وَوَصَّيْنَا And We have enjoined wawaṣṣaynā (on) man l-insāna to his parents biwālidayhi kindness iḥ'sānan Carried him ḥamalathu his mother ummuhu (with) hardship kur'han and gave birth to him wawaḍaʿathu (with) hardship kur'han And (the) bearing of him waḥamluhu and (the) weaning of him wafiṣāluhu (is) thirty thalāthūna month(s) shahran until ḥattā when idhā he reaches balagha his maturity ashuddahu and reaches wabalagha forty arbaʿīna year(s) sanatan he says qāla My Lord rabbi grant me (the) power awziʿ'nī that an I may be grateful ashkura (for) Your favor niʿ'mataka which allatī You have bestowed anʿamta upon me ʿalayya and upon waʿalā my parents wālidayya and that wa-an I do aʿmala righteous (deeds) ṣāliḥan which please You tarḍāhu and make righteous wa-aṣliḥ for me lī among fī my offspring dhurriyyatī indeed innī I turn tub'tu to You ilayka and indeed, I am wa-innī of mina those who submit l-mus'limīna
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment. His mother carried him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and his gestation and weaning [period] is thirty months. [He grows] until, when he reaches maturity and reaches [the age of] forty years, he says, "My Lord, enable me1 to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims."
