وَقَطَّعْنَـٰهُمُ And We divided them waqaṭṭaʿnāhumu (into) two ith'natay (and) ten [i.e. twelve] ʿashrata tribes asbāṭan (as) communities umaman And We inspired wa-awḥaynā to ilā Musa mūsā when idhi asked him for water is'tasqāhu his people qawmuhu [that] ani Strike iḍ'rib with your staff biʿaṣāka the stone l-ḥajara Then gushed forth fa-inbajasat from it min'hu two ith'natā (and) ten [i.e. twelve] ʿashrata springs ʿaynan Certainly qad knew ʿalima each kullu people unāsin their drinking place mashrabahum And We shaded waẓallalnā [on] them ʿalayhimu (with) the clouds l-ghamāma and We sent down wa-anzalnā upon them ʿalayhimu the manna l-mana and the quails wal-salwā Eat kulū from min (the) good things ṭayyibāti which mā We have provided you razaqnākum And not wamā they wronged Us ẓalamūnā but walākin they were kānū (to) themselves anfusahum doing wrong yaẓlimūna
And We divided them into twelve descendant tribes1 [as distinct] nations. And We inspired to Moses when his people implored him for water, "Strike with your staff the stone," and there gushed forth from it twelve springs. Every people [i.e., tribe] knew its watering place. And We shaded them with clouds and sent down upon them manna and quails, [saying], "Eat from the good things with which We have provided you." And they wronged Us not, but they were [only] wronging themselves.
