وَإِذْ And when wa-idh (was) taken akhadha (by) your Lord rabbuka from min (the) Children banī (of) Adam ādama from min their loins ẓuhūrihim their descendants dhurriyyatahum and made them testify wa-ashhadahum over ʿalā themselves anfusihim Am I not alastu your Lord birabbikum They said qālū Yes balā we have testified shahid'nā Lest an you say taqūlū (on the) Day yawma (of) the Resurrection l-qiyāmati Indeed innā we were kunnā about ʿan this hādhā unaware ghāfilīna
And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."
أَوْ Or aw you say taqūlū Only innamā partners (were) associated (with Allah) ashraka (by) our forefathers ābāunā from min before (us) qablu and we are wakunnā descendants dhurriyyatan from min after them baʿdihim So will You destroy us afatuh'likunā for what bimā did faʿala the falsifiers l-mub'ṭilūna
Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allāh before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?"
