أَسْكِنُوهُنَّ Lodge them askinūhunna from min where ḥaythu you dwell sakantum (out) of min your means wuj'dikum and (do) not walā harm them tuḍārrūhunna to distress lituḍayyiqū [on] them ʿalayhinna And if wa-in they are kunna those (who are) ulāti pregnant ḥamlin then spend fa-anfiqū on them ʿalayhinna until ḥattā they deliver yaḍaʿna their burden ḥamlahunna Then if fa-in they suckle arḍaʿna for you lakum then give them faātūhunna their payment ujūrahunna and consult watamirū among yourselves baynakum with kindness bimaʿrūfin but if wa-in you disagree taʿāsartum then may suckle fasatur'ḍiʿu for him lahu another (women) ukh'rā
Lodge them [in a section] of where you dwell out of your means and do not harm them in order to oppress them. And if they should be pregnant, then spend on them until they give birth. And if they breastfeed for you, then give them their payment and confer among yourselves in the acceptable way; but if you are in discord, then there may breastfeed for him [i.e., the father] another woman.
لِيُنفِقْ Let spend liyunfiq owner dhū (of) ample means saʿatin from min his ample means saʿatihi and (he) who waman is restricted qudira on him ʿalayhi his provision riz'quhu let him spend falyunfiq from what mimmā he has been given ātāhu (by) Allah l-lahu Does not lā burden yukallifu Allah l-lahu any soul nafsan except illā (with) what mā He has given it ātāhā Will bring about sayajʿalu Allah l-lahu after baʿda hardship ʿus'rin ease yus'ran
Let a man of wealth spend from his wealth, and he whose provision is restricted - let him spend from what Allāh has given him. Allāh does not charge a soul except [according to] what He has given it. Allāh will bring about, after hardship, ease [i.e., relief].
