Aţ-Ţūr
The Mount
﷽
الطور
وَكِتَـٰبٍۢ And by (the) Book wakitābin written masṭūrin
And [by] a Book inscribed1
وَٱلْبَيْتِ By the House wal-bayti frequented l-maʿmūri
And [by] the frequented House1
وَٱلسَّقْفِ By the roof wal-saqfi raised high l-marfūʿi
And [by] the ceiling [i.e., heaven] raised high
وَٱلْبَحْرِ By the sea wal-baḥri filled l-masjūri
And [by] the sea set on fire,1
إِنَّ Indeed inna (the) punishment ʿadhāba (of) your Lord rabbika (will) surely occur lawāqiʿun
Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur.
مَّا Not mā for it lahu any min preventer dāfiʿin
Of it there is no preventer.
يَوْمَ (On the) Day yawma will shake tamūru the heaven l-samāu (with violent) shake mawran
On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion
وَتَسِيرُ And will move away watasīru the mountains l-jibālu (with an awful) movement sayran
And the mountains will pass on, departing1 -
فَوَيْلٌۭ Then woe fawaylun that Day yawma-idhin to the deniers lil'mukadhibīna
Then woe, that Day, to the deniers,
ٱلَّذِينَ Who alladhīna [they] hum in fī (vain) discourse khawḍin are playing yalʿabūna
Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves.
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma they will be thrust yudaʿʿūna (in)to ilā (the) Fire nāri (of) Hell jahannama (with) a thrust daʿʿan
The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say],
هَـٰذِهِ This hādhihi (is) the Fire l-nāru which allatī you used to kuntum [of it] bihā deny tukadhibūna
"This is the Fire which you used to deny.
أَفَسِحْرٌ Then is this magic afasiḥ'run Then is this magic hādhā or am you antum (do) not lā see tub'ṣirūna
Then is this magic, or do you not see?
ٱصْلَوْهَا Burn in it iṣ'lawhā then be patient fa-iṣ'birū or aw (do) not lā be patient taṣbirū (it is) same sawāon for you ʿalaykum Only innamā you are being recompensed tuj'zawna (for) what mā you used to kuntum do taʿmalūna
[Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do."
إِنَّ Indeed inna the righteous l-mutaqīna (will be) in fī Gardens jannātin and pleasure wanaʿīmin
Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure,
فَـٰكِهِينَ Enjoying fākihīna in what bimā has given them ātāhum their Lord rabbuhum and protected them wawaqāhum their Lord rabbuhum (from the) punishment ʿadhāba (of) Hellfire l-jaḥīmi
Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire.
كُلُوا۟ Eat kulū and drink wa-ish'rabū (in) satisfaction hanīan for what bimā you used to kuntum do taʿmalūna
[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do."
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ Reclining muttakiīna on ʿalā thrones sururin lined up maṣfūfatin and We will marry them wazawwajnāhum to fair ones biḥūrin (with) large eyes ʿīnin
They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes.
وَٱلَّذِينَ And those who wa-alladhīna believed āmanū and followed them wa-ittabaʿathum their offspring dhurriyyatuhum in faith biīmānin We will join alḥaqnā with them bihim their offspring dhurriyyatahum and not wamā We will deprive them alatnāhum of min their deeds ʿamalihim (in) any min thing shayin Every kullu person im'ri-in for what bimā he earned kasaba (is) pledged rahīnun
And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds.1 Every person, for what he earned, is retained.2
وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰهُم And We will provide them wa-amdadnāhum with fruit bifākihatin and meat walaḥmin from what mimmā they desire yashtahūna
And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire.
يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ They will pass to one another yatanāzaʿūna therein fīhā a cup kasan no lā ill speech laghwun therein fīhā and no walā sin tathīmun
They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin.
۞ وَيَطُوفُ And will circulate wayaṭūfu among them ʿalayhim boys ghil'mānun for them lahum as if they (were) ka-annahum pearls lu'lu-on well-protected maknūnun
There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected.
وَأَقْبَلَ And will approach wa-aqbala some of them baʿḍuhum to ʿalā others baʿḍin inquiring yatasāalūna
And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other.
قَالُوٓا۟ They will say qālū Indeed, we innā [we] were kunnā before qablu among fī our families ahlinā fearful mush'fiqīna
They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allāh].
فَمَنَّ But Allah conferred favor famanna But Allah conferred favor l-lahu upon us ʿalaynā and protected us wawaqānā (from the) punishment ʿadhāba (of) the Scorching Fire l-samūmi
So Allāh conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire.
إِنَّا Indeed, we innā [we] used to kunnā before min before qablu call Him nadʿūhu Indeed, He innahu [He] huwa (is) the Most Kind l-baru the Most Merciful l-raḥīmu
Indeed, we used to supplicate1 Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful."
فَذَكِّرْ Therefore remind fadhakkir for not famā you anta (are) by (the) grace biniʿ'mati (of) your Lord rabbika a soothsayer bikāhinin and not walā a madman majnūnin
So remind, [O Muḥammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman.
أَمْ Or am (do) they say yaqūlūna A poet shāʿirun we wait natarabbaṣu for him bihi a misfortune of time rayba a misfortune of time l-manūni
Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time"?1
قُلْ Say qul Wait tarabbaṣū for indeed I am fa-innī with you maʿakum among mina those who wait l-mutarabiṣīna
Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."
أَمْ Or am command them tamuruhum their minds aḥlāmuhum this bihādhā or am they hum (are) a people qawmun transgressing ṭāghūna
Or do their minds1 command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people?
أَمْ Or am (do) they say yaqūlūna He has made it up taqawwalahu Nay bal not lā they believe yu'minūna
Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ Then let them bring falyatū a statement biḥadīthin like it mith'lihi if in they are kānū truthful ṣādiqīna
Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.
أَمْ Or am they were created khuliqū of min nothing ghayri nothing shayin or am (are) they humu the creators l-khāliqūna
Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?
أَمْ Or am (did) they create khalaqū the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍa Nay bal not lā they are certain yūqinūna
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.
أَمْ Or am with them ʿindahum (are the) treasures khazāinu (of) your Lord rabbika or am (are) they humu the controllers l-muṣayṭirūna
Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]?
أَمْ Or am for them lahum (is) a stairway sullamun they listen yastamiʿūna therewith fīhi Then let bring falyati their listener mus'tamiʿuhum an authority bisul'ṭānin clear mubīnin
Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority [i.e., proof].
أَمْ Or am for Him lahu (are) daughters l-banātu while for you walakumu (are) sons l-banūna
Or has He daughters while you have sons?
أَمْ Or am (do) you ask from them tasaluhum a payment ajran so they fahum from min a debt maghramin (are) overburdened muth'qalūna
Or do you, [O Muḥammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
أَمْ Or am with them ʿindahumu (is) the unseen l-ghaybu so they fahum write (it) down yaktubūna
Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down?
أَمْ Or am (do) they intend yurīdūna a plot kaydan But those who fa-alladhīna disbelieve kafarū themselves humu (are in) the plot l-makīdūna
Or do they intend a plan? But those who disbelieve - they are the object of a plan.
أَمْ Or am for them lahum a god ilāhun other than ghayru Allah l-lahi Glory be sub'ḥāna (to) Allah l-lahi from what ʿammā they associate (with Him) yush'rikūna
Or have they a deity other than Allāh? Exalted is Allāh above whatever they associate with Him.
وَإِن And if wa-in they were to see yaraw a portion kis'fan from mina the sky l-samāi falling sāqiṭan they will say yaqūlū Clouds saḥābun heaped up markūmun
And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling,1 they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up."
فَذَرْهُمْ So leave them fadharhum until ḥattā they meet yulāqū their Day yawmahumu which alladhī in it fīhi they will faint yuṣ'ʿaqūna
So leave them until they meet their Day in which they will be struck insensible -
يَوْمَ (The) Day yawma not lā will avail yugh'nī to them ʿanhum their plotting kayduhum (in) anything shayan and not walā they hum will be helped yunṣarūna
The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped.
وَإِنَّ And indeed wa-inna for those who lilladhīna do wrong ẓalamū (is) a punishment ʿadhāban before dūna that dhālika but walākinna most of them aktharahum (do) not lā know yaʿlamūna
And indeed, for those who have wronged is a punishment1 before that, but most of them do not know.
وَٱصْبِرْ So be patient wa-iṣ'bir for (the) Command liḥuk'mi (of) your Lord rabbika for indeed, you fa-innaka (are) in Our Eyes bi-aʿyuninā And glorify wasabbiḥ (the) praise biḥamdi (of) your Lord rabbika when ḥīna you arise taqūmu
And be patient, [O Muḥammad], for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes [i.e., sight]. And exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord when you arise
وَمِنَ And of wamina the night al-layli glorify Him fasabbiḥ'hu and after wa-id'bāra the stars l-nujūmi
And in a part of the night exalt Him and after [the setting of] the stars.
