The Beneficent
﷽
الرحمن
عَلَّمَهُ He taught him ʿallamahu [the] speech l-bayāna
[And] taught him eloquence.
ٱلشَّمْسُ The sun al-shamsu and the moon wal-qamaru by (precise) calculation biḥus'bānin
The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,
وَٱلنَّجْمُ And the stars wal-najmu and the trees wal-shajaru both prostrate yasjudāni
And the stars and trees prostrate.1
وَٱلسَّمَآءَ And the heaven wal-samāa He raised it rafaʿahā and He has set up wawaḍaʿa the balance l-mīzāna
And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance
أَلَّا That not allā you may transgress taṭghaw in fī the balance l-mīzāni
That you not transgress within the balance.
وَأَقِيمُوا۟ And establish wa-aqīmū the weight l-wazna in justice bil-qis'ṭi and (do) not walā make deficient tukh'sirū the balance l-mīzāna
And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.
وَٱلْأَرْضَ And the earth wal-arḍa He laid it waḍaʿahā for the creatures lil'anāmi
And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.
فِيهَا Therein fīhā (is) fruit fākihatun and date-palms wal-nakhlu having dhātu sheaths l-akmāmi
Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]
وَٱلْحَبُّ And the grain wal-ḥabu having dhū husk l-ʿaṣfi and scented plants wal-rayḥānu
And grain having husks and scented plants.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?1
خَلَقَ He created khalaqa the man l-insāna from min clay ṣalṣālin like the pottery kal-fakhāri
He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.
وَخَلَقَ And He created wakhalaqa the jinn l-jāna from min a smokeless flame mārijin of min fire nārin
And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
رَبُّ Lord rabbu (of) the two Easts l-mashriqayni and Lord warabbu (of) the two Wests l-maghribayni
[He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.1
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
مَرَجَ He released maraja the two seas l-baḥrayni meeting yaltaqiyāni
He released the two seas,1 meeting [one another];
بَيْنَهُمَا Between both of them baynahumā (is) a barrier barzakhun not lā they transgress yabghiyāni
Between them is a barrier so neither of them transgresses.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يَخْرُجُ Come forth yakhruju from both of them min'humā the pearl l-lu'lu-u and the coral wal-marjānu
From both of them emerge pearl and coral.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
وَلَهُ And for Him walahu (are) the ships l-jawāri elevated l-munshaātu in fī the sea l-baḥri like mountains kal-aʿlāmi
And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
كُلُّ Everyone kullu who man (is) on it ʿalayhā (will) perish fānin
Everyone upon it [i.e., the earth] will perish,
وَيَبْقَىٰ But will remain wayabqā (the) Face wajhu (of) your Lord rabbika (the) Owner dhū (of) Majesty l-jalāli and Honor wal-ik'rāmi
And there will remain the Face1 of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يَسْـَٔلُهُۥ Asks Him yasaluhu whoever man (is) in fī the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi Every kulla day yawmin He huwa (is) in fī a matter shanin
Whoever is within the heavens and earth asks Him; every day He is in [i.e., bringing about] a matter.1
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
سَنَفْرُغُ Soon We will attend sanafrughu to you lakum O you ayyuha two classes l-thaqalāni
We will attend to you, O prominent beings.1
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يَـٰمَعْشَرَ O assembly yāmaʿshara (of) the jinn l-jini and the men wal-insi If ini you are able is'taṭaʿtum to an pass beyond tanfudhū [of] min (the) regions aqṭāri (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi then pass fa-unfudhū Not lā you (can) pass tanfudhūna except illā by authority bisul'ṭānin
O company of jinn and mankind, if you are able to pass beyond the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass. You will not pass except by authority [from Allāh].
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يُرْسَلُ Will be sent yur'salu against both of you ʿalaykumā a flame shuwāẓun of min fire nārin and smoke wanuḥāsun and not falā you will (be able to) defend yourselves tantaṣirāni
There will be sent upon you a flame of fire and smoke,1 and you will not defend yourselves.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فَإِذَا Then when fa-idhā is split inshaqqati the heaven l-samāu and it becomes fakānat rose-colored wardatan like murky oil kal-dihāni
And when the heaven is split open and becomes rose-colored like oil1 -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢ Then (on) that Day fayawma-idhin not lā will be asked yus'alu about ʿan his sin dhanbihi any man insun and not walā any jinn jānnun
Then on that Day none will be asked about his sin among men or jinn.1
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
يُعْرَفُ Will be known yuʿ'rafu the criminals l-muj'rimūna by their marks bisīmāhum and will be seized fayu'khadhu by the forelocks bil-nawāṣī and the feet wal-aqdāmi
The criminals will be known by their marks, and they will be seized by the forelocks and the feet.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
هَـٰذِهِۦ This hādhihi (is) Hell jahannamu which allatī deny yukadhibu [of it] bihā the criminals l-muj'rimūna
This is Hell, which the criminals deny.
يَطُوفُونَ They will go around yaṭūfūna between it baynahā and between wabayna scalding water ḥamīmin heated ānin
They will circulate between it and scalding water, heated [to the utmost degree].
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
وَلِمَنْ But for (him) who waliman fears khāfa (the) standing maqāma (before) his Lord rabbihi (are) two gardens jannatāni
But for he who has feared the position of his Lord1 are two gardens -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا In both of them fīhimā (are) two springs ʿaynāni flowing tajriyāni
In both of them are two springs, flowing.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا In both of them fīhimā [of] min (are) every kulli fruits fākihatin (in) pairs zawjāni
In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining muttakiīna on ʿalā couches furushin (whose) inner linings baṭāinuhā (are) of min brocade is'tabraqin and (the) fruit wajanā (of) both the gardens l-janatayni (is) near dānin
[They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade, and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِنَّ In them fīhinna (will be) companions of modest gaze qāṣirātu (will be) companions of modest gaze l-ṭarfi not lam has touched them yaṭmith'hunna any man insun before them qablahum and not walā any jinn jānnun
In them are women limiting [their] glances,1 untouched2 before them by man or jinnī -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
كَأَنَّهُنَّ As if they were ka-annahunna rubies l-yāqūtu and coral wal-marjānu
As if they were rubies and coral.1
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
هَلْ Is hal (the) reward jazāu for the good l-iḥ'sāni but illā good l-iḥ'sānu
Is the reward for good [anything] but good?
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
وَمِن Besides these two wamin Besides these two dūnihimā (are) two gardens jannatāni
And below them both [in excellence] are two [other] gardens -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا In both of them fīhimā (are) two springs ʿaynāni gushing forth naḍḍākhatāni
In both of them are two springs, spouting.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِمَا In both of them fīhimā (are) fruits fākihatun and date-palms wanakhlun and pomegranates warummānun
In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
فِيهِنَّ In them fīhinna (are) good khayrātun and beautiful ones ḥisānun
In them are good and beautiful women -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
حُورٌۭ Fair ones ḥūrun restrained maqṣūrātun in fī the pavilions l-khiyāmi
Fair ones reserved in pavilions -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
لَمْ Not lam has touched them yaṭmith'hunna any man insun before them qablahum and not walā any jinn jānnun
Untouched before them by man or jinnī -
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? -
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining muttakiīna on ʿalā cushions rafrafin green khuḍ'rin and carpets waʿabqariyyin beautiful ḥisānin
Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.
فَبِأَىِّ So which fabi-ayyi (of the) favors ālāi (of) your Lord rabbikumā will you both deny tukadhibāni
So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
تَبَـٰرَكَ Blessed is tabāraka (the) name us'mu (of) your Lord rabbika Owner dhī (of) Majesty l-jalāli and Honor wal-ik'rāmi
Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.
