نوح
إِنَّآ Indeed, We innā [We] sent arsalnā Nuh nūḥan to ilā his people qawmihi that an Warn andhir your people qawmaka from min before qabli [that] an comes to them yatiyahum a punishment ʿadhābun painful alīmun
Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."
قَالَ He said qāla O my people yāqawmi Indeed, I am innī to you lakum a warner nadhīrun clear mubīnun
He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner -
أَنِ That ani Worship uʿ'budū Allah l-laha and fear Him wa-ittaqūhu and obey me wa-aṭīʿūni
To worship Allāh, fear Him and obey me.
يَغْفِرْ He will forgive yaghfir for you lakum [of] min your sins dhunūbikum and give you respite wayu-akhir'kum for ilā a term ajalin specified musamman Indeed inna (the) term ajala (of) Allah l-lahi when idhā it comes jāa not lā is delayed yu-akharu if law you kuntum know taʿlamūna
He [i.e., Allāh] will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allāh, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew."
قَالَ He said qāla My Lord rabbi Indeed, I innī invited daʿawtu my people qawmī night laylan and day wanahāran
He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day.
فَلَمْ But not falam increased them yazid'hum my invitation duʿāī except illā (in) flight firāran
But my invitation increased them not except in flight [i.e., aversion].
وَإِنِّى And indeed, I wa-innī every time kullamā I invited them daʿawtuhum that You may forgive litaghfira them lahum they put jaʿalū their fingers aṣābiʿahum in fī their ears ādhānihim and covered themselves wa-is'taghshaw (with) their garments thiyābahum and persisted wa-aṣarrū and were arrogant wa-is'takbarū (with) pride is'tik'bāran
And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments,1 persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.
ثُمَّ Then thumma indeed, I innī invited them daʿawtuhum publicly jihāran
Then I invited them publicly.
ثُمَّ Then thumma indeed, I innī announced aʿlantu to them lahum and I confided wa-asrartu to them lahum secretly is'rāran
Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly
فَقُلْتُ Then I said faqul'tu Ask forgiveness is'taghfirū (from) your Lord rabbakum Indeed, He innahu is kāna Oft-Forgiving ghaffāran
And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.
يُرْسِلِ He will send down yur'sili (rain from) the sky l-samāa upon you ʿalaykum (in) abundance mid'rāran
He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers
وَيُمْدِدْكُم And provide you wayum'did'kum with wealth bi-amwālin and children wabanīna and make wayajʿal for you lakum gardens jannātin and make wayajʿal for you lakum rivers anhāran
And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.
مَّا What mā (is) for you lakum not lā you attribute tarjūna to Allah lillahi grandeur waqāran
What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allāh [due] grandeur
وَقَدْ And indeed waqad He created you khalaqakum (in) stages aṭwāran
While He has created you in stages?1
أَلَمْ Do not alam you see taraw how kayfa did create khalaqa Allah l-lahu (the) seven sabʿa heavens samāwātin (in) layers ṭibāqan
Do you not consider how Allāh has created seven heavens in layers1
وَجَعَلَ And made wajaʿala the moon l-qamara therein fīhinna a light nūran and made wajaʿala the sun l-shamsa a lamp sirājan
And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu has caused you to grow anbatakum from mina the earth l-arḍi (as) a growth nabātan
And Allāh has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth.
ثُمَّ Then thumma He will return you yuʿīdukum into it fīhā and bring you forth wayukh'rijukum (a new) bringing forth ikh'rājan
Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction.
وَٱللَّهُ And Allah wal-lahu made jaʿala for you lakumu the earth l-arḍa an expanse bisāṭan
And Allāh has made for you the earth an expanse
لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ That you may go along litaslukū therein min'hā (in) paths subulan wide fijājan
That you may follow therein roads of passage.'"
قَالَ Said qāla Nuh nūḥun My Lord rabbi Indeed, they innahum disobeyed me ʿaṣawnī and followed wa-ittabaʿū (the one) who man (did) not lam increase him yazid'hu his wealth māluhu and his children wawaladuhu except illā (in) loss khasāran
Noah said, "My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss.
وَمَكَرُوا۟ And they have planned wamakarū a plan makran great kubbāran
And they conspired an immense conspiracy
وَقَالُوا۟ And they said waqālū (Do) not lā leave tadharunna your gods ālihatakum and (do) not walā leave tadharunna Wadd waddan and not walā Suwa suwāʿan and not walā Yaguth yaghūtha and Yauq wayaʿūqa and Nasr wanasran
And said, 'Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwāʿ or Yaghūth and Yaʿūq and Nasr.'1
وَقَدْ And indeed waqad they have led astray aḍallū many kathīran And not walā increase tazidi the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna except illā (in) error ḍalālan
And already they have misled many. And, [my Lord], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error."
مِّمَّا Because of mimmā their sins khaṭīātihim they were drowned ugh'riqū then made to enter fa-ud'khilū (the) Fire nāran and not falam they found yajidū for themselves lahum from min besides dūni Allah l-lahi any helpers anṣāran
Because of their sins they were drowned and put into the Fire, and they found not for themselves besides Allāh [any] helpers.
وَقَالَ And said waqāla Nuh nūḥun My Lord rabbi (Do) not lā leave tadhar on ʿalā the earth l-arḍi any mina (of) the disbelievers l-kāfirīna (as) an inhabitant dayyāran
And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.
إِنَّكَ Indeed, You innaka if in You leave them tadharhum they will mislead yuḍillū Your slaves ʿibādaka and not walā they will beget yalidū except illā a wicked fājiran a disbeliever kaffāran
Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever.
رَّبِّ My Lord rabbi Forgive igh'fir me lī and my parents waliwālidayya and whoever waliman enters dakhala my house baytiya a believer mu'minan and the believing men walil'mu'minīna and the believing women wal-mu'mināti And (do) not walā increase tazidi the wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna except illā (in) destruction tabāran
My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction."
