قُلْ Say qul O People yāahla (of) the Book l-kitābi Do hal you resent tanqimūna [of] us minnā except illā that an we believe āmannā in Allah bil-lahi and what wamā has been revealed unzila to us ilaynā and what wamā was revealed unzila from min before qablu and that wa-anna most of you aktharakum (are) defiantly disobedient fāsiqūna
Say, "O People of the Scripture, do you resent us except [for the fact] that we have believed in Allāh and what was revealed to us and what was revealed before and because most of you are defiantly disobedient?"
قُلْ Say qul Shall hal I inform you unabbi-ukum (of) worse bisharrin than min that dhālika (as) recompense mathūbatan from ʿinda Allah l-lahi Whom man has (been) cursed laʿanahu (by) Allah l-lahu and He became angry waghaḍiba with him ʿalayhi and made wajaʿala of them min'humu [the] apes l-qiradata and [the] swines wal-khanāzīra and (who) worshipped waʿabada the false deities l-ṭāghūta Those ulāika (are) worse sharrun (in) position makānan and farthest astray wa-aḍallu from ʿan (the) even sawāi way l-sabīli
Say, "Shall I inform you of [what is] worse than that as penalty from Allāh? [It is that of] those whom Allāh has cursed and with whom He became angry and made of them apes and pigs and slaves of ṭāghūt. Those are worse in position and further astray from the sound way."
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā they come to you jāūkum they say qālū We believe āmannā But certainly waqad they entered dakhalū with disbelief bil-kuf'ri and they wahum certainly qad went out kharajū with it bihi And Allah wal-lahu knows best aʿlamu [of] what bimā they were kānū hiding yaktumūna
And when they come to you, they say, "We believe." But they have entered with disbelief [in their hearts], and they have certainly left with it. And Allāh is most knowing of what they were concealing.
وَتَرَىٰ And you see watarā many kathīran of them min'hum hastening yusāriʿūna into fī [the] sin l-ith'mi and [the] transgression wal-ʿud'wāni and eating wa-aklihimu the forbidden l-suḥ'ta Surely evil labi'sa (is) what mā they were kānū doing yaʿmalūna
And you see many of them hastening into sin and aggression and the devouring of [what is] unlawful. How wretched is what they have been doing.
لَوْلَا Why (do) not lawlā forbid them yanhāhumu the Rabbis l-rabāniyūna and the religious scholars wal-aḥbāru from ʿan their saying qawlihimu the sinful l-ith'ma and their eating wa-aklihimu (of) the forbidden l-suḥ'ta Surely, evil labi'sa (is) what mā they used to kānū do yaṣnaʿūna
Why do the rabbis and religious scholars not forbid them from saying what is sinful and devouring what is unlawful? How wretched is what they have been practicing.
