وَكَمْ And how many wakam We destroyed ahlaknā before them qablahum of min a generation qarnin they hum (were) stronger ashaddu than them min'hum (in) power baṭshan so they explored fanaqqabū throughout fī the lands l-bilādi Is (there) hal any min place of escape maḥīṣin
And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were greater than them in [striking] power and had explored throughout the lands. Is there any place of escape?
إِنَّ Indeed inna in fī that dhālika surely, is a reminder ladhik'rā for (one) who liman is kāna for him lahu a heart qalbun or aw (who) gives ear alqā (who) gives ear l-samʿa while he wahuwa (is) a witness shahīdun
Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We created khalaqnā the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍa and whatever wamā (is) between both of them baynahumā in fī six sittati periods ayyāmin and (did) not wamā touch Us massanā any min fatigue lughūbin
And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness.
فَٱصْبِرْ So be patient fa-iṣ'bir over ʿalā what mā they say yaqūlūna and glorify wasabbiḥ (the) praise biḥamdi (of) your Lord rabbika before qabla (the) rising ṭulūʿi (of) the sun l-shamsi and before waqabla the setting l-ghurūbi
So be patient, [O Muḥammad], over what they say and exalt [Allāh] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,
وَمِنَ And of wamina the night al-layli glorify Him fasabbiḥ'hu and after wa-adbāra the prostration l-sujūdi
And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration [i.e., prayer].
