The Ornaments of Gold
﷽
الزخرف
إِنَّا Indeed, We innā (have) made it jaʿalnāhu a Quran qur'ānan (in) Arabic ʿarabiyyan so that you may laʿallakum understand taʿqilūna
Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur’ān that you might understand.
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it wa-innahu (is) in fī (the) Mother ummi (of) the Book l-kitābi with Us ladaynā surely exalted laʿaliyyun full of wisdom ḥakīmun
And indeed it is, in the Mother of the Book1 with Us, exalted and full of wisdom.2
أَفَنَضْرِبُ Then should We take away afanaḍribu from you ʿankumu the Reminder l-dhik'ra disregarding (you) ṣafḥan because an you are kuntum a people qawman transgressing mus'rifīna
Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people?
وَكَمْ And how many wakam We sent arsalnā of min a Prophet nabiyyin among fī the former (people) l-awalīna
And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples,
وَمَا And not wamā came to them yatīhim any Prophet min any Prophet nabiyyin but illā they used to kānū mock at him bihi mock at him yastahziūna
But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him.
فَأَهْلَكْنَآ Then We destroyed fa-ahlaknā stronger ashadda than them min'hum (in) power baṭshan and has passed wamaḍā (the) example mathalu (of) the former (people) l-awalīna
And We destroyed greater than them1 in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded.
وَلَئِن And if wala-in you ask them sa-altahum Who man created khalaqa the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍa They will surely say layaqūlunna Created them khalaqahunna the All-Mighty l-ʿazīzu the All-Knower l-ʿalīmu
And if you should ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "They were created by the Exalted in Might, the Knowing,"
ٱلَّذِى The One Who alladhī made jaʿala for you lakumu the earth l-arḍa a bed mahdan and made wajaʿala for you lakum therein fīhā roads subulan so that you may laʿallakum (be) guided tahtadūna
[The one] who has made for you the earth a bed and made for you upon it roads that you might be guided
وَٱلَّذِى And the One Who wa-alladhī sends down nazzala from mina the sky l-samāi water māan in (due) measure biqadarin then We revive fa-ansharnā with it bihi a land baldatan dead maytan thus kadhālika you will be brought forth tukh'rajūna
And who sends down rain from the sky in measured amounts, and We revive thereby a dead land - thus will you be brought forth -
وَٱلَّذِى And the One Who wa-alladhī created khalaqa the pairs l-azwāja all of them kullahā and made wajaʿala for you lakum [of] mina the ships l-ful'ki and the cattle wal-anʿāmi what mā you ride tarkabūna
And who created the species, all of them, and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount
لِتَسْتَوُۥا۟ That you may sit firmly litastawū on ʿalā their backs ẓuhūrihi then thumma remember tadhkurū (the) favor niʿ'mata (of) your Lord rabbikum when idhā you sit firmly is'tawaytum on them ʿalayhi and say wataqūlū Glory be (to) sub'ḥāna the One Who alladhī (has) subjected sakhara to us lanā this hādhā and not wamā we were kunnā of it lahu capable muq'rinīna
That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say, "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it.1
وَإِنَّآ And indeed, we wa-innā to ilā our Lord rabbinā will surely return lamunqalibūna
And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return."
وَجَعَلُوا۟ But they attribute wajaʿalū to Him lahu from min His slaves ʿibādihi a portion juz'an Indeed inna man l-insāna surely (is) clearly ungrateful lakafūrun surely (is) clearly ungrateful mubīnun
But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion.1 Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful.
أَمِ Or ami has He taken ittakhadha of what mimmā He has created yakhluqu daughters banātin and He has chosen (for) you wa-aṣfākum sons bil-banīna
Or has He taken, out of what He has created, daughters and chosen you for [having] sons?
وَإِذَا And when wa-idhā is given good news bushira (to) one of them aḥaduhum of what bimā he sets up ḍaraba for the Most Gracious lilrraḥmāni (as) a likeness mathalan becomes ẓalla his face wajhuhu dark mus'waddan and he wahuwa (is) filled with grief kaẓīmun
And when one of them is given good tidings of that which he attributes to the Most Merciful in comparison [i.e., a daughter], his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.
أَوَمَن Then (is one) who awaman is brought up yunasha-u in fī ornaments l-ḥil'yati and he wahuwa in fī the dispute l-khiṣāmi (is) not ghayru clear mubīnin
So is one brought up in ornaments while being during conflict unevident1 [attributed to Allāh]?
وَجَعَلُوا۟ And they made wajaʿalū the Angels l-malāikata those who alladhīna themselves hum (are) slaves ʿibādu (of) the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni females ināthan Did they witness ashahidū their creation khalqahum Will be recorded satuk'tabu their testimony shahādatuhum and they will be questioned wayus'alūna
And they described the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, as females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say waqālū If law had willed shāa the Most Gracious l-raḥmānu we would not have worshipped them mā we would not have worshipped them ʿabadnāhum Not mā they have lahum about that bidhālika any min knowledge ʿil'min Nothing in they (do) hum but illā lie yakhruṣūna
And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but misjudging.
أَمْ Or am have We given them ātaynāhum a book kitāban before it min before it qablihi so they fahum to it bihi (are) holding fast mus'tamsikūna
Or have We given them a book before it [i.e., the Qur’ān] to which they are adhering?
بَلْ Nay bal they say qālū Indeed, we innā [we] found wajadnā our forefathers ābāanā upon ʿalā a religion ummatin and indeed, we wa-innā on ʿalā their footsteps āthārihim (are) guided muh'tadūna
Rather, they say, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps [rightly] guided."
وَكَذَٰلِكَ And thus wakadhālika not mā We sent arsalnā before you min before you qablika in fī a town qaryatin any min warner nadhīrin except illā said qāla (the) wealthy ones of it mut'rafūhā Indeed, we innā [we] found wajadnā our forefathers ābāanā on ʿalā a religion ummatin and indeed, we wa-innā [on] ʿalā their footsteps āthārihim (are) following muq'tadūna
And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."
۞ قَـٰلَ He said qāla Even if awalaw I brought you ji'tukum better guidance bi-ahdā than what mimmā you found wajadttum on it ʿalayhi your forefathers ābāakum They said qālū Indeed, we innā with what bimā you are sent ur'sil'tum with [it] bihi (are) disbelievers kāfirūna
[Each warner] said, "Even if I brought you better guidance than that [religion] upon which you found your fathers?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا So We took retribution fa-intaqamnā from them min'hum Then see fa-unẓur how kayfa was kāna (the) end ʿāqibatu (of) the deniers l-mukadhibīna
So We took retribution from them; then see how was the end of the deniers.
وَإِذْ And when wa-idh Ibrahim Said qāla Ibrahim Said ib'rāhīmu to his father li-abīhi and his people waqawmihi Indeed, I (am) innanī disassociated barāon from what mimmā you worship taʿbudūna
And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship
إِلَّا Except illā the One Who alladhī created me faṭaranī and indeed, He fa-innahu will guide me sayahdīni
Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me."
وَجَعَلَهَا And he made it wajaʿalahā a word kalimatan lasting bāqiyatan among fī his descendents ʿaqibihi so that they may laʿallahum return yarjiʿūna
And he made it1 a word remaining among his descendants that they might return [to it].
بَلْ Nay bal I gave enjoyment mattaʿtu (to) these hāulāi and their forefathers waābāahum until ḥattā came to them jāahumu the truth l-ḥaqu and a Messenger warasūlun clear mubīnun
However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers1 until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger.2
وَلَمَّا And when walammā came to them jāahumu the truth l-ḥaqu they said qālū This hādhā (is) magic siḥ'run and indeed, we wa-innā of it bihi (are) disbelievers kāfirūna
But when the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and indeed we are, concerning it, disbelievers."
وَقَالُوا۟ And they say waqālū Why not lawlā was sent down nuzzila this hādhā the Quran l-qur'ānu to ʿalā a man rajulin from mina the two towns l-qaryatayni great ʿaẓīmin
And they said, "Why was this Qur’ān not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?"1
أَهُمْ Do they ahum distribute yaqsimūna (the) Mercy raḥmata (of) your Lord rabbika We naḥnu [We] distribute qasamnā among them baynahum their livelihood maʿīshatahum in fī the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā and We raise warafaʿnā some of them baʿḍahum above fawqa others baʿḍin (in) degrees darajātin so that may take liyattakhidha some of them baʿḍuhum others baʿḍan (for) service sukh'riyyan But (the) Mercy waraḥmatu (of) your Lord rabbika (is) better khayrun than what mimmā they accumulate yajmaʿūna
Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and have raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may make use of one another for service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than whatever they accumulate.
وَلَوْلَآ And if not walawlā that an (would) become yakūna [the] mankind l-nāsu a community ummatan one wāḥidatan We (would have) made lajaʿalnā for (one) who liman disbelieves yakfuru in the Most Gracious bil-raḥmāni for their houses libuyūtihim roofs suqufan of min silver fiḍḍatin and stairways wamaʿārija upon which ʿalayhā they mount yaẓharūna
And if it were not that the people would become one community [of disbelievers],1 We would have made for those who disbelieve in the Most Merciful - for their houses - ceilings and stairways of silver upon which to mount.
وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ And for their houses walibuyūtihim doors abwāban and couches wasururan upon which ʿalayhā they recline yattakiūna
And for their houses - doors and couches [of silver] upon which to recline
وَزُخْرُفًۭا ۚ And ornaments of gold wazukh'rufan And not (is) wa-in all kullu that dhālika but lammā an enjoyment matāʿu (of) the life l-ḥayati (of) the world l-dun'yā And the Hereafter wal-ākhiratu with ʿinda your Lord rabbika (is) for the righteous lil'muttaqīna
And gold ornament. But all that is not but the enjoyment of worldly life. And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous.
وَمَن And whoever waman turns away yaʿshu from ʿan (the) remembrance dhik'ri (of) the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni We appoint nuqayyiḍ for him lahu a devil shayṭānan then he fahuwa (is) to him lahu a companion qarīnun
And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion.
وَإِنَّهُمْ And indeed, they wa-innahum surely, turn them layaṣuddūnahum from ʿani the Path l-sabīli and they think wayaḥsabūna that they annahum (are) guided muh'tadūna
And indeed, they [i.e., the devils] avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided
حَتَّىٰٓ Until ḥattā when idhā he comes to Us jāanā he says qāla O would that yālayta between me baynī and between you wabaynaka (were the) distance buʿ'da (of) the East and the West l-mashriqayni How wretched is fabi'sa the companion l-qarīnu
Until, when he comes to Us [at Judgement], he says [to his companion], "How I wish there was between me and you the distance between the east and west; and what a wretched companion."
وَلَن And never walan will benefit you yanfaʿakumu the Day l-yawma when idh you have wronged ẓalamtum that you annakum (will be) in fī the punishment l-ʿadhābi sharing mush'tarikūna
And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment.
أَفَأَنتَ Then can you afa-anta cause to hear tus'miʿu the deaf l-ṣuma or aw guide tahdī the blind l-ʿum'ya and (one) who waman is kāna in fī an error ḍalālin clear mubīnin
Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muḥammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error?
فَإِمَّا And whether fa-immā We take you away nadhhabanna We take you away bika then indeed, We fa-innā from them min'hum (will) take retribution muntaqimūna
And whether [or not] We take you away [in death], indeed, We will take retribution upon them.
أَوْ Or aw We show you nuriyannaka that which alladhī We have promised them waʿadnāhum then indeed, We fa-innā over them ʿalayhim have full power muq'tadirūna
Or whether [or not] We show you that which We have promised them, indeed, We are Perfect in Ability.
فَٱسْتَمْسِكْ So hold fast fa-is'tamsik to that which bi-alladhī is revealed ūḥiya to you ilayka Indeed, you innaka (are) on ʿalā a Path ṣirāṭin Straight mus'taqīmin
So adhere to that which is revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path.
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it wa-innahu (is) surely, a Reminder ladhik'run for you laka and your people waliqawmika and soon wasawfa you will be questioned tus'alūna
And indeed, it is a remembrance1 for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned.
وَسْـَٔلْ And ask wasal (those) whom man We sent arsalnā before you min before you qablika of min Our Messengers rusulinā did We make ajaʿalnā besides min besides dūni the Most Gracious l-raḥmāni gods ālihatan to be worshipped yuʿ'badūna
And ask those We sent before you of Our messengers; have We made besides the Most Merciful deities to be worshipped?
وَلَقَدْ And certainly walaqad We sent arsalnā Musa mūsā with Our Signs biāyātinā to ilā Firaun fir'ʿawna and his chiefs wamala-ihi and he said faqāla Indeed, I am innī a Messenger rasūlu (of the) Lord rabbi (of) the worlds l-ʿālamīna
And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds."
فَلَمَّا But when falammā he came to them jāahum with Our Signs biāyātinā behold idhā They hum at them min'hā laughed yaḍḥakūna
But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them.
وَمَا And not wamā We showed them nurīhim of min a Sign āyatin but illā it hiya (was) greater akbaru than min its sister ukh'tihā and We seized them wa-akhadhnāhum with the punishment bil-ʿadhābi so that they may laʿallahum return yarjiʿūna
And We showed them not a sign except that it was greater than its sister, and We seized them with affliction that perhaps they might return [to faith].
وَقَالُوا۟ And they said waqālū O yāayyuha [the] magician l-sāḥiru Invoke ud'ʿu for us lanā your Lord rabbaka by what bimā He has made covenant ʿahida with you ʿindaka Indeed, we innanā (will) surely be guided lamuh'tadūna
And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided."
فَلَمَّا But when falammā We removed kashafnā from them ʿanhumu the punishment l-ʿadhāba behold idhā They hum broke (their word) yankuthūna
But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word.
وَنَادَىٰ And called out wanādā Firaun fir'ʿawnu among fī his people qawmihi he said qāla O my people yāqawmi Is not alaysa for me lī (the) kingdom mul'ku (of) Egypt miṣ'ra and these wahādhihi [the] rivers l-anhāru flowing tajrī underneath me min underneath me taḥtī Then do not afalā you see tub'ṣirūna
And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?
أَمْ Or am am I anā better khayrun than min this hādhā one who alladhī he huwa (is) insignificant mahīnun and hardly walā and hardly yakādu clear yubīnu
Or am I [not] better than this one [i.e., Moses] who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear?1
فَلَوْلَآ Then why not falawlā are placed ul'qiya on him ʿalayhi bracelets aswiratun of min gold dhahabin or aw come jāa with him maʿahu the Angels l-malāikatu accompanying (him) muq'tarinīna
Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?"
فَٱسْتَخَفَّ So he bluffed fa-is'takhaffa his people qawmahu and they obeyed him fa-aṭāʿūhu Indeed, they innahum were kānū a people qawman defiantly disobedient fāsiqīna
So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allāh].
فَلَمَّآ So when falammā they angered Us āsafūnā We took retribution intaqamnā from them min'hum and We drowned them fa-aghraqnāhum all ajmaʿīna
And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all.
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ And We made them fajaʿalnāhum a precedent salafan and an example wamathalan for the later (generations) lil'ākhirīna
And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples.
۞ وَلَمَّا And when walammā is presented ḍuriba (the) son ub'nu (of) Maryam maryama (as) an example mathalan behold idhā Your people qawmuka about it min'hu laughed aloud yaṣiddūna
And when the son of Mary was presented as an example,1 immediately your people laughed aloud.
وَقَالُوٓا۟ And they said waqālū Are our gods aālihatunā better khayrun or am he huwa Not mā they present it ḍarabūhu to you laka except illā (for) argument jadalan Nay bal they hum (are) a people qawmun argumentative khaṣimūna
And they said, "Are our gods better, or is he?"1 They did not present it [i.e., the comparison] except for [mere] argument. But, [in fact], they are a people prone to dispute.
إِنْ Not in he huwa (was) except illā a slave ʿabdun We bestowed Our favor anʿamnā on him ʿalayhi and We made him wajaʿalnāhu an example mathalan for (the) Children of Israel libanī for (the) Children of Israel is'rāīla
He [i.e., Jesus] was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.
وَلَوْ And if walaw We willed nashāu surely We (could have) made lajaʿalnā among you minkum Angels malāikatan in fī the earth l-arḍi succeeding yakhlufūna
And if We willed, We could have made [instead] of you angels succeeding [one another]1 on the earth.
وَإِنَّهُۥ And indeed, it wa-innahu surely (is) a knowledge laʿil'mun of the Hour lilssāʿati So (do) not falā (be) doubtful tamtarunna about it bihā and follow Me wa-ittabiʿūni This hādhā (is the) Path ṣirāṭun Straight mus'taqīmun
And indeed, he [i.e., Jesus] will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me.1 This is a straight path.
وَلَا And (let) not walā avert you yaṣuddannakumu the Shaitaan l-shayṭānu Indeed, he innahu (is) for you lakum an enemy ʿaduwwun clear mubīnun
And never let Satan avert you. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.
وَلَمَّا And when walammā came jāa Isa ʿīsā with clear proofs bil-bayināti he said qāla Verily qad I have come to you ji'tukum with wisdom bil-ḥik'mati and that I make clear wali-ubayyina to you lakum some baʿḍa (of) that which alladhī you differ takhtalifūna in it fīhi So fear fa-ittaqū Allah l-laha and obey me wa-aṭīʿūni
And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, "I have come to you with wisdom [i.e., prophethood] and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allāh and obey me.
إِنَّ Indeed inna Allah l-laha He huwa (is) my Lord rabbī and your Lord warabbukum so worship Him fa-uʿ'budūhu This hādhā (is) a Path ṣirāṭun Straight mus'taqīmun
Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path."
فَٱخْتَلَفَ But differed fa-ikh'talafa the factions l-aḥzābu from min among them baynihim so woe fawaylun to those who lilladhīna wronged ẓalamū from min (the) punishment ʿadhābi (of the) Day yawmin painful alīmin
But the denominations from among them differed [and separated], so woe to those who have wronged from the punishment of a painful Day.
هَلْ Are hal they waiting yanẓurūna except illā (for) the Hour l-sāʿata that an it should come on them tatiyahum suddenly baghtatan while they wahum (do) not lā perceive yashʿurūna
Are they waiting except for the Hour to come upon them suddenly while they perceive not?
ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ Friends al-akhilāu that Day yawma-idhin some of them baʿḍuhum to others libaʿḍin (will be) enemies ʿaduwwun except illā the righteous l-mutaqīna
Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous
يَـٰعِبَادِ O My slaves yāʿibādi No lā fear khawfun on you ʿalaykumu this Day l-yawma and not walā you antum will grieve taḥzanūna
[To whom Allāh will say], "O My servants, no fear will there be concerning you this Day, nor will you grieve,
ٱلَّذِينَ Those who alladhīna believed āmanū in Our Verses biāyātinā and were wakānū submissive mus'limīna
[You] who believed in Our verses and were Muslims.
ٱدْخُلُوا۟ Enter ud'khulū Paradise l-janata you antum and your spouses wa-azwājukum delighted tuḥ'barūna
Enter Paradise, you and your kinds,1 delighted."
يُطَافُ Will be circulated yuṭāfu for them ʿalayhim plates biṣiḥāfin of min gold dhahabin and cups wa-akwābin And therein wafīhā (is) what mā desires tashtahīhi the souls l-anfusu and delights wataladhu the eyes l-aʿyunu and you wa-antum therein fīhā will abide forever khālidūna
Circulated among them will be plates and vessels of gold. And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally.
وَتِلْكَ And this watil'ka (is) the Paradise l-janatu which allatī you are made to inherit ūrith'tumūhā for what bimā you used to kuntum do taʿmalūna
And that is Paradise which you are made to inherit for what you used to do.
لَكُمْ For you lakum therein fīhā (are) fruits fākihatun abundant kathīratun from it min'hā you will eat takulūna
For you therein is much fruit1 from which you will eat.
إِنَّ Indeed inna the criminals l-muj'rimīna (will be) in fī (the) punishment ʿadhābi (of) Hell jahannama abiding forever khālidūna
Indeed, the criminals will be in the punishment of Hell, abiding eternally.
لَا Not lā will it subside yufattaru for them ʿanhum and they wahum in it fīhi (will) despair mub'lisūna
It will not be allowed to subside for them, and they, therein, are in despair.
وَمَا And not wamā We wronged them ẓalamnāhum but walākin they were kānū themselves humu wrongdoers l-ẓālimīna
And We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.
وَنَادَوْا۟ And they will call wanādaw O Malik yāmāliku Let put an end liyaqḍi to us ʿalaynā your Lord rabbuka He (will) say qāla Indeed, you innakum (will) remain mākithūna
And they will call, "O Mālik,1 let your Lord put an end to us!" He will say, "Indeed, you will remain."
لَقَدْ Certainly laqad We have brought you ji'nākum the truth bil-ḥaqi but walākinna most of you aktharakum to the truth lil'ḥaqqi (are) averse kārihūna
We had certainly brought you the truth, but most of you, to the truth, were averse.
أَمْ Or am have they determined abramū an affair amran Then indeed, We fa-innā (are) determined mub'rimūna
Or have they devised [some] affair?1 But indeed, We are devising [a plan].
أَمْ Or am (do) they think yaḥsabūna that We annā (can) not lā hear nasmaʿu their secret(s) sirrahum and their private counsel(s) wanajwāhum Nay balā and Our Messengers warusulunā with them ladayhim are recording yaktubūna
Or do they think that We hear not their secrets and their private conversations? Yes, [We do], and Our messengers [i.e., angels] are with them recording.
قُلْ Say qul If in had kāna the Most Gracious lilrraḥmāni a son waladun Then, I fa-anā (would be the) first awwalu (of) the worshippers l-ʿābidīna
Say, [O Muḥammad], "If the Most Merciful had a son, then I would be the first of [his] worshippers."1
سُبْحَـٰنَ Glory be sub'ḥāna (to the) Lord rabbi (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi (the) Lord rabbi (of) the Throne l-ʿarshi above what ʿammā they ascribe yaṣifūna
Exalted is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.
فَذَرْهُمْ So leave them fadharhum (to) converse vainly yakhūḍū and play wayalʿabū until ḥattā they meet yulāqū their Day yawmahumu which alladhī they are promised yūʿadūna
So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised.
وَهُوَ And He wahuwa (is) the One Who alladhī (is) in fī the heaven l-samāi God ilāhun and in wafī the earth l-arḍi God ilāhun And He wahuwa (is) the All-Wise l-ḥakīmu the All-Knower l-ʿalīmu
And it is He [i.e., Allāh] who is [the only] deity in the heaven, and on the earth [the only] deity. And He is the Wise, the Knowing.
وَتَبَارَكَ And blessed (is) watabāraka the One Who alladhī to Whom lahu (belongs the) dominion mul'ku (of) the heavens l-samāwāti and the earth wal-arḍi and whatever wamā (is) between both of them baynahumā and with Him waʿindahu (is the) knowledge ʿil'mu (of) the Hour l-sāʿati and to Him wa-ilayhi you will be returned tur'jaʿūna
And blessed is He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them and with whom is knowledge of the Hour and to whom you will be returned.
