Nūĥ

Noah

نوح

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

innā

أَرْسَلْنَا

[We] sent

arsalnā

نُوحًا

Nuh

nūḥan

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

قَوْمِهِۦٓ

his people

qawmihi

أَنْ

that

an

أَنذِرْ

Warn

andhir

قَوْمَكَ

your people

qawmaka

مِن

from

min

قَبْلِ

before

qabli

أَن

[that]

an

يَأْتِيَهُمْ

comes to them

yatiyahum

عَذَابٌ

a punishment

ʿadhābun

أَلِيمٌۭ

painful

alīmun

١

Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

إِنِّى

Indeed, I am

innī

لَكُمْ

to you

lakum

نَذِيرٌۭ

a warner

nadhīrun

مُّبِينٌ

clear

mubīnun

٢

He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner -

— Saheeh International

أَنِ

That

ani

ٱعْبُدُوا۟

Worship

uʿ'budū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَٱتَّقُوهُ

and fear Him

wa-ittaqūhu

وَأَطِيعُونِ

and obey me

wa-aṭīʿūni

٣

To worship Allāh, fear Him and obey me.

— Saheeh International

يَغْفِرْ

He will forgive

yaghfir

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّن

[of]

min

ذُنُوبِكُمْ

your sins

dhunūbikum

وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ

and give you respite

wayu-akhir'kum

إِلَىٰٓ

for

ilā

أَجَلٍۢ

a term

ajalin

مُّسَمًّى ۚ

specified

musamman

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

أَجَلَ

(the) term

ajala

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءَ

it comes

jāa

لَا

not

يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ

is delayed

yu-akharu

لَوْ

if

law

كُنتُمْ

you

kuntum

تَعْلَمُونَ

know

taʿlamūna

٤

He [i.e., Allāh] will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allāh, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew."

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

He said

qāla

رَبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

إِنِّى

Indeed, I

innī

دَعَوْتُ

invited

daʿawtu

قَوْمِى

my people

qawmī

لَيْلًۭا

night

laylan

وَنَهَارًۭا

and day

wanahāran

٥

He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day.

— Saheeh International

فَلَمْ

But not

falam

يَزِدْهُمْ

increased them

yazid'hum

دُعَآءِىٓ

my invitation

duʿāī

إِلَّا

except

illā

فِرَارًۭا

(in) flight

firāran

٦

But my invitation increased them not except in flight [i.e., aversion].

— Saheeh International

وَإِنِّى

And indeed, I

wa-innī

كُلَّمَا

every time

kullamā

دَعَوْتُهُمْ

I invited them

daʿawtuhum

لِتَغْفِرَ

that You may forgive

litaghfira

لَهُمْ

them

lahum

جَعَلُوٓا۟

they put

jaʿalū

أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ

their fingers

aṣābiʿahum

فِىٓ

in

ءَاذَانِهِمْ

their ears

ādhānihim

وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟

and covered themselves

wa-is'taghshaw

ثِيَابَهُمْ

(with) their garments

thiyābahum

وَأَصَرُّوا۟

and persisted

wa-aṣarrū

وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟

and were arrogant

wa-is'takbarū

ٱسْتِكْبَارًۭا

(with) pride

is'tik'bāran

٧

And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments,1 persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِنِّى

indeed, I

innī

دَعَوْتُهُمْ

invited them

daʿawtuhum

جِهَارًۭا

publicly

jihāran

٨

Then I invited them publicly.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِنِّىٓ

indeed, I

innī

أَعْلَنتُ

announced

aʿlantu

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

وَأَسْرَرْتُ

and I confided

wa-asrartu

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

إِسْرَارًۭا

secretly

is'rāran

٩

Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly

— Saheeh International

فَقُلْتُ

Then I said

faqul'tu

ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟

Ask forgiveness

is'taghfirū

رَبَّكُمْ

(from) your Lord

rabbakum

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, He

innahu

كَانَ

is

kāna

غَفَّارًۭا

Oft-Forgiving

ghaffāran

١٠

And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver.

— Saheeh International

يُرْسِلِ

He will send down

yur'sili

ٱلسَّمَآءَ

(rain from) the sky

l-samāa

عَلَيْكُم

upon you

ʿalaykum

مِّدْرَارًۭا

(in) abundance

mid'rāran

١١

He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers

— Saheeh International

وَيُمْدِدْكُم

And provide you

wayum'did'kum

بِأَمْوَٰلٍۢ

with wealth

bi-amwālin

وَبَنِينَ

and children

wabanīna

وَيَجْعَل

and make

wayajʿal

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

جَنَّـٰتٍۢ

gardens

jannātin

وَيَجْعَل

and make

wayajʿal

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

أَنْهَـٰرًۭا

rivers

anhāran

١٢

And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.

— Saheeh International

مَّا

What

لَكُمْ

(is) for you

lakum

لَا

not

تَرْجُونَ

you attribute

tarjūna

لِلَّهِ

to Allah

lillahi

وَقَارًۭا

grandeur

waqāran

١٣

What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allāh [due] grandeur

— Saheeh International

وَقَدْ

And indeed

waqad

خَلَقَكُمْ

He created you

khalaqakum

أَطْوَارًا

(in) stages

aṭwāran

١٤

While He has created you in stages?1

— Saheeh International

أَلَمْ

Do not

alam

تَرَوْا۟

you see

taraw

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

خَلَقَ

did create

khalaqa

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

سَبْعَ

(the) seven

sabʿa

سَمَـٰوَٰتٍۢ

heavens

samāwātin

طِبَاقًۭا

(in) layers

ṭibāqan

١٥

Do you not consider how Allāh has created seven heavens in layers1

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلَ

And made

wajaʿala

ٱلْقَمَرَ

the moon

l-qamara

فِيهِنَّ

therein

fīhinna

نُورًۭا

a light

nūran

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

ٱلشَّمْسَ

the sun

l-shamsa

سِرَاجًۭا

a lamp

sirājan

١٦

And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp?

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

أَنۢبَتَكُم

has caused you to grow

anbatakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

نَبَاتًۭا

(as) a growth

nabātan

١٧

And Allāh has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

يُعِيدُكُمْ

He will return you

yuʿīdukum

فِيهَا

into it

fīhā

وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ

and bring you forth

wayukh'rijukum

إِخْرَاجًۭا

(a new) bringing forth

ikh'rājan

١٨

Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction.

— Saheeh International

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

بِسَاطًۭا

an expanse

bisāṭan

١٩

And Allāh has made for you the earth an expanse

— Saheeh International

لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟

That you may go along

litaslukū

مِنْهَا

therein

min'hā

سُبُلًۭا

(in) paths

subulan

فِجَاجًۭا

wide

fijājan

٢٠

That you may follow therein roads of passage.'"

— Saheeh International

قَالَ

Said

qāla

نُوحٌۭ

Nuh

nūḥun

رَّبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

عَصَوْنِى

disobeyed me

ʿaṣawnī

وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟

and followed

wa-ittabaʿū

مَن

(the one) who

man

لَّمْ

(did) not

lam

يَزِدْهُ

increase him

yazid'hu

مَالُهُۥ

his wealth

māluhu

وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ

and his children

wawaladuhu

إِلَّا

except

illā

خَسَارًۭا

(in) loss

khasāran

٢١

Noah said, "My Lord, indeed they have disobeyed me and followed him whose wealth and children will not increase him except in loss.

— Saheeh International

وَمَكَرُوا۟

And they have planned

wamakarū

مَكْرًۭا

a plan

makran

كُبَّارًۭا

great

kubbāran

٢٢

And they conspired an immense conspiracy

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they said

waqālū

لَا

(Do) not

تَذَرُنَّ

leave

tadharunna

ءَالِهَتَكُمْ

your gods

ālihatakum

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَذَرُنَّ

leave

tadharunna

وَدًّۭا

Wadd

waddan

وَلَا

and not

walā

سُوَاعًۭا

Suwa

suwāʿan

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَغُوثَ

Yaguth

yaghūtha

وَيَعُوقَ

and Yauq

wayaʿūqa

وَنَسْرًۭا

and Nasr

wanasran

٢٣

And said, 'Never leave your gods and never leave Wadd or Suwāʿ or Yaghūth and Yaʿūq and Nasr.'1

— Saheeh International

وَقَدْ

And indeed

waqad

أَضَلُّوا۟

they have led astray

aḍallū

كَثِيرًۭا ۖ

many

kathīran

وَلَا

And not

walā

تَزِدِ

increase

tazidi

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

إِلَّا

except

illā

ضَلَـٰلًۭا

(in) error

ḍalālan

٢٤

And already they have misled many. And, [my Lord], do not increase the wrongdoers except in error."

— Saheeh International

مِّمَّا

Because of

mimmā

خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْ

their sins

khaṭīātihim

أُغْرِقُوا۟

they were drowned

ugh'riqū

فَأُدْخِلُوا۟

then made to enter

fa-ud'khilū

نَارًۭا

(the) Fire

nāran

فَلَمْ

and not

falam

يَجِدُوا۟

they found

yajidū

لَهُم

for themselves

lahum

مِّن

from

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

أَنصَارًۭا

any helpers

anṣāran

٢٥

Because of their sins they were drowned and put into the Fire, and they found not for themselves besides Allāh [any] helpers.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالَ

And said

waqāla

نُوحٌۭ

Nuh

nūḥun

رَّبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

لَا

(Do) not

تَذَرْ

leave

tadhar

عَلَى

on

ʿalā

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

مِنَ

any

mina

ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

(of) the disbelievers

l-kāfirīna

دَيَّارًا

(as) an inhabitant

dayyāran

٢٦

And Noah said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth from among the disbelievers an inhabitant.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, You

innaka

إِن

if

in

تَذَرْهُمْ

You leave them

tadharhum

يُضِلُّوا۟

they will mislead

yuḍillū

عِبَادَكَ

Your slaves

ʿibādaka

وَلَا

and not

walā

يَلِدُوٓا۟

they will beget

yalidū

إِلَّا

except

illā

فَاجِرًۭا

a wicked

fājiran

كَفَّارًۭا

a disbeliever

kaffāran

٢٧

Indeed, if You leave them, they will mislead Your servants and not beget except [every] wicked one and [confirmed] disbeliever.

— Saheeh International

رَّبِّ

My Lord

rabbi

ٱغْفِرْ

Forgive

igh'fir

لِى

me

وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ

and my parents

waliwālidayya

وَلِمَن

and whoever

waliman

دَخَلَ

enters

dakhala

بَيْتِىَ

my house

baytiya

مُؤْمِنًۭا

a believer

mu'minan

وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

and the believing men

walil'mu'minīna

وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ

and the believing women

wal-mu'mināti

وَلَا

And (do) not

walā

تَزِدِ

increase

tazidi

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

إِلَّا

except

illā

تَبَارًۢا

(in) destruction

tabāran

٢٨

My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women. And do not increase the wrongdoers except in destruction."

— Saheeh International
