مِنْ From min time ajli that dhālika We ordained katabnā on ʿalā (the) Children banī (of) Israel is'rāīla that he annahu who man kills qatala a soul nafsan other than bighayri (for) a soul nafsin or aw (for) spreading corruption fasādin in fī the earth l-arḍi then (it) is as if faka-annamā he has killed qatala mankind l-nāsa all jamīʿan and whoever waman saves it aḥyāhā then (it) is as if faka-annamā he has saved aḥyā mankind l-nāsa all jamīʿan And surely walaqad came to them jāathum Our Messengers rusulunā with clear Signs bil-bayināti yet thumma indeed inna many kathīran of them min'hum after baʿda that dhālika in fī the earth l-arḍi (are) surely those who commit excesses lamus'rifūna
Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul1 or for corruption [done] in the land2 - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one3 - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And Our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.4
