oppression] on earth and great corruption.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَهَاجَرُوا۟

and emigrated

wahājarū

وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟

and strove hard

wajāhadū

فِى

in

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَٱلَّذِينَ

and those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَاوَوا۟

gave shelter

āwaw

وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟

and helped

wanaṣarū

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

هُمُ

they (are)

humu

ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ

the believers

l-mu'minūna

حَقًّۭا ۚ

(in) truth

ḥaqqan

لَّهُم

For them

lahum

مَّغْفِرَةٌۭ

(is) forgiveness

maghfiratun

وَرِزْقٌۭ

and a provision

wariz'qun

كَرِيمٌۭ

noble

karīmun

٧٤

But those who have believed and emigrated and fought in the cause of Allāh and those who gave shelter and aided - it is they who are the believers, truly. For them is forgiveness and noble provision.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

مِنۢ

from

min

بَعْدُ

afterwards

baʿdu

وَهَاجَرُوا۟

and emigrated

wahājarū

وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟

and strove hard

wajāhadū

مَعَكُمْ

with you

maʿakum

فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

then those

fa-ulāika

مِنكُمْ ۚ

(are) of you

minkum

وَأُو۟لُوا۟

But those

wa-ulū

ٱلْأَرْحَامِ

(of) blood relationship

l-arḥāmi

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

أَوْلَىٰ

(are) nearer

awlā

بِبَعْضٍۢ

to another

bibaʿḍin

فِى

in

كِتَـٰبِ

(the) Book

kitābi

ٱللَّهِ ۗ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

بِكُلِّ

of every

bikulli

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

عَلِيمٌۢ

(is) All-Knower

ʿalīmun

٧٥

And those who believed after [the initial emigration] and emigrated and fought with you - they are of you. But those of [blood] relationship are more entitled [to inheritance] in the decree of Allāh.1 Indeed, Allāh is Knowing of all things.
