Al-Ĥadīd

The Iron

الحديد

سَبَّحَ

Glorifies

sabbaḥa

لِلَّهِ

[to] Allah

lillahi

مَا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(is) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

١

Whatever is in the heavens and earth exalts Allāh,1 and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International

لَهُۥ

For Him

lahu

مُلْكُ

(is the) dominion

mul'ku

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

يُحْىِۦ

He gives life

yuḥ'yī

وَيُمِيتُ ۖ

and causes death

wayumītu

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

عَلَىٰ

(is) over

ʿalā

كُلِّ

all

kulli

شَىْءٍۢ

things

shayin

قَدِيرٌ

All-Powerful

qadīrun

٢

His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things competent.

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْأَوَّلُ

(is) the First

l-awalu

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرُ

and the Last

wal-ākhiru

وَٱلظَّـٰهِرُ

and the Apparent

wal-ẓāhiru

وَٱلْبَاطِنُ ۖ

and the Unapparent

wal-bāṭinu

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

بِكُلِّ

(is) of every

bikulli

شَىْءٍ

thing

shayin

عَلِيمٌ

All-Knower

ʿalīmun

٣

He is the First1 and the Last,2 the Ascendant3 and the Intimate,4 and He is, of all things, Knowing.

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

فِى

in

سِتَّةِ

six

sittati

أَيَّامٍۢ

periods

ayyāmin

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

ٱسْتَوَىٰ

He rose

is'tawā

عَلَى

over

ʿalā

ٱلْعَرْشِ ۚ

the Throne

l-ʿarshi

يَعْلَمُ

He knows

yaʿlamu

مَا

what

يَلِجُ

penetrates

yaliju

فِى

in(to)

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يَخْرُجُ

comes forth

yakhruju

مِنْهَا

from it

min'hā

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يَنزِلُ

descends

yanzilu

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heaven

l-samāi

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يَعْرُجُ

ascends

yaʿruju

فِيهَا ۖ

therein

fīhā

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

مَعَكُمْ

(is) with you

maʿakum

أَيْنَ

wherever

ayna

مَا

wherever

كُنتُمْ ۚ

you are

kuntum

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

بَصِيرٌۭ

(is) All-seer

baṣīrun

٤

It is He who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne.1 He knows what penetrates into the earth and what emerges from it and what descends from the heaven and what ascends therein; and He is with you2 wherever you are. And Allāh, of what you do, is Seeing.

— Saheeh International

لَّهُۥ

For Him

lahu

مُلْكُ

(is the) dominion

mul'ku

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَإِلَى

and to

wa-ilā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

تُرْجَعُ

will be returned

tur'jaʿu

ٱلْأُمُورُ

the matters

l-umūru

٥

His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. And to Allāh are returned [all] matters.

— Saheeh International

يُولِجُ

He merges

yūliju

ٱلَّيْلَ

the night

al-layla

فِى

into

ٱلنَّهَارِ

the day

l-nahāri

وَيُولِجُ

and He merges

wayūliju

ٱلنَّهَارَ

the day

l-nahāra

فِى

into

ٱلَّيْلِ ۚ

the night

al-layli

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

عَلِيمٌۢ

(is) All-Knower

ʿalīmun

بِذَاتِ

of what is in the breasts

bidhāti

ٱلصُّدُورِ

of what is in the breasts

l-ṣudūri

٦

He causes the night to enter the day and causes the day to enter the night, and He is Knowing of that within the breasts.

— Saheeh International

ءَامِنُوا۟

Believe

āminū

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَرَسُولِهِۦ

and His Messenger

warasūlihi

وَأَنفِقُوا۟

and spend

wa-anfiqū

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

جَعَلَكُم

He has made you

jaʿalakum

مُّسْتَخْلَفِينَ

trustees

mus'takhlafīna

فِيهِ ۖ

therein

fīhi

فَٱلَّذِينَ

And those

fa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

who believe

āmanū

مِنكُمْ

among you

minkum

وَأَنفَقُوا۟

and spend

wa-anfaqū

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

أَجْرٌۭ

(is) a reward

ajrun

كَبِيرٌۭ

great

kabīrun

٧

Believe in Allāh and His Messenger and spend out of that in which He has made you successive inheritors. For those who have believed among you and spent,1 there will be a great reward.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And what

wamā

لَكُمْ

(is) for you

lakum

لَا

(that) not

تُؤْمِنُونَ

you believe

tu'minūna

بِٱللَّهِ ۙ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَٱلرَّسُولُ

while the Messenger

wal-rasūlu

يَدْعُوكُمْ

calls you

yadʿūkum

لِتُؤْمِنُوا۟

that you believe

litu'minū

بِرَبِّكُمْ

in your Lord

birabbikum

وَقَدْ

and indeed

waqad

أَخَذَ

He has taken

akhadha

مِيثَـٰقَكُمْ

your covenant

mīthāqakum

إِن

if

in

كُنتُم

you are

kuntum

مُّؤْمِنِينَ

believers

mu'minīna

٨

And why do you not believe in Allāh while the Messenger invites you to believe in your Lord and He has taken your covenant, if you should [truly] be believers?

— Saheeh International

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

يُنَزِّلُ

sends down

yunazzilu

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

عَبْدِهِۦٓ

His slave

ʿabdihi

ءَايَـٰتٍۭ

Verses

āyātin

بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ

clear

bayyinātin

لِّيُخْرِجَكُم

that He may bring you out

liyukh'rijakum

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ

the darkness[es]

l-ẓulumāti

إِلَى

into

ilā

ٱلنُّورِ ۚ

the light

l-nūri

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

بِكُمْ

to you

bikum

لَرَءُوفٌۭ

(is the) Most Kind

laraūfun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

(the) Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٩

It is He who sends down upon His Servant [Muḥammad (ﷺ)] verses of clear evidence that He may bring you out from darknesses into the light. And indeed, Allāh is to you Kind and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And what

wamā

لَكُمْ

(is) for you

lakum

أَلَّا

that not

allā

تُنفِقُوا۟

you spend

tunfiqū

فِى

in

سَبِيلِ

(the) way

sabīli

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَلِلَّهِ

while for Allah

walillahi

مِيرَٰثُ

(is the) heritage

mīrāthu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

لَا

Not

يَسْتَوِى

are equal

yastawī

مِنكُم

among you

minkum

مَّنْ

(those) who

man

أَنفَقَ

spent

anfaqa

مِن

before

min

قَبْلِ

before

qabli

ٱلْفَتْحِ

the victory

l-fatḥi

وَقَـٰتَلَ ۚ

and fought

waqātala

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

أَعْظَمُ

(are) greater

aʿẓamu

دَرَجَةًۭ

(in) degree

darajatan

مِّنَ

than

mina

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

أَنفَقُوا۟

spent

anfaqū

مِنۢ

afterwards

min

بَعْدُ

afterwards

baʿdu

وَقَـٰتَلُوا۟ ۚ

and fought

waqātalū

وَكُلًّۭا

But to all

wakullan

وَعَدَ

Allah has promised

waʿada

ٱللَّهُ

Allah has promised

l-lahu

ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ

the best

l-ḥus'nā

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

بِمَا

of what

bimā

تَعْمَلُونَ

you do

taʿmalūna

خَبِيرٌۭ

(is) All-Aware

khabīrun

١٠

And why do you not spend in the cause of Allāh while to Allāh belongs the heritage of the heavens and the earth? Not equal among you are those who spent before the conquest [of Makkah] and fought [and those who did so after it]. Those are greater in degree than they who spent afterwards and fought. But to all Allāh has promised the best [reward]. And Allāh, of what you do, is Aware.

— Saheeh International

مَّن

Who (is)

man

ذَا

the one who

dhā

ٱلَّذِى

the one who

alladhī

يُقْرِضُ

will loan

yuq'riḍu

ٱللَّهَ

(to) Allah

l-laha

قَرْضًا

a loan

qarḍan

حَسَنًۭا

goodly

ḥasanan

فَيُضَـٰعِفَهُۥ

so He will multiply it

fayuḍāʿifahu

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

وَلَهُۥٓ

and for him

walahu

أَجْرٌۭ

(is) a reward

ajrun

كَرِيمٌۭ

noble

karīmun

١١

Who is it that would loan Allāh a goodly loan so He will multiply it for him and he will have a noble reward?

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(On the) Day

yawma

تَرَى

you will see

tarā

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

the believing men

l-mu'minīna

وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ

and the believing women

wal-mu'mināti

يَسْعَىٰ

running

yasʿā

نُورُهُم

their light

nūruhum

بَيْنَ

before them

bayna

أَيْدِيهِمْ

before them

aydīhim

وَبِأَيْمَـٰنِهِم

and on their right

wabi-aymānihim

بُشْرَىٰكُمُ

Glad tidings for you

bush'rākumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ

this Day

l-yawma

جَنَّـٰتٌۭ

gardens

jannātun

تَجْرِى

flowing

tajrī

مِن

from

min

تَحْتِهَا

underneath it

taḥtihā

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ

the rivers

l-anhāru

خَـٰلِدِينَ

abiding forever

khālidīna

فِيهَا ۚ

therein

fīhā

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

هُوَ

[it] (is)

huwa

ٱلْفَوْزُ

the success

l-fawzu

ٱلْعَظِيمُ

the great

l-ʿaẓīmu

١٢

On the Day you see the believing men and believing women, their light proceeding before them and on their right, [it will be said], "Your good tidings today are [of] gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein you will abide eternally." That is what is the great attainment.

— Saheeh International

يَوْمَ

(On the) Day

yawma

يَقُولُ

will say

yaqūlu

ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ

the hypocrite men

l-munāfiqūna

وَٱلْمُنَـٰفِقَـٰتُ

and the hypocrite women

wal-munāfiqātu

لِلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

ٱنظُرُونَا

Wait for us

unẓurūnā

نَقْتَبِسْ

we may acquire

naqtabis

مِن

of

min

نُّورِكُمْ

your light

nūrikum

قِيلَ

It will be said

qīla

ٱرْجِعُوا۟

Go back

ir'jiʿū

وَرَآءَكُمْ

behind you

warāakum

فَٱلْتَمِسُوا۟

and seek

fal-tamisū

نُورًۭا

light

nūran

فَضُرِبَ

Then will be put up

faḍuriba

بَيْنَهُم

between them

baynahum

بِسُورٍۢ

a wall

bisūrin

لَّهُۥ

for it

lahu

بَابٌۢ

a gate

bābun

بَاطِنُهُۥ

its interior

bāṭinuhu

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

ٱلرَّحْمَةُ

(is) mercy

l-raḥmatu

وَظَـٰهِرُهُۥ

but its exterior

waẓāhiruhu

مِن

facing towards [it]

min

قِبَلِهِ

facing towards [it]

qibalihi

ٱلْعَذَابُ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābu

١٣

On the [same] Day the hypocrite men and hypocrite women will say to those who believed, "Wait for us that we may acquire some of your light." It will be said, "Go back behind you1 and seek light." And a wall will be placed between them with a door, its interior containing mercy, but on the outside of it is torment.

— Saheeh International

يُنَادُونَهُمْ

They will call them

yunādūnahum

أَلَمْ

Were not

alam

نَكُن

we

nakun

مَّعَكُمْ ۖ

with you

maʿakum

قَالُوا۟

They will say

qālū

بَلَىٰ

Yes

balā

وَلَـٰكِنَّكُمْ

but you

walākinnakum

فَتَنتُمْ

led to temptation

fatantum

أَنفُسَكُمْ

yourselves

anfusakum

وَتَرَبَّصْتُمْ

and you awaited

watarabbaṣtum

وَٱرْتَبْتُمْ

and you doubted

wa-ir'tabtum

وَغَرَّتْكُمُ

and deceived you

wagharratkumu

ٱلْأَمَانِىُّ

the wishful thinking

l-amāniyu

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

جَآءَ

came

jāa

أَمْرُ

(the) Command

amru

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَغَرَّكُم

And deceived you

wagharrakum

بِٱللَّهِ

about Allah

bil-lahi

ٱلْغَرُورُ

the deceiver

l-gharūru

١٤

They [i.e., the hypocrites] will call to them [i.e., the believers], "Were we not with you?" They will say, "Yes, but you afflicted yourselves1 and awaited [misfortune for us] and doubted, and wishful thinking deluded you until there came the command of Allāh. And the Deceiver [i.e., Satan] deceived you concerning Allāh.

— Saheeh International

فَٱلْيَوْمَ

So today

fal-yawma

لَا

not

يُؤْخَذُ

will be accepted

yu'khadhu

مِنكُمْ

from you

minkum

فِدْيَةٌۭ

any ransom

fid'yatun

وَلَا

and not

walā

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟ ۚ

disbelieved

kafarū

مَأْوَىٰكُمُ

Your abode

mawākumu

ٱلنَّارُ ۖ

(is) the Fire

l-nāru

هِىَ

it (is)

hiya

مَوْلَىٰكُمْ ۖ

your protector

mawlākum

وَبِئْسَ

and wretched is

wabi'sa

ٱلْمَصِيرُ

the destination

l-maṣīru

١٥

So today no ransom will be taken from you or from those who disbelieved. Your refuge is the Fire. It is most worthy of you, and wretched is the destination."

— Saheeh International

۞ أَلَمْ

Has not

alam

يَأْنِ

come (the) time

yani

لِلَّذِينَ

for those who

lilladhīna

ءَامَنُوٓا۟

believed

āmanū

أَن

that

an

تَخْشَعَ

become humble

takhshaʿa

قُلُوبُهُمْ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

لِذِكْرِ

at (the) remembrance (of) Allah

lidhik'ri

ٱللَّهِ

at (the) remembrance (of) Allah

l-lahi

وَمَا

and what

wamā

نَزَلَ

has come down

nazala

مِنَ

of

mina

ٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

l-ḥaqi

وَلَا

And not

walā

يَكُونُوا۟

they become

yakūnū

كَٱلَّذِينَ

like those who

ka-alladhīna

أُوتُوا۟

were given

ūtū

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

مِن

before

min

قَبْلُ

before

qablu

فَطَالَ

(and) was prolonged

faṭāla

عَلَيْهِمُ

for them

ʿalayhimu

ٱلْأَمَدُ

the term

l-amadu

فَقَسَتْ

so hardened

faqasat

قُلُوبُهُمْ ۖ

their hearts

qulūbuhum

وَكَثِيرٌۭ

and many

wakathīrun

مِّنْهُمْ

of them

min'hum

فَـٰسِقُونَ

(are) defiantly disobedient

fāsiqūna

١٦

Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allāh and what has come down of the truth? And let them not be like those who were given the Scripture before, and a long period passed over them, so their hearts hardened; and many of them are defiantly disobedient.

— Saheeh International

ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟

Know

iʿ'lamū

أَنَّ

that

anna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

يُحْىِ

gives life

yuḥ'yī

ٱلْأَرْضَ

(to) the earth

l-arḍa

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

مَوْتِهَا ۚ

its death

mawtihā

قَدْ

Indeed

qad

بَيَّنَّا

We have made clear

bayyannā

لَكُمُ

to you

lakumu

ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ

the Signs

l-āyāti

لَعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَعْقِلُونَ

understand

taʿqilūna

١٧

Know that Allāh gives life to the earth after its lifelessness. We have made clear to you the signs; perhaps you will understand.1

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْمُصَّدِّقِينَ

the men who give charity

l-muṣadiqīna

وَٱلْمُصَّدِّقَـٰتِ

and the women who give charity

wal-muṣadiqāti

وَأَقْرَضُوا۟

and who lend

wa-aqraḍū

ٱللَّهَ

(to) Allah

l-laha

قَرْضًا

a loan

qarḍan

حَسَنًۭا

goodly

ḥasanan

يُضَـٰعَفُ

it will be multiplied

yuḍāʿafu

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

وَلَهُمْ

and for them

walahum

أَجْرٌۭ

(is) a reward

ajrun

كَرِيمٌۭ

noble

karīmun

١٨

Indeed, the men who practice charity and the women who practice charity and [they who] have loaned Allāh a goodly loan - it will be multiplied for them, and they will have a noble reward.

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَرُسُلِهِۦٓ

and His Messengers

warusulihi

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

[those]

ulāika

هُمُ

they

humu

ٱلصِّدِّيقُونَ ۖ

(are) the truthful

l-ṣidīqūna

وَٱلشُّهَدَآءُ

and the martyrs

wal-shuhadāu

عِندَ

(are) with

ʿinda

رَبِّهِمْ

their Lord

rabbihim

لَهُمْ

For them

lahum

أَجْرُهُمْ

(is) their reward

ajruhum

وَنُورُهُمْ ۖ

and their light

wanūruhum

وَٱلَّذِينَ

But those who

wa-alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

وَكَذَّبُوا۟

and deny

wakadhabū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ

Our Verses

biāyātinā

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

those

ulāika

أَصْحَـٰبُ

(are the) companions

aṣḥābu

ٱلْجَحِيمِ

(of) the Hellfire

l-jaḥīmi

١٩

And those who have believed in Allāh and His messengers - those are [in the ranks of] the supporters of truth and the martyrs, with their Lord. For them is their reward and their light.1 But those who have disbelieved and denied Our verses - those are the companions of Hellfire.

— Saheeh International

ٱعْلَمُوٓا۟

Know

iʿ'lamū

أَنَّمَا

that

annamā

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

لَعِبٌۭ

(is) play

laʿibun

وَلَهْوٌۭ

and amusement

walahwun

وَزِينَةٌۭ

and adornment

wazīnatun

وَتَفَاخُرٌۢ

and boasting

watafākhurun

بَيْنَكُمْ

among you

baynakum

وَتَكَاثُرٌۭ

and competition in increase

watakāthurun

فِى

of

ٱلْأَمْوَٰلِ

the wealth

l-amwāli

وَٱلْأَوْلَـٰدِ ۖ

and the children

wal-awlādi

كَمَثَلِ

like (the) example

kamathali

غَيْثٍ

(of) a rain

ghaythin

أَعْجَبَ

pleases

aʿjaba

ٱلْكُفَّارَ

the tillers

l-kufāra

نَبَاتُهُۥ

its growth

nabātuhu

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يَهِيجُ

it dries

yahīju

فَتَرَىٰهُ

and you see it

fatarāhu

مُصْفَرًّۭا

turning yellow

muṣ'farran

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يَكُونُ

becomes

yakūnu

حُطَـٰمًۭا ۖ

debris

ḥuṭāman

وَفِى

And in

wafī

ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ

the Hereafter

l-ākhirati

عَذَابٌۭ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

شَدِيدٌۭ

severe

shadīdun

وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭ

and forgiveness

wamaghfiratun

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَرِضْوَٰنٌۭ ۚ

and Pleasure

wariḍ'wānun

وَمَا

But not

wamā

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

(is) the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَآ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَتَـٰعُ

(the) enjoyment

matāʿu

ٱلْغُرُورِ

(of) delusion

l-ghurūri

٢٠

Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from Allāh and approval. And what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion.

— Saheeh International

سَابِقُوٓا۟

Race

sābiqū

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

مَغْفِرَةٍۢ

(the) forgiveness

maghfiratin

مِّن

from

min

رَّبِّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbikum

وَجَنَّةٍ

and a Garden

wajannatin

عَرْضُهَا

its width

ʿarḍuhā

كَعَرْضِ

(is) like (the) width

kaʿarḍi

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

(of) the heaven

l-samāi

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

أُعِدَّتْ

prepared

uʿiddat

لِلَّذِينَ

for those who

lilladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

بِٱللَّهِ

in Allah

bil-lahi

وَرُسُلِهِۦ ۚ

and His Messengers

warusulihi

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

فَضْلُ

(is the) Bounty

faḍlu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

يُؤْتِيهِ

He gives

yu'tīhi

مَن

(to) whom

man

يَشَآءُ ۚ

He wills

yashāu

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

ذُو

(is) the Possessor of Bounty

dhū

ٱلْفَضْلِ

(is) the Possessor of Bounty

l-faḍli

ٱلْعَظِيمِ

the Great

l-ʿaẓīmi

٢١

Race [i.e., compete] toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden whose width is like the width of the heavens and earth, prepared for those who believed in Allāh and His messengers. That is the bounty of Allāh which He gives to whom He wills, and Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

— Saheeh International

مَآ

Not

أَصَابَ

strikes

aṣāba

مِن

any

min

مُّصِيبَةٍۢ

disaster

muṣībatin

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

وَلَا

and not

walā

فِىٓ

in

أَنفُسِكُمْ

yourselves

anfusikum

إِلَّا

but

illā

فِى

in

كِتَـٰبٍۢ

a Register

kitābin

مِّن

before

min

قَبْلِ

before

qabli

أَن

that

an

نَّبْرَأَهَآ ۚ

We bring it into existence

nabra-ahā

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

عَلَى

for

ʿalā

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

يَسِيرٌۭ

(is) easy

yasīrun

٢٢

No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register1 before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allāh, is easy -

— Saheeh International

لِّكَيْلَا

So that you may not

likaylā

تَأْسَوْا۟

grieve

tasaw

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

مَا

what

فَاتَكُمْ

has escaped you

fātakum

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَفْرَحُوا۟

exult

tafraḥū

بِمَآ

at what

bimā

ءَاتَىٰكُمْ ۗ

He has given you

ātākum

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

لَا

(does) not

يُحِبُّ

love

yuḥibbu

كُلَّ

every

kulla

مُخْتَالٍۢ

self-deluded

mukh'tālin

فَخُورٍ

boaster

fakhūrin

٢٣

In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allāh does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful -

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

يَبْخَلُونَ

are stingy

yabkhalūna

وَيَأْمُرُونَ

and enjoin

wayamurūna

ٱلنَّاسَ

(on) the people

l-nāsa

بِٱلْبُخْلِ ۗ

stinginess

bil-bukh'li

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يَتَوَلَّ

turns away

yatawalla

فَإِنَّ

then indeed

fa-inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

ٱلْغَنِىُّ

(is) Free of need

l-ghaniyu

ٱلْحَمِيدُ

the Praiseworthy

l-ḥamīdu

٢٤

[Those] who are stingy and enjoin upon people stinginess. And whoever turns away1 - then indeed, Allāh is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

رُسُلَنَا

Our Messengers

rusulanā

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

with clear proofs

bil-bayināti

وَأَنزَلْنَا

and We sent down

wa-anzalnā

مَعَهُمُ

with them

maʿahumu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Scripture

l-kitāba

وَٱلْمِيزَانَ

and the Balance

wal-mīzāna

لِيَقُومَ

that may establish

liyaqūma

ٱلنَّاسُ

the people

l-nāsu

بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ

justice

bil-qis'ṭi

وَأَنزَلْنَا

And We sent down

wa-anzalnā

ٱلْحَدِيدَ

[the] iron

l-ḥadīda

فِيهِ

wherein

fīhi

بَأْسٌۭ

(is) power

basun

شَدِيدٌۭ

mighty

shadīdun

وَمَنَـٰفِعُ

and benefits

wamanāfiʿu

لِلنَّاسِ

for the people

lilnnāsi

وَلِيَعْلَمَ

and so that Allah may make evident

waliyaʿlama

ٱللَّهُ

and so that Allah may make evident

l-lahu

مَن

(he) who

man

يَنصُرُهُۥ

helps Him

yanṣuruhu

وَرُسُلَهُۥ

and His Messengers

warusulahu

بِٱلْغَيْبِ ۚ

unseen

bil-ghaybi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

قَوِىٌّ

(is) All-Strong

qawiyyun

عَزِيزٌۭ

All-Mighty

ʿazīzun

٢٥

We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice. And We sent down iron, wherein is great military might and benefits for the people, and so that Allāh may make evident those who support Him and His messengers unseen. Indeed, Allāh is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

نُوحًۭا

Nuh

nūḥan

وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ

and Ibrahim

wa-ib'rāhīma

وَجَعَلْنَا

and We placed

wajaʿalnā

فِى

in

ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا

their offspring

dhurriyyatihimā

ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ

Prophethood

l-nubuwata

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖ

and the Scripture

wal-kitāba

فَمِنْهُم

and among them

famin'hum

مُّهْتَدٍۢ ۖ

(is) a guided one

muh'tadin

وَكَثِيرٌۭ

but most

wakathīrun

مِّنْهُمْ

of them

min'hum

فَـٰسِقُونَ

(are) defiantly disobediently

fāsiqūna

٢٦

And We have already sent Noah and Abraham and placed in their descendants prophethood and scripture; and among them is he who is guided, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

قَفَّيْنَا

We sent

qaffaynā

عَلَىٰٓ

on

ʿalā

ءَاثَـٰرِهِم

their footsteps

āthārihim

بِرُسُلِنَا

Our Messengers

birusulinā

وَقَفَّيْنَا

and We followed

waqaffaynā

بِعِيسَى

with Isa

biʿīsā

ٱبْنِ

son

ib'ni

مَرْيَمَ

(of) Maryam

maryama

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ

and We gave him

waātaynāhu

ٱلْإِنجِيلَ

the Injeel

l-injīla

وَجَعَلْنَا

And We placed

wajaʿalnā

فِى

in

قُلُوبِ

(the) hearts

qulūbi

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

ٱتَّبَعُوهُ

followed him

ittabaʿūhu

رَأْفَةًۭ

compassion

rafatan

وَرَحْمَةًۭ

and mercy

waraḥmatan

وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً

But monasticism

warahbāniyyatan

ٱبْتَدَعُوهَا

they innovated

ib'tadaʿūhā

مَا

not

كَتَبْنَـٰهَا

We prescribed it

katabnāhā

عَلَيْهِمْ

for them

ʿalayhim

إِلَّا

only

illā

ٱبْتِغَآءَ

seeking

ib'tighāa

رِضْوَٰنِ

(the) pleasure

riḍ'wāni

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

فَمَا

but not

famā

رَعَوْهَا

they observed it

raʿawhā

حَقَّ

(with) right

ḥaqqa

رِعَايَتِهَا ۖ

observance

riʿāyatihā

فَـَٔاتَيْنَا

So We gave

faātaynā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

مِنْهُمْ

among them

min'hum

أَجْرَهُمْ ۖ

their reward

ajrahum

وَكَثِيرٌۭ

but most

wakathīrun

مِّنْهُمْ

of them

min'hum

فَـٰسِقُونَ

(are) defiantly disobediently

fāsiqūna

٢٧

Then We sent following their footsteps [i.e., traditions] Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospel. And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovated; We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allāh. But they did not observe it with due observance. So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.

— Saheeh International

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا

O you who believe

yāayyuhā

ٱلَّذِينَ

O you who believe

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

O you who believe

āmanū

ٱتَّقُوا۟

Fear

ittaqū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَءَامِنُوا۟

and believe

waāminū

بِرَسُولِهِۦ

in His Messenger

birasūlihi

يُؤْتِكُمْ

He will give you

yu'tikum

كِفْلَيْنِ

double portion

kif'layni

مِن

of

min

رَّحْمَتِهِۦ

His Mercy

raḥmatihi

وَيَجْعَل

and He will make

wayajʿal

لَّكُمْ

for you

lakum

نُورًۭا

a light

nūran

تَمْشُونَ

you will walk

tamshūna

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

وَيَغْفِرْ

and He will forgive

wayaghfir

لَكُمْ ۚ

you

lakum

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

غَفُورٌۭ

(is) Oft-Forgiving

ghafūrun

رَّحِيمٌۭ

Most Merciful

raḥīmun

٢٨

O you who have believed, fear Allāh and believe in His Messenger; He will [then] give you a double portion of His mercy and make for you a light by which you will walk and forgive you; and Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.

— Saheeh International

لِّئَلَّا

So that

li-allā

يَعْلَمَ

may know

yaʿlama

أَهْلُ

(the) People

ahlu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

أَلَّا

that not

allā

يَقْدِرُونَ

they have power

yaqdirūna

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

شَىْءٍۢ

anything

shayin

مِّن

from

min

فَضْلِ

(the) Bounty

faḍli

ٱللَّهِ ۙ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

وَأَنَّ

and that

wa-anna

ٱلْفَضْلَ

the Bounty

l-faḍla

بِيَدِ

(is) in Allah's Hand

biyadi

ٱللَّهِ

(is) in Allah's Hand

l-lahi

يُؤْتِيهِ

He gives it

yu'tīhi

مَن

whom

man

يَشَآءُ ۚ

He wills

yashāu

وَٱللَّهُ

And Allah

wal-lahu

ذُو

(is) the Possessor of Bounty

dhū

ٱلْفَضْلِ

(is) the Possessor of Bounty

l-faḍli

ٱلْعَظِيمِ

the Great

l-ʿaẓīmi

٢٩

[This is] so that the People of the Scripture may know that they are not able [to obtain] anything from the bounty of Allāh1 and that [all] bounty is in the hand2 of Allāh; He gives it to whom He wills. And Allāh is the possessor of great bounty.

— Saheeh International
