سَبَّحَ Glorifies sabbaḥa [to] Allah lillahi whatever mā (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and He wahuwa (is) the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu
Whatever is in the heavens and earth exalts Allāh,1 and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
لَهُۥ For Him lahu (is the) dominion mul'ku (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi He gives life yuḥ'yī and causes death wayumītu and He wahuwa (is) over ʿalā all kulli things shayin All-Powerful qadīrun
His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent.
هُوَ He huwa (is) the First l-awalu and the Last wal-ākhiru and the Apparent wal-ẓāhiru and the Unapparent wal-bāṭinu and He wahuwa (is) of every bikulli thing shayin All-Knower ʿalīmun
He is the First1 and the Last,2 the Ascendant3 and the Intimate,4 and He is, of all things, Knowing.
هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī created khalaqa the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍa in fī six sittati periods ayyāmin then thumma He rose is'tawā over ʿalā the Throne l-ʿarshi He knows yaʿlamu what mā penetrates yaliju in(to) fī the earth l-arḍi and what wamā comes forth yakhruju from it min'hā and what wamā descends yanzilu from mina the heaven l-samāi and what wamā ascends yaʿruju therein fīhā and He wahuwa (is) with you maʿakum wherever ayna wherever mā you are kuntum And Allah wal-lahu of what bimā you do taʿmalūna (is) All-seer baṣīrun
It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne.1 He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you2 wherever you are. And Allāh, of what you do, is Seeing.
لَّهُۥ For Him lahu (is the) dominion mul'ku (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and to wa-ilā Allah l-lahi will be returned tur'jaʿu the matters l-umūru
His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. And to Allāh are returned [all] matters.
يُولِجُ He merges yūliju the night al-layla into fī the day l-nahāri and He merges wayūliju the day l-nahāra into fī the night al-layli and He wahuwa (is) All-Knower ʿalīmun of what is in the breasts bidhāti of what is in the breasts l-ṣudūri
He causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night, and He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
ءَامِنُوا۟ Believe āminū in Allah bil-lahi and His Messenger warasūlihi and spend wa-anfiqū of what mimmā He has made you jaʿalakum trustees mus'takhlafīna therein fīhi And those fa-alladhīna who believe āmanū among you minkum and spend wa-anfaqū for them lahum (is) a reward ajrun great kabīrun
Believe in Allāh and His Messenger and spend out of that in which He has made you successive inheritors. For those who have believed among you and spent,1 there will be a great reward.
وَمَا And what wamā (is) for you lakum (that) not lā you believe tu'minūna in Allah bil-lahi while the Messenger wal-rasūlu calls you yadʿūkum that you believe litu'minū in your Lord birabbikum and indeed waqad He has taken akhadha your covenant mīthāqakum if in you are kuntum believers mu'minīna
And why do you not believe in Allāh while the Messenger invites you to believe in your Lord and He has taken your covenant, if you should [truly] be believers?
هُوَ He huwa (is) the One Who alladhī sends down yunazzilu upon ʿalā His slave ʿabdihi Verses āyātin clear bayyinātin that He may bring you out liyukh'rijakum from mina the darkness[es] l-ẓulumāti into ilā the light l-nūri And indeed wa-inna Allah l-laha to you bikum (is the) Most Kind laraūfun (the) Most Merciful raḥīmun
It is He who sends down upon His Servant [Muḥammad (ﷺ)] verses of clear evidence that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And indeed, Allāh is to you Kind and Merciful.
وَمَا And what wamā (is) for you lakum that not allā you spend tunfiqū in fī (the) way sabīli (of) Allah l-lahi while for Allah walillahi (is the) heritage mīrāthu (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi Not lā are equal yastawī among you minkum (those) who man spent anfaqa before min before qabli the victory l-fatḥi and fought waqātala Those ulāika (are) greater aʿẓamu (in) degree darajatan than mina those who alladhīna spent anfaqū afterwards min afterwards baʿdu and fought waqātalū But to all wakullan Allah has promised waʿada Allah has promised l-lahu the best l-ḥus'nā And Allah wal-lahu of what bimā you do taʿmalūna (is) All-Aware khabīrun
And why do you not spend in the cause of Allāh while to Allāh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? Not equal among you are those who spent before the conquest [of Makkah] and fought [and those who did so after it]. Those are greater in degree than they who spent afterwards and fought. But to all Allāh has promised the best [reward]. And Allāh, of what you do, is Aware.
مَّن Who (is) man the one who dhā the one who alladhī will loan yuq'riḍu (to) Allah l-laha a loan qarḍan goodly ḥasanan so He will multiply it fayuḍāʿifahu for him lahu and for him walahu (is) a reward ajrun noble karīmun
Who is it that would loan Allāh a goodly loan so He will multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward?
يَوْمَ (On the) Day yawma you will see tarā the believing men l-mu'minīna and the believing women wal-mu'mināti running yasʿā their light nūruhum before them bayna before them aydīhim and on their right wabi-aymānihim Glad tidings for you bush'rākumu this Day l-yawma gardens jannātun flowing tajrī from min underneath it taḥtihā the rivers l-anhāru abiding forever khālidīna therein fīhā That dhālika [it] (is) huwa the success l-fawzu the great l-ʿaẓīmu
On the Day you see the believing men and believing women, their light proceeding before them and on their right, [it will be said], "Your good tidings today are [of] gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein you will abide eternally." That is what is the great attainment.
يَوْمَ (On the) Day yawma will say yaqūlu the hypocrite men l-munāfiqūna and the hypocrite women wal-munāfiqātu to those who lilladhīna believed āmanū Wait for us unẓurūnā we may acquire naqtabis of min your light nūrikum It will be said qīla Go back ir'jiʿū behind you warāakum and seek fal-tamisū light nūran Then will be put up faḍuriba between them baynahum a wall bisūrin for it lahu a gate bābun its interior bāṭinuhu in it fīhi (is) mercy l-raḥmatu but its exterior waẓāhiruhu facing towards [it] min facing towards [it] qibalihi the punishment l-ʿadhābu
On the [same] Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed, "Wait for us that we may acquire some of your light." It will be said, "Go back behind you1 and seek light." And a wall will be placed between them with a door, its interior containing mercy, but on the outside of it is torment.
يُنَادُونَهُمْ They will call them yunādūnahum Were not alam we nakun with you maʿakum They will say qālū Yes balā but you walākinnakum led to temptation fatantum yourselves anfusakum and you awaited watarabbaṣtum and you doubted wa-ir'tabtum and deceived you wagharratkumu the wishful thinking l-amāniyu until ḥattā came jāa (the) Command amru (of) Allah l-lahi And deceived you wagharrakum about Allah bil-lahi the deceiver l-gharūru
They [i.e., the hypocrites] will call to them [i.e., the believers], "Were we not with you?" They will say, "Yes, but you afflicted yourselves1 and awaited [misfortune for us] and doubted, and wishful thinking deluded you until there came the command of Allāh. And the Deceiver [i.e., Satan] deceived you concerning Allāh.
فَٱلْيَوْمَ So today fal-yawma not lā will be accepted yu'khadhu from you minkum any ransom fid'yatun and not walā from mina those who alladhīna disbelieved kafarū Your abode mawākumu (is) the Fire l-nāru it (is) hiya your protector mawlākum and wretched is wabi'sa the destination l-maṣīru
So today no ransom will be taken from you or from those who disbelieved. Your refuge is the Fire. It is most worthy of you, and wretched is the destination."
۞ أَلَمْ Has not alam come (the) time yani for those who lilladhīna believed āmanū that an become humble takhshaʿa their hearts qulūbuhum at (the) remembrance (of) Allah lidhik'ri at (the) remembrance (of) Allah l-lahi and what wamā has come down nazala of mina the truth l-ḥaqi And not walā they become yakūnū like those who ka-alladhīna were given ūtū the Book l-kitāba before min before qablu (and) was prolonged faṭāla for them ʿalayhimu the term l-amadu so hardened faqasat their hearts qulūbuhum and many wakathīrun of them min'hum (are) defiantly disobedient fāsiqūna
Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allāh and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.
ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ Know iʿ'lamū that anna Allah l-laha gives life yuḥ'yī (to) the earth l-arḍa after baʿda its death mawtihā Indeed qad We have made clear bayyannā to you lakumu the Signs l-āyāti so that you may laʿallakum understand taʿqilūna
Know that Allāh gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. We have made clear to you the signs; perhaps you will understand.1
إِنَّ Indeed inna the men who give charity l-muṣadiqīna and the women who give charity wal-muṣadiqāti and who lend wa-aqraḍū (to) Allah l-laha a loan qarḍan goodly ḥasanan it will be multiplied yuḍāʿafu for them lahum and for them walahum (is) a reward ajrun noble karīmun
Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allāh a goodly loan - it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna believe āmanū in Allah bil-lahi and His Messengers warusulihi [those] ulāika they humu (are) the truthful l-ṣidīqūna and the martyrs wal-shuhadāu (are) with ʿinda their Lord rabbihim For them lahum (is) their reward ajruhum and their light wanūruhum But those who wa-alladhīna disbelieve kafarū and deny wakadhabū Our Verses biāyātinā those ulāika (are the) companions aṣḥābu (of) the Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
And those who have believed in Allāh and His messengers - those are [in the ranks of] the supporters of truth and the martyrs, with their Lord. For them is their reward and their light.1 But those who have disbelieved and denied Our verses - those are the companions of Hellfire.
ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ Know iʿ'lamū that annamā the life l-ḥayatu (of) the world l-dun'yā (is) play laʿibun and amusement walahwun and adornment wazīnatun and boasting watafākhurun among you baynakum and competition in increase watakāthurun of fī the wealth l-amwāli and the children wal-awlādi like (the) example kamathali (of) a rain ghaythin pleases aʿjaba the tillers l-kufāra its growth nabātuhu then thumma it dries yahīju and you see it fatarāhu turning yellow muṣ'farran then thumma becomes yakūnu debris ḥuṭāman And in wafī the Hereafter l-ākhirati (is) a punishment ʿadhābun severe shadīdun and forgiveness wamaghfiratun from mina Allah l-lahi and Pleasure wariḍ'wānun But not wamā (is) the life l-ḥayatu (of) the world l-dun'yā except illā (the) enjoyment matāʿu (of) delusion l-ghurūri
Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allāh and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion.
سَابِقُوٓا۟ Race sābiqū to ilā (the) forgiveness maghfiratin from min your Lord rabbikum and a Garden wajannatin its width ʿarḍuhā (is) like (the) width kaʿarḍi (of) the heaven l-samāi and the earth wal-arḍi prepared uʿiddat for those who lilladhīna believe āmanū in Allah bil-lahi and His Messengers warusulihi That dhālika (is the) Bounty faḍlu (of) Allah l-lahi He gives yu'tīhi (to) whom man He wills yashāu And Allah wal-lahu (is) the Possessor of Bounty dhū (is) the Possessor of Bounty l-faḍli the Great l-ʿaẓīmi
Race [i.e., compete] toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth, prepared for those who believed in Allāh and His messengers. That is the bounty of Allāh which He gives to whom He wills, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
مَآ Not mā strikes aṣāba any min disaster muṣībatin in fī the earth l-arḍi and not walā in fī yourselves anfusikum but illā in fī a Register kitābin before min before qabli that an We bring it into existence nabra-ahā Indeed inna that dhālika for ʿalā Allah l-lahi (is) easy yasīrun
No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register1 before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allāh, is easy -
لِّكَيْلَا So that you may not likaylā grieve tasaw over ʿalā what mā has escaped you fātakum and (do) not walā exult tafraḥū at what bimā He has given you ātākum And Allah wal-lahu (does) not lā love yuḥibbu every kulla self-deluded mukh'tālin boaster fakhūrin
In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful -
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna are stingy yabkhalūna and enjoin wayamurūna (on) the people l-nāsa stinginess bil-bukh'li And whoever waman turns away yatawalla then indeed fa-inna Allah l-laha He huwa (is) Free of need l-ghaniyu the Praiseworthy l-ḥamīdu
[Those] who are stingy and enjoin upon people stinginess. And whoever turns away1 - then indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad We sent arsalnā Our Messengers rusulanā with clear proofs bil-bayināti and We sent down wa-anzalnā with them maʿahumu the Scripture l-kitāba and the Balance wal-mīzāna that may establish liyaqūma the people l-nāsu justice bil-qis'ṭi And We sent down wa-anzalnā [the] iron l-ḥadīda wherein fīhi (is) power basun mighty shadīdun and benefits wamanāfiʿu for the people lilnnāsi and so that Allah may make evident waliyaʿlama and so that Allah may make evident l-lahu (he) who man helps Him yanṣuruhu and His Messengers warusulahu unseen bil-ghaybi Indeed inna Allah l-laha (is) All-Strong qawiyyun All-Mighty ʿazīzun
We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people, and so that Allāh may make evident those who support Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and Exalted in Might.
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We sent arsalnā Nuh nūḥan and Ibrahim wa-ib'rāhīma and We placed wajaʿalnā in fī their offspring dhurriyyatihimā Prophethood l-nubuwata and the Scripture wal-kitāba and among them famin'hum (is) a guided one muh'tadin but most wakathīrun of them min'hum (are) defiantly disobediently fāsiqūna
And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture; and among them is he who is guided, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
ثُمَّ Then thumma We sent qaffaynā on ʿalā their footsteps āthārihim Our Messengers birusulinā and We followed waqaffaynā with Isa biʿīsā son ib'ni (of) Maryam maryama and We gave him waātaynāhu the Injeel l-injīla And We placed wajaʿalnā in fī (the) hearts qulūbi (of) those who alladhīna followed him ittabaʿūhu compassion rafatan and mercy waraḥmatan But monasticism warahbāniyyatan they innovated ib'tadaʿūhā not mā We prescribed it katabnāhā for them ʿalayhim only illā seeking ib'tighāa (the) pleasure riḍ'wāni (of) Allah l-lahi but not famā they observed it raʿawhā (with) right ḥaqqa observance riʿāyatihā So We gave faātaynā those who alladhīna believed āmanū among them min'hum their reward ajrahum but most wakathīrun of them min'hum (are) defiantly disobediently fāsiqūna
Then We sent following their footsteps [i.e., traditions] Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allāh. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا O you who believe yāayyuhā O you who believe alladhīna O you who believe āmanū Fear ittaqū Allah l-laha and believe waāminū in His Messenger birasūlihi He will give you yu'tikum double portion kif'layni of min His Mercy raḥmatihi and He will make wayajʿal for you lakum a light nūran you will walk tamshūna with it bihi and He will forgive wayaghfir you lakum And Allah wal-lahu (is) Oft-Forgiving ghafūrun Most Merciful raḥīmun
O you who have believed, fear Allāh and believe in His Messenger; He will [then] give you a double portion of His mercy and make for you a light by which you will walk and forgive you; and Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
لِّئَلَّا So that li-allā may know yaʿlama (the) People ahlu (of) the Book l-kitābi that not allā they have power yaqdirūna over ʿalā anything shayin from min (the) Bounty faḍli (of) Allah l-lahi and that wa-anna the Bounty l-faḍla (is) in Allah's Hand biyadi (is) in Allah's Hand l-lahi He gives it yu'tīhi whom man He wills yashāu And Allah wal-lahu (is) the Possessor of Bounty dhū (is) the Possessor of Bounty l-faḍli the Great l-ʿaẓīmi
[This is] so that the People of the Scripture may know that they are not able [to obtain] anything from the bounty of Allāh1 and that [all] bounty is in the hand2 of Allāh; He gives it to whom He wills. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.
