١

Ḥā, Meem.1

— Saheeh International

تَنزِيلُ

(The) revelation

tanzīlu

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

مِنَ

(is) from

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

ٱلْعَزِيزِ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzi

ٱلْحَكِيمِ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmi

٢

The revelation of the Book is from Allāh, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely (are) Signs

laāyātin

لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

for the believers

lil'mu'minīna

٣

Indeed, within the heavens and earth are signs for the believers.

— Saheeh International

وَفِى

And in

wafī

خَلْقِكُمْ

your creation

khalqikum

وَمَا

and what

wamā

يَبُثُّ

He disperses

yabuthu

مِن

of

min

دَآبَّةٍ

(the) moving creatures

dābbatin

ءَايَـٰتٌۭ

(are) Signs

āyātun

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يُوقِنُونَ

who are certain

yūqinūna

٤

And in the creation of yourselves and what He disperses of moving creatures are signs for people who are certain [in faith].

— Saheeh International

وَٱخْتِلَـٰفِ

And (in the) alternation

wa-ikh'tilāfi

ٱلَّيْلِ

(of) the night

al-layli

وَٱلنَّهَارِ

and the day

wal-nahāri

وَمَآ

and what

wamā

أَنزَلَ

Allah sends down

anzala

ٱللَّهُ

Allah sends down

l-lahu

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مِن

of

min

رِّزْقٍۢ

(the) provision

riz'qin

فَأَحْيَا

and gives life

fa-aḥyā

بِهِ

thereby

bihi

ٱلْأَرْضَ

(to) the earth

l-arḍa

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

مَوْتِهَا

its death

mawtihā

وَتَصْرِيفِ

and (in) directing

wataṣrīfi

ٱلرِّيَـٰحِ

(the) winds

l-riyāḥi

ءَايَـٰتٌۭ

(are) Signs

āyātun

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَعْقِلُونَ

who reason

yaʿqilūna

٥

And [in] the alternation of night and day and [in] what Allāh sends down from the sky of provision [i.e., rain] and gives life thereby to the earth after its lifelessness and [in His] directing of the winds are signs for a people who reason.

— Saheeh International

تِلْكَ

These

til'ka

ءَايَـٰتُ

(are the) Verses

āyātu

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

نَتْلُوهَا

We recite them

natlūhā

عَلَيْكَ

to you

ʿalayka

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

فَبِأَىِّ

Then in what

fabi-ayyi

حَدِيثٍۭ

statement

ḥadīthin

بَعْدَ

after

baʿda

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

وَءَايَـٰتِهِۦ

and His Verses

waāyātihi

يُؤْمِنُونَ

will they believe

yu'minūna

٦

These are the verses of Allāh which We recite to you in truth. Then in what statement after Allāh and His verses will they believe?

— Saheeh International

وَيْلٌۭ

Woe

waylun

لِّكُلِّ

to every

likulli

أَفَّاكٍ

liar

affākin

أَثِيمٍۢ

sinful

athīmin

٧

Woe to every sinful liar

— Saheeh International

يَسْمَعُ

Who hears

yasmaʿu

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Verses

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

تُتْلَىٰ

recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْهِ

to him

ʿalayhi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُصِرُّ

persists

yuṣirru

مُسْتَكْبِرًۭا

arrogantly

mus'takbiran

كَأَن

as if

ka-an

لَّمْ

not

lam

يَسْمَعْهَا ۖ

he heard them

yasmaʿhā

فَبَشِّرْهُ

So give him tidings

fabashir'hu

بِعَذَابٍ

(of) a punishment

biʿadhābin

أَلِيمٍۢ

painful

alīmin

٨

Who hears the verses of Allāh recited to him, then persists arrogantly as if he had not heard them. So give him tidings of a painful punishment.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

عَلِمَ

he knows

ʿalima

مِنْ

of

min

ءَايَـٰتِنَا

Our Verses

āyātinā

شَيْـًٔا

anything

shayan

ٱتَّخَذَهَا

he takes them

ittakhadhahā

هُزُوًا ۚ

(in) ridicule

huzuwan

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ

Those

ulāika

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابٌۭ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

مُّهِينٌۭ

humiliating

muhīnun

٩

And when he knows anything of Our verses, he takes them in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.

— Saheeh International

مِّن

Before them

min

وَرَآئِهِمْ

Before them

warāihim

جَهَنَّمُ ۖ

(is) Hell

jahannamu

وَلَا

and not

walā

يُغْنِى

will avail

yugh'nī

عَنْهُم

them

ʿanhum

مَّا

what

كَسَبُوا۟

they had earned

kasabū

شَيْـًۭٔا

anything

shayan

وَلَا

and not

walā

مَا

what

ٱتَّخَذُوا۟

they had taken

ittakhadhū

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

أَوْلِيَآءَ ۖ

(as) protectors

awliyāa

وَلَهُمْ

And for them

walahum

عَذَابٌ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

عَظِيمٌ

great

ʿaẓīmun

١٠

Before them1 is Hell, and what they had earned will not avail them at all nor what they had taken besides Allāh as allies. And they will have a great punishment.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

هُدًۭى ۖ

(is) guidance

hudan

وَٱلَّذِينَ

And those who

wa-alladhīna

كَفَرُوا۟

disbelieve

kafarū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِ

in (the) Verses

biāyāti

رَبِّهِمْ

(of) their Lord

rabbihim

لَهُمْ

for them

lahum

عَذَابٌۭ

(is) a punishment

ʿadhābun

مِّن

of

min

رِّجْزٍ

filth

rij'zin

أَلِيمٌ

painful

alīmun

١١

This [Qur’ān] is guidance. And those who have disbelieved in the verses of their Lord will have a painful punishment of foul nature.

— Saheeh International

۞ ٱللَّهُ

Allah

al-lahu

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

سَخَّرَ

subjected

sakhara

لَكُمُ

to you

lakumu

ٱلْبَحْرَ

the sea

l-baḥra

لِتَجْرِىَ

that may sail

litajriya

ٱلْفُلْكُ

the ships

l-ful'ku

فِيهِ

therein

fīhi

بِأَمْرِهِۦ

by His Command

bi-amrihi

وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟

and that you may seek

walitabtaghū

مِن

of

min

فَضْلِهِۦ

His Bounty

faḍlihi

وَلَعَلَّكُمْ

and that you may

walaʿallakum

تَشْكُرُونَ

give thanks

tashkurūna

١٢

It is Allāh who subjected to you the sea so that ships may sail upon it by His command and that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.

— Saheeh International

وَسَخَّرَ

And He has subjected

wasakhara

لَكُم

to you

lakum

مَّا

whatever

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

فِى

(is) in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

جَمِيعًۭا

all

jamīʿan

مِّنْهُ ۚ

from Him

min'hu

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

فِى

in

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَـَٔايَـٰتٍۢ

surely are Signs

laāyātin

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يَتَفَكَّرُونَ

who give thought

yatafakkarūna

١٣

And He has subjected to you whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth - all from Him. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.

— Saheeh International

قُل

Say

qul

لِّلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believe

āmanū

يَغْفِرُوا۟

(to) forgive

yaghfirū

لِلَّذِينَ

those who

lilladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يَرْجُونَ

hope

yarjūna

أَيَّامَ

(for the) days

ayyāma

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

لِيَجْزِىَ

that He may recompense

liyajziya

قَوْمًۢا

a people

qawman

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

يَكْسِبُونَ

earn

yaksibūna

١٤

Say, [O Muḥammad], to those who have believed that they [should] forgive those who expect not the days of Allāh [i.e., of His retribution] so that He may recompense a people1 for what they used to earn.

— Saheeh International

مَنْ

Whoever

man

عَمِلَ

does

ʿamila

صَـٰلِحًۭا

a righteous deed

ṣāliḥan

فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ

then it is for his soul

falinafsihi

وَمَنْ

and whoever

waman

أَسَآءَ

does evil

asāa

فَعَلَيْهَا ۖ

then it (is) against it

faʿalayhā

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّكُمْ

your Lord

rabbikum

تُرْجَعُونَ

you will be returned

tur'jaʿūna

١٥

Whoever does a good deed - it is for himself; and whoever does evil - it is against it [i.e., the self or soul]. Then to your Lord you will be returned.

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

ءَاتَيْنَا

We gave

ātaynā

بَنِىٓ

(the) Children of Israel

banī

إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

(the) Children of Israel

is'rāīla

ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ

the Book

l-kitāba

وَٱلْحُكْمَ

and the wisdom

wal-ḥuk'ma

وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَ

and the Prophethood

wal-nubuwata

وَرَزَقْنَـٰهُم

and We provided them

warazaqnāhum

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ

the good things

l-ṭayibāti

وَفَضَّلْنَـٰهُمْ

and We preferred them

wafaḍḍalnāhum

عَلَى

over

ʿalā

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

١٦

And We did certainly give the Children of Israel the Scripture and judgement1 and prophethood, and We provided them with good things and preferred them over the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم

And We gave them

waātaynāhum

بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ

clear proofs

bayyinātin

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ

the matter

l-amri

فَمَا

And not

famā

ٱخْتَلَفُوٓا۟

they differed

ikh'talafū

إِلَّا

except

illā

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

مَا

[what]

جَآءَهُمُ

came to them

jāahumu

ٱلْعِلْمُ

the knowledge

l-ʿil'mu

بَغْيًۢا

(out of) envy

baghyan

بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ

between themselves

baynahum

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

يَقْضِى

will judge

yaqḍī

بَيْنَهُمْ

between them

baynahum

يَوْمَ

(on the) Day

yawma

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

فِيمَا

about what

fīmā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

فِيهِ

therein

fīhi

يَخْتَلِفُونَ

differ

yakhtalifūna

١٧

And We gave them clear proofs of the matter [of religion]. And they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.

— Saheeh International

ثُمَّ

Then

thumma

جَعَلْنَـٰكَ

We put you

jaʿalnāka

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

شَرِيعَةٍۢ

an ordained way

sharīʿatin

مِّنَ

of

mina

ٱلْأَمْرِ

the matter

l-amri

فَٱتَّبِعْهَا

so follow it

fa-ittabiʿ'hā

وَلَا

and (do) not

walā

تَتَّبِعْ

follow

tattabiʿ

أَهْوَآءَ

(the) desires

ahwāa

ٱلَّذِينَ

(of) those who

alladhīna

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

١٨

Then We put you, [O Muḥammad], on an ordained way concerning the matter [of religion]; so follow it and do not follow the inclinations of those who do not know.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

لَن

never

lan

يُغْنُوا۟

will avail

yugh'nū

عَنكَ

you

ʿanka

مِنَ

against

mina

ٱللَّهِ

Allah

l-lahi

شَيْـًۭٔا ۚ

(in) anything

shayan

وَإِنَّ

And indeed

wa-inna

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

the wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

أَوْلِيَآءُ

(are) allies

awliyāu

بَعْضٍۢ ۖ

(of) others

baʿḍin

وَٱللَّهُ

and Allah

wal-lahu

وَلِىُّ

(is the) Protector

waliyyu

ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

(of) the righteous

l-mutaqīna

١٩

Indeed, they will never avail you against Allāh at all. And indeed, the wrongdoers are allies of one another; but Allāh is the protector of the righteous.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

بَصَـٰٓئِرُ

(is) enlightenment

baṣāiru

لِلنَّاسِ

for mankind

lilnnāsi

وَهُدًۭى

and guidance

wahudan

وَرَحْمَةٌۭ

and mercy

waraḥmatun

لِّقَوْمٍۢ

for a people

liqawmin

يُوقِنُونَ

who are certain

yūqinūna

٢٠

This [Qur’ān] is enlightenment for mankind and guidance and mercy for a people who are certain [in faith].

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Do

am

حَسِبَ

think

ḥasiba

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ٱجْتَرَحُوا۟

commit

ij'taraḥū

ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ

evil deeds

l-sayiāti

أَن

that

an

نَّجْعَلَهُمْ

We will make them

najʿalahum

كَٱلَّذِينَ

like those who

ka-alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and did

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

سَوَآءًۭ

equal

sawāan

مَّحْيَاهُمْ

(in) their life

maḥyāhum

وَمَمَاتُهُمْ ۚ

and their death

wamamātuhum

سَآءَ

Evil is

sāa

مَا

what

يَحْكُمُونَ

they judge

yaḥkumūna

٢١

Or do those who commit evils think We will make them like those who have believed and done righteous deeds - [make them] equal in their life and their death?1 Evil is that which they judge [i.e., assume].

— Saheeh International

وَخَلَقَ

And Allah created

wakhalaqa

ٱللَّهُ

And Allah created

l-lahu

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

بِٱلْحَقِّ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَلِتُجْزَىٰ

and that may be recompensed

walituj'zā

كُلُّ

every

kullu

نَفْسٍۭ

soul

nafsin

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كَسَبَتْ

it has earned

kasabat

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

لَا

will not be wronged

يُظْلَمُونَ

will not be wronged

yuẓ'lamūna

٢٢

And Allāh created the heavens and earth in truth and so that every soul may be recompensed for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.

— Saheeh International

أَفَرَءَيْتَ

Have you seen

afara-ayta

مَنِ

(he) who

mani

ٱتَّخَذَ

takes

ittakhadha

إِلَـٰهَهُۥ

(as) his god

ilāhahu

هَوَىٰهُ

his desire

hawāhu

وَأَضَلَّهُ

and Allah lets him go astray

wa-aḍallahu

ٱللَّهُ

and Allah lets him go astray

l-lahu

عَلَىٰ

knowingly

ʿalā

عِلْمٍۢ

knowingly

ʿil'min

وَخَتَمَ

and He sets a seal

wakhatama

عَلَىٰ

upon

ʿalā

سَمْعِهِۦ

his hearing

samʿihi

وَقَلْبِهِۦ

and his heart

waqalbihi

وَجَعَلَ

and puts

wajaʿala

عَلَىٰ

over

ʿalā

بَصَرِهِۦ

his vision

baṣarihi

غِشَـٰوَةًۭ

a veil

ghishāwatan

فَمَن

Then who

faman

يَهْدِيهِ

will guide him

yahdīhi

مِنۢ

after

min

بَعْدِ

after

baʿdi

ٱللَّهِ ۚ

Allah

l-lahi

أَفَلَا

Then will not

afalā

تَذَكَّرُونَ

you receive admonition

tadhakkarūna

٢٣

Have you seen he who has taken as his god his [own] desire, and Allāh has sent him astray due to knowledge1 and has set a seal upon his hearing and his heart and put over his vision a veil? So who will guide him after Allāh? Then will you not be reminded?

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

مَا

Not

هِىَ

it

hiya

إِلَّا

(is) but

illā

حَيَاتُنَا

our life

ḥayātunā

ٱلدُّنْيَا

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

نَمُوتُ

we die

namūtu

وَنَحْيَا

and we live

wanaḥyā

وَمَا

and not

wamā

يُهْلِكُنَآ

destroys us

yuh'likunā

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلدَّهْرُ ۚ

the time

l-dahru

وَمَا

And not

wamā

لَهُم

for them

lahum

بِذَٰلِكَ

of that

bidhālika

مِنْ

any

min

عِلْمٍ ۖ

knowledge

ʿil'min

إِنْ

not

in

هُمْ

they

hum

إِلَّا

(do) but

illā

يَظُنُّونَ

guess

yaẓunnūna

٢٤

And they say, "There is not but our worldly life; we die and live,1 and nothing destroys us except time." And they have of that no knowledge; they are only assuming.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

تُتْلَىٰ

are recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْهِمْ

ءَايَـٰتُنَا

Our Verses

āyātunā

بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ

clear

bayyinātin

مَّا

not

كَانَ

is

kāna

حُجَّتَهُمْ

their argument

ḥujjatahum

إِلَّآ

except

illā

أَن

that

an

قَالُوا۟

they say

qālū

ٱئْتُوا۟

Bring

i'tū

بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ

our forefathers

biābāinā

إِن

if

in

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

صَـٰدِقِينَ

truthful

ṣādiqīna

٢٥

And when Our verses are recited to them as clear evidences, their argument is only that they say, "Bring [back] our forefathers, if you should be truthful."

— Saheeh International

قُلِ

Say

quli

ٱللَّهُ

Allah

l-lahu

يُحْيِيكُمْ

gives you life

yuḥ'yīkum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يُمِيتُكُمْ

causes you to die

yumītukum

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

يَجْمَعُكُمْ

He will gather you

yajmaʿukum

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

يَوْمِ

(the) Day

yawmi

ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ

(of) the Resurrection

l-qiyāmati

لَا

no

رَيْبَ

doubt

rayba

فِيهِ

about it

fīhi

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

But

walākinna

أَكْثَرَ

most

akthara

ٱلنَّاسِ

(of) the people

l-nāsi

لَا

(do) not

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٢٦

Say, "Allāh causes you to live, then causes you to die; then He will assemble you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt, but most of the people do not know."

— Saheeh International

وَلِلَّهِ

And for Allah

walillahi

مُلْكُ

(is the) dominion

mul'ku

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَيَوْمَ

and (the) Day

wayawma

تَقُومُ

is established

taqūmu

ٱلسَّاعَةُ

the Hour

l-sāʿatu

يَوْمَئِذٍۢ

that Day

yawma-idhin

يَخْسَرُ

will lose

yakhsaru

ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ

the falsifiers

l-mub'ṭilūna

٢٧

And to Allāh belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And the Day the Hour appears - that Day the falsifiers will lose.

— Saheeh International

وَتَرَىٰ

And you will see

watarā

كُلَّ

every

kulla

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

جَاثِيَةًۭ ۚ

kneeling

jāthiyatan

كُلُّ

Every

kullu

أُمَّةٍۢ

nation

ummatin

تُدْعَىٰٓ

will be called

tud'ʿā

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

كِتَـٰبِهَا

its record

kitābihā

ٱلْيَوْمَ

Today

l-yawma

تُجْزَوْنَ

you will be recompensed

tuj'zawna

مَا

(for) what

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٢٨

And you will see every nation kneeling [from fear]. Every nation will be called to its record [and told], "Today you will be recompensed for what you used to do.

— Saheeh International

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

كِتَـٰبُنَا

Our Record

kitābunā

يَنطِقُ

speaks

yanṭiqu

عَلَيْكُم

about you

ʿalaykum

بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ

in truth

bil-ḥaqi

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

كُنَّا

[We] used to

kunnā

نَسْتَنسِخُ

transcribe

nastansikhu

مَا

what

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٢٩

This, Our record, speaks about you in truth. Indeed, We were having transcribed1 whatever you used to do."

— Saheeh International

فَأَمَّا

Then as for

fa-ammā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

وَعَمِلُوا۟

and did

waʿamilū

ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ

[the] righteous deeds

l-ṣāliḥāti

فَيُدْخِلُهُمْ

will admit them

fayud'khiluhum

رَبُّهُمْ

their Lord

rabbuhum

فِى

in(to)

رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۚ

His mercy

raḥmatihi

ذَٰلِكَ

That

dhālika

هُوَ

[it]

huwa

ٱلْفَوْزُ

(is) the success

l-fawzu

ٱلْمُبِينُ

clear

l-mubīnu

٣٠

So as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. That is what is the clear attainment.

— Saheeh International

وَأَمَّا

But as for

wa-ammā

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

كَفَرُوٓا۟

disbelieved

kafarū

أَفَلَمْ

Then were not

afalam

تَكُنْ

Then were not

takun

ءَايَـٰتِى

My Verses

āyātī

تُتْلَىٰ

recited

tut'lā

عَلَيْكُمْ

to you

ʿalaykum

فَٱسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ

but you were proud

fa-is'takbartum

وَكُنتُمْ

and you became

wakuntum

قَوْمًۭا

a people

qawman

مُّجْرِمِينَ

criminals

muj'rimīna

٣١

But as for those who disbelieved, [it will be said], "Were not Our verses recited to you, but you were arrogant and became a criminal people?

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

قِيلَ

it was said

qīla

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

وَعْدَ

(the) Promise

waʿda

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

حَقٌّۭ

(is) true

ḥaqqun

وَٱلسَّاعَةُ

and the Hour

wal-sāʿatu

لَا

(there is) no

رَيْبَ

doubt

rayba

فِيهَا

about it

fīhā

قُلْتُم

you said

qul'tum

مَّا

Not

نَدْرِى

we know

nadrī

مَا

what

ٱلسَّاعَةُ

the Hour (is)

l-sāʿatu

إِن

Not

in

نَّظُنُّ

we think

naẓunnu

إِلَّا

except

illā

ظَنًّۭا

an assumption

ẓannan

وَمَا

and not

wamā

نَحْنُ

we

naḥnu

بِمُسْتَيْقِنِينَ

(are) convinced

bimus'tayqinīna

٣٢

And when it was said, 'Indeed, the promise of Allāh is truth and the Hour [is coming] - no doubt about it,' you said, 'We know not what is the Hour. We assume only assumption, and we are not convinced.'"

— Saheeh International

وَبَدَا

And (will) appear

wabadā

لَهُمْ

to them

lahum

سَيِّـَٔاتُ

(the) evil

sayyiātu

مَا

(of) what

عَمِلُوا۟

they did

ʿamilū

وَحَاقَ

and (will) envelop

waḥāqa

بِهِم

them

bihim

مَّا

what

كَانُوا۟

they used

kānū

بِهِۦ

[at it]

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

(to) mock

yastahziūna

٣٣

And the evil consequences of what they did will appear to them, and they will be enveloped by what they used to ridicule.

— Saheeh International

وَقِيلَ

And it will be said

waqīla

ٱلْيَوْمَ

Today

l-yawma

نَنسَىٰكُمْ

We forget you

nansākum

كَمَا

as

kamā

نَسِيتُمْ

you forgot

nasītum

لِقَآءَ

(the) meeting

liqāa

يَوْمِكُمْ

(of) this Day of yours

yawmikum

هَـٰذَا

(of) this Day of yours

hādhā

وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ

and your abode

wamawākumu

ٱلنَّارُ

(is) the Fire

l-nāru

وَمَا

and not

wamā

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّن

any

min

نَّـٰصِرِينَ

helpers

nāṣirīna

٣٤

And it will be said, "Today We will forget you as you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours, and your refuge is the Fire, and for you there are no helpers.

— Saheeh International

ذَٰلِكُم

That

dhālikum

بِأَنَّكُمُ

(is) because you

bi-annakumu

ٱتَّخَذْتُمْ

took

ittakhadhtum

ءَايَـٰتِ

(the) Verses

āyāti

ٱللَّهِ

(of) Allah

l-lahi

هُزُوًۭا

(in) ridicule

huzuwan

وَغَرَّتْكُمُ

and deceived you

wagharratkumu

ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ

the life

l-ḥayatu

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

فَٱلْيَوْمَ

So this Day

fal-yawma

لَا

not

يُخْرَجُونَ

they will be brought forth

yukh'rajūna

مِنْهَا

from it

min'hā

وَلَا

and not

walā

هُمْ

they

hum

يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ

will be asked to appease

yus'taʿtabūna

٣٥

That is because you took the verses of Allāh in ridicule, and worldly life deluded you." So that Day they will not be removed from it, nor will they be asked to appease [Allāh].

— Saheeh International

فَلِلَّهِ

Then for Allah

falillahi

ٱلْحَمْدُ

(is) all the praise

l-ḥamdu

رَبِّ

(the) Lord

rabbi

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَرَبِّ

and (the) Lord

warabbi

ٱلْأَرْضِ

(of) the earth

l-arḍi

رَبِّ

(the) lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٣٦

Then, to Allāh belongs [all] praise - Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, Lord of the worlds.

— Saheeh International

وَلَهُ

And for Him

walahu

ٱلْكِبْرِيَآءُ

(is) the greatness

l-kib'riyāu

فِى

in

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَهُوَ

and He

wahuwa

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

(is) the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

٣٧

And to Him belongs [all] grandeur within the heavens and the earth, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

— Saheeh International
