Ha Meem

hha-meem

١

Ḥā, Meem.1

— Saheeh International

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

By the Book

wal-kitābi

ٱلْمُبِينِ

the clear

l-mubīni

٢

By the clear Book,

— Saheeh International

إِنَّا

Indeed, We

innā

جَعَلْنَـٰهُ

(have) made it

jaʿalnāhu

قُرْءَٰنًا

a Quran

qur'ānan

عَرَبِيًّۭا

(in) Arabic

ʿarabiyyan

لَّعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَعْقِلُونَ

understand

taʿqilūna

٣

Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur’ān that you might understand.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّهُۥ

And indeed, it

wa-innahu

فِىٓ

(is) in

أُمِّ

(the) Mother

ummi

ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ

(of) the Book

l-kitābi

لَدَيْنَا

with Us

ladaynā

لَعَلِىٌّ

surely exalted

laʿaliyyun

حَكِيمٌ

full of wisdom

ḥakīmun

٤

And indeed it is, in the Mother of the Book1 with Us, exalted and full of wisdom.2

— Saheeh International

أَفَنَضْرِبُ

Then should We take away

afanaḍribu

عَنكُمُ

from you

ʿankumu

ٱلذِّكْرَ

the Reminder

l-dhik'ra

صَفْحًا

disregarding (you)

ṣafḥan

أَن

because

an

كُنتُمْ

you are

kuntum

قَوْمًۭا

a people

qawman

مُّسْرِفِينَ

transgressing

mus'rifīna

٥

Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people?

— Saheeh International

وَكَمْ

And how many

wakam

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

of

min

نَّبِىٍّۢ

a Prophet

nabiyyin

فِى

among

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

the former (people)

l-awalīna

٦

And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples,

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

يَأْتِيهِم

came to them

yatīhim

مِّن

any Prophet

min

نَّبِىٍّ

any Prophet

nabiyyin

إِلَّا

but

illā

كَانُوا۟

they used to

kānū

بِهِۦ

mock at him

bihi

يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

mock at him

yastahziūna

٧

But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him.

— Saheeh International

فَأَهْلَكْنَآ

Then We destroyed

fa-ahlaknā

أَشَدَّ

stronger

ashadda

مِنْهُم

than them

min'hum

بَطْشًۭا

(in) power

baṭshan

وَمَضَىٰ

and has passed

wamaḍā

مَثَلُ

(the) example

mathalu

ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

(of) the former (people)

l-awalīna

٨

And We destroyed greater than them1 in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded.

— Saheeh International

وَلَئِن

And if

wala-in

سَأَلْتَهُم

you ask them

sa-altahum

مَّنْ

Who

man

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضَ

and the earth

wal-arḍa

لَيَقُولُنَّ

They will surely say

layaqūlunna

خَلَقَهُنَّ

Created them

khalaqahunna

ٱلْعَزِيزُ

the All-Mighty

l-ʿazīzu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmu

٩

And if you should ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "They were created by the Exalted in Might, the Knowing,"

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِى

The One Who

alladhī

جَعَلَ

made

jaʿala

لَكُمُ

for you

lakumu

ٱلْأَرْضَ

the earth

l-arḍa

مَهْدًۭا

a bed

mahdan

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

لَكُمْ

for you

lakum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

سُبُلًۭا

roads

subulan

لَّعَلَّكُمْ

so that you may

laʿallakum

تَهْتَدُونَ

(be) guided

tahtadūna

١٠

[The one] who has made for you the earth a bed and made for you upon it roads that you might be guided

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِى

And the One Who

wa-alladhī

نَزَّلَ

sends down

nazzala

مِنَ

from

mina

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the sky

l-samāi

مَآءًۢ

water

māan

بِقَدَرٍۢ

in (due) measure

biqadarin

فَأَنشَرْنَا

then We revive

fa-ansharnā

بِهِۦ

with it

bihi

بَلْدَةًۭ

a land

baldatan

مَّيْتًۭا ۚ

dead

maytan

كَذَٰلِكَ

thus

kadhālika

تُخْرَجُونَ

you will be brought forth

tukh'rajūna

١١

And who sends down rain from the sky in measured amounts, and We revive thereby a dead land - thus will you be brought forth -

— Saheeh International

وَٱلَّذِى

And the One Who

wa-alladhī

خَلَقَ

created

khalaqa

ٱلْأَزْوَٰجَ

the pairs

l-azwāja

كُلَّهَا

all of them

kullahā

وَجَعَلَ

and made

wajaʿala

لَكُم

for you

lakum

مِّنَ

[of]

mina

ٱلْفُلْكِ

the ships

l-ful'ki

وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ

and the cattle

wal-anʿāmi

مَا

what

تَرْكَبُونَ

you ride

tarkabūna

١٢

And who created the species, all of them, and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount

— Saheeh International

لِتَسْتَوُۥا۟

That you may sit firmly

litastawū

عَلَىٰ

on

ʿalā

ظُهُورِهِۦ

their backs

ẓuhūrihi

ثُمَّ

then

thumma

تَذْكُرُوا۟

remember

tadhkurū

نِعْمَةَ

(the) favor

niʿ'mata

رَبِّكُمْ

(of) your Lord

rabbikum

إِذَا

when

idhā

ٱسْتَوَيْتُمْ

you sit firmly

is'tawaytum

عَلَيْهِ

on them

ʿalayhi

وَتَقُولُوا۟

and say

wataqūlū

سُبْحَـٰنَ

Glory be (to)

sub'ḥāna

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

سَخَّرَ

(has) subjected

sakhara

لَنَا

to us

lanā

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

وَمَا

and not

wamā

كُنَّا

we were

kunnā

لَهُۥ

of it

lahu

مُقْرِنِينَ

capable

muq'rinīna

١٣

That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say, "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it.1

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّآ

And indeed, we

wa-innā

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

رَبِّنَا

our Lord

rabbinā

لَمُنقَلِبُونَ

will surely return

lamunqalibūna

١٤

And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return."

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلُوا۟

But they attribute

wajaʿalū

لَهُۥ

to Him

lahu

مِنْ

from

min

عِبَادِهِۦ

His slaves

ʿibādihi

جُزْءًا ۚ

a portion

juz'an

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ

man

l-insāna

لَكَفُورٌۭ

surely (is) clearly ungrateful

lakafūrun

مُّبِينٌ

surely (is) clearly ungrateful

mubīnun

١٥

But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion.1 Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful.

— Saheeh International

أَمِ

Or

ami

ٱتَّخَذَ

has He taken

ittakhadha

مِمَّا

of what

mimmā

يَخْلُقُ

He has created

yakhluqu

بَنَاتٍۢ

daughters

banātin

وَأَصْفَىٰكُم

and He has chosen (for) you

wa-aṣfākum

بِٱلْبَنِينَ

sons

bil-banīna

١٦

Or has He taken, out of what He has created, daughters and chosen you for [having] sons?

— Saheeh International

وَإِذَا

And when

wa-idhā

بُشِّرَ

is given good news

bushira

أَحَدُهُم

(to) one of them

aḥaduhum

بِمَا

of what

bimā

ضَرَبَ

he sets up

ḍaraba

لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

for the Most Gracious

lilrraḥmāni

مَثَلًۭا

(as) a likeness

mathalan

ظَلَّ

becomes

ẓalla

وَجْهُهُۥ

his face

wajhuhu

مُسْوَدًّۭا

dark

mus'waddan

وَهُوَ

and he

wahuwa

كَظِيمٌ

(is) filled with grief

kaẓīmun

١٧

And when one of them is given good tidings of that which he attributes to the Most Merciful in comparison [i.e., a daughter], his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief.

— Saheeh International

أَوَمَن

Then (is one) who

awaman

يُنَشَّؤُا۟

is brought up

yunasha-u

فِى

in

ٱلْحِلْيَةِ

ornaments

l-ḥil'yati

وَهُوَ

and he

wahuwa

فِى

in

ٱلْخِصَامِ

the dispute

l-khiṣāmi

غَيْرُ

(is) not

ghayru

مُبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

١٨

So is one brought up in ornaments while being during conflict unevident1 [attributed to Allāh]?

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلُوا۟

And they made

wajaʿalū

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ

the Angels

l-malāikata

ٱلَّذِينَ

those who

alladhīna

هُمْ

themselves

hum

عِبَـٰدُ

(are) slaves

ʿibādu

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

(of) the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāni

إِنَـٰثًا ۚ

females

ināthan

أَشَهِدُوا۟

Did they witness

ashahidū

خَلْقَهُمْ ۚ

their creation

khalqahum

سَتُكْتَبُ

Will be recorded

satuk'tabu

شَهَـٰدَتُهُمْ

their testimony

shahādatuhum

وَيُسْـَٔلُونَ

and they will be questioned

wayus'alūna

١٩

And they described the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, as females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

لَوْ

If

law

شَآءَ

had willed

shāa

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmānu

مَا

we would not have worshipped them

عَبَدْنَـٰهُم ۗ

we would not have worshipped them

ʿabadnāhum

مَّا

Not

لَهُم

they have

lahum

بِذَٰلِكَ

about that

bidhālika

مِنْ

any

min

عِلْمٍ ۖ

knowledge

ʿil'min

إِنْ

Nothing

in

هُمْ

they (do)

hum

إِلَّا

but

illā

يَخْرُصُونَ

lie

yakhruṣūna

٢٠

And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but misjudging.

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ

have We given them

ātaynāhum

كِتَـٰبًۭا

a book

kitāban

مِّن

before it

min

قَبْلِهِۦ

before it

qablihi

فَهُم

so they

fahum

بِهِۦ

to it

bihi

مُسْتَمْسِكُونَ

(are) holding fast

mus'tamsikūna

٢١

Or have We given them a book before it [i.e., the Qur’ān] to which they are adhering?

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

قَالُوٓا۟

they say

qālū

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

وَجَدْنَآ

[we] found

wajadnā

ءَابَآءَنَا

our forefathers

ābāanā

عَلَىٰٓ

upon

ʿalā

أُمَّةٍۢ

a religion

ummatin

وَإِنَّا

and indeed, we

wa-innā

عَلَىٰٓ

on

ʿalā

ءَاثَـٰرِهِم

their footsteps

āthārihim

مُّهْتَدُونَ

(are) guided

muh'tadūna

٢٢

Rather, they say, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are in their footsteps [rightly] guided."

— Saheeh International

وَكَذَٰلِكَ

And thus

wakadhālika

مَآ

not

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

فِى

in

قَرْيَةٍۢ

a town

qaryatin

مِّن

any

min

نَّذِيرٍ

warner

nadhīrin

إِلَّا

except

illā

قَالَ

said

qāla

مُتْرَفُوهَآ

(the) wealthy ones of it

mut'rafūhā

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

وَجَدْنَآ

[we] found

wajadnā

ءَابَآءَنَا

our forefathers

ābāanā

عَلَىٰٓ

on

ʿalā

أُمَّةٍۢ

a religion

ummatin

وَإِنَّا

and indeed, we

wa-innā

عَلَىٰٓ

[on]

ʿalā

ءَاثَـٰرِهِم

their footsteps

āthārihim

مُّقْتَدُونَ

(are) following

muq'tadūna

٢٣

And similarly, We did not send before you any warner into a city except that its affluent said, "Indeed, we found our fathers upon a religion, and we are, in their footsteps, following."

— Saheeh International

۞ قَـٰلَ

He said

qāla

أَوَلَوْ

Even if

awalaw

جِئْتُكُم

I brought you

ji'tukum

بِأَهْدَىٰ

better guidance

bi-ahdā

مِمَّا

than what

mimmā

وَجَدتُّمْ

you found

wajadttum

عَلَيْهِ

on it

ʿalayhi

ءَابَآءَكُمْ ۖ

your forefathers

ābāakum

قَالُوٓا۟

They said

qālū

إِنَّا

Indeed, we

innā

بِمَآ

with what

bimā

أُرْسِلْتُم

you are sent

ur'sil'tum

بِهِۦ

with [it]

bihi

كَـٰفِرُونَ

(are) disbelievers

kāfirūna

٢٤

[Each warner] said, "Even if I brought you better guidance than that [religion] upon which you found your fathers?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which you were sent, are disbelievers."

— Saheeh International

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا

So We took retribution

fa-intaqamnā

مِنْهُمْ ۖ

from them

min'hum

فَٱنظُرْ

Then see

fa-unẓur

كَيْفَ

how

kayfa

كَانَ

was

kāna

عَـٰقِبَةُ

(the) end

ʿāqibatu

ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

(of) the deniers

l-mukadhibīna

٢٥

So We took retribution from them; then see how was the end of the deniers.

— Saheeh International

وَإِذْ

And when

wa-idh

قَالَ

Ibrahim Said

qāla

إِبْرَٰهِيمُ

Ibrahim Said

ib'rāhīmu

لِأَبِيهِ

to his father

li-abīhi

وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ

and his people

waqawmihi

إِنَّنِى

Indeed, I (am)

innanī

بَرَآءٌۭ

disassociated

barāon

مِّمَّا

from what

mimmā

تَعْبُدُونَ

you worship

taʿbudūna

٢٦

And [mention, O Muḥammad], when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship

— Saheeh International

إِلَّا

Except

illā

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

فَطَرَنِى

created me

faṭaranī

فَإِنَّهُۥ

and indeed, He

fa-innahu

سَيَهْدِينِ

will guide me

sayahdīni

٢٧

Except for He who created me; and indeed, He will guide me."

— Saheeh International

وَجَعَلَهَا

And he made it

wajaʿalahā

كَلِمَةًۢ

a word

kalimatan

بَاقِيَةًۭ

lasting

bāqiyatan

فِى

among

عَقِبِهِۦ

his descendents

ʿaqibihi

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَرْجِعُونَ

return

yarjiʿūna

٢٨

And he made it1 a word remaining among his descendants that they might return [to it].

— Saheeh International

بَلْ

Nay

bal

مَتَّعْتُ

I gave enjoyment

mattaʿtu

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

(to) these

hāulāi

وَءَابَآءَهُمْ

and their forefathers

waābāahum

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

جَآءَهُمُ

came to them

jāahumu

ٱلْحَقُّ

the truth

l-ḥaqu

وَرَسُولٌۭ

and a Messenger

warasūlun

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٢٩

However, I gave enjoyment to these [people of Makkah] and their fathers1 until there came to them the truth and a clear Messenger.2

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَّا

And when

walammā

جَآءَهُمُ

came to them

jāahumu

ٱلْحَقُّ

the truth

l-ḥaqu

قَالُوا۟

they said

qālū

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

سِحْرٌۭ

(is) magic

siḥ'run

وَإِنَّا

and indeed, we

wa-innā

بِهِۦ

of it

bihi

كَـٰفِرُونَ

(are) disbelievers

kāfirūna

٣٠

But when the truth came to them, they said, "This is magic, and indeed we are, concerning it, disbelievers."

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they say

waqālū

لَوْلَا

Why not

lawlā

نُزِّلَ

was sent down

nuzzila

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلْقُرْءَانُ

the Quran

l-qur'ānu

عَلَىٰ

to

ʿalā

رَجُلٍۢ

a man

rajulin

مِّنَ

from

mina

ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ

the two towns

l-qaryatayni

عَظِيمٍ

great

ʿaẓīmin

٣١

And they said, "Why was this Qur’ān not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?"1

— Saheeh International

أَهُمْ

Do they

ahum

يَقْسِمُونَ

distribute

yaqsimūna

رَحْمَتَ

(the) Mercy

raḥmata

رَبِّكَ ۚ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

نَحْنُ

We

naḥnu

قَسَمْنَا

[We] distribute

qasamnā

بَيْنَهُم

among them

baynahum

مَّعِيشَتَهُمْ

their livelihood

maʿīshatahum

فِى

in

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَرَفَعْنَا

and We raise

warafaʿnā

بَعْضَهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍahum

فَوْقَ

above

fawqa

بَعْضٍۢ

others

baʿḍin

دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ

(in) degrees

darajātin

لِّيَتَّخِذَ

so that may take

liyattakhidha

بَعْضُهُم

some of them

baʿḍuhum

بَعْضًۭا

others

baʿḍan

سُخْرِيًّۭا ۗ

(for) service

sukh'riyyan

وَرَحْمَتُ

But (the) Mercy

waraḥmatu

رَبِّكَ

(of) your Lord

rabbika

خَيْرٌۭ

(is) better

khayrun

مِّمَّا

than what

mimmā

يَجْمَعُونَ

they accumulate

yajmaʿūna

٣٢

Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and have raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may make use of one another for service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than whatever they accumulate.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْلَآ

And if not

walawlā

أَن

that

an

يَكُونَ

(would) become

yakūna

ٱلنَّاسُ

[the] mankind

l-nāsu

أُمَّةًۭ

a community

ummatan

وَٰحِدَةًۭ

one

wāḥidatan

لَّجَعَلْنَا

We (would have) made

lajaʿalnā

لِمَن

for (one) who

liman

يَكْفُرُ

disbelieves

yakfuru

بِٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

in the Most Gracious

bil-raḥmāni

لِبُيُوتِهِمْ

for their houses

libuyūtihim

سُقُفًۭا

roofs

suqufan

مِّن

of

min

فِضَّةٍۢ

silver

fiḍḍatin

وَمَعَارِجَ

and stairways

wamaʿārija

عَلَيْهَا

upon which

ʿalayhā

يَظْهَرُونَ

they mount

yaẓharūna

٣٣

And if it were not that the people would become one community [of disbelievers],1 We would have made for those who disbelieve in the Most Merciful - for their houses - ceilings and stairways of silver upon which to mount.

— Saheeh International

وَلِبُيُوتِهِمْ

And for their houses

walibuyūtihim

أَبْوَٰبًۭا

doors

abwāban

وَسُرُرًا

and couches

wasururan

عَلَيْهَا

upon which

ʿalayhā

يَتَّكِـُٔونَ

they recline

yattakiūna

٣٤

And for their houses - doors and couches [of silver] upon which to recline

— Saheeh International

وَزُخْرُفًۭا ۚ

And ornaments of gold

wazukh'rufan

وَإِن

And not (is)

wa-in

كُلُّ

all

kullu

ذَٰلِكَ

that

dhālika

لَمَّا

but

lammā

مَتَـٰعُ

an enjoyment

matāʿu

ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ

(of) the life

l-ḥayati

ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ

(of) the world

l-dun'yā

وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ

And the Hereafter

wal-ākhiratu

عِندَ

with

ʿinda

رَبِّكَ

your Lord

rabbika

لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

(is) for the righteous

lil'muttaqīna

٣٥

And gold ornament. But all that is not but the enjoyment of worldly life. And the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous.

— Saheeh International

وَمَن

And whoever

waman

يَعْشُ

turns away

yaʿshu

عَن

from

ʿan

ذِكْرِ

(the) remembrance

dhik'ri

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

(of) the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāni

نُقَيِّضْ

We appoint

nuqayyiḍ

لَهُۥ

for him

lahu

شَيْطَـٰنًۭا

a devil

shayṭānan

فَهُوَ

then he

fahuwa

لَهُۥ

(is) to him

lahu

قَرِينٌۭ

a companion

qarīnun

٣٦

And whoever is blinded from remembrance of the Most Merciful - We appoint for him a devil, and he is to him a companion.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّهُمْ

And indeed, they

wa-innahum

لَيَصُدُّونَهُمْ

surely, turn them

layaṣuddūnahum

عَنِ

from

ʿani

ٱلسَّبِيلِ

the Path

l-sabīli

وَيَحْسَبُونَ

and they think

wayaḥsabūna

أَنَّهُم

that they

annahum

مُّهْتَدُونَ

(are) guided

muh'tadūna

٣٧

And indeed, they [i.e., the devils] avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided

— Saheeh International

حَتَّىٰٓ

Until

ḥattā

إِذَا

when

idhā

جَآءَنَا

he comes to Us

jāanā

قَالَ

he says

qāla

يَـٰلَيْتَ

O would that

yālayta

بَيْنِى

between me

baynī

وَبَيْنَكَ

and between you

wabaynaka

بُعْدَ

(were the) distance

buʿ'da

ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ

(of) the East and the West

l-mashriqayni

فَبِئْسَ

How wretched is

fabi'sa

ٱلْقَرِينُ

the companion

l-qarīnu

٣٨

Until, when he comes to Us [at Judgement], he says [to his companion], "How I wish there was between me and you the distance between the east and west; and what a wretched companion."

— Saheeh International

وَلَن

And never

walan

يَنفَعَكُمُ

will benefit you

yanfaʿakumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ

the Day

l-yawma

إِذ

when

idh

ظَّلَمْتُمْ

you have wronged

ẓalamtum

أَنَّكُمْ

that you

annakum

فِى

(will be) in

ٱلْعَذَابِ

the punishment

l-ʿadhābi

مُشْتَرِكُونَ

sharing

mush'tarikūna

٣٩

And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment.

— Saheeh International

أَفَأَنتَ

Then can you

afa-anta

تُسْمِعُ

cause to hear

tus'miʿu

ٱلصُّمَّ

the deaf

l-ṣuma

أَوْ

or

aw

تَهْدِى

guide

tahdī

ٱلْعُمْىَ

the blind

l-ʿum'ya

وَمَن

and (one) who

waman

كَانَ

is

kāna

فِى

in

ضَلَـٰلٍۢ

an error

ḍalālin

مُّبِينٍۢ

clear

mubīnin

٤٠

Then will you make the deaf hear, [O Muḥammad], or guide the blind or he who is in clear error?

— Saheeh International

فَإِمَّا

And whether

fa-immā

نَذْهَبَنَّ

We take you away

nadhhabanna

بِكَ

We take you away

bika

فَإِنَّا

then indeed, We

fa-innā

مِنْهُم

from them

min'hum

مُّنتَقِمُونَ

(will) take retribution

muntaqimūna

٤١

And whether [or not] We take you away [in death], indeed, We will take retribution upon them.

— Saheeh International

أَوْ

Or

aw

نُرِيَنَّكَ

We show you

nuriyannaka

ٱلَّذِى

that which

alladhī

وَعَدْنَـٰهُمْ

We have promised them

waʿadnāhum

فَإِنَّا

then indeed, We

fa-innā

عَلَيْهِم

over them

ʿalayhim

مُّقْتَدِرُونَ

have full power

muq'tadirūna

٤٢

Or whether [or not] We show you that which We have promised them, indeed, We are Perfect in Ability.

— Saheeh International

فَٱسْتَمْسِكْ

So hold fast

fa-is'tamsik

بِٱلَّذِىٓ

to that which

bi-alladhī

أُوحِىَ

is revealed

ūḥiya

إِلَيْكَ ۖ

to you

ilayka

إِنَّكَ

Indeed, you

innaka

عَلَىٰ

(are) on

ʿalā

صِرَٰطٍۢ

a Path

ṣirāṭin

مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ

Straight

mus'taqīmin

٤٣

So adhere to that which is revealed to you. Indeed, you are on a straight path.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّهُۥ

And indeed, it

wa-innahu

لَذِكْرٌۭ

(is) surely, a Reminder

ladhik'run

لَّكَ

for you

laka

وَلِقَوْمِكَ ۖ

and your people

waliqawmika

وَسَوْفَ

and soon

wasawfa

تُسْـَٔلُونَ

you will be questioned

tus'alūna

٤٤

And indeed, it is a remembrance1 for you and your people, and you [all] are going to be questioned.

— Saheeh International

وَسْـَٔلْ

And ask

wasal

مَنْ

(those) whom

man

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مِن

before you

min

قَبْلِكَ

before you

qablika

مِن

of

min

رُّسُلِنَآ

Our Messengers

rusulinā

أَجَعَلْنَا

did We make

ajaʿalnā

مِن

besides

min

دُونِ

besides

dūni

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

the Most Gracious

l-raḥmāni

ءَالِهَةًۭ

gods

ālihatan

يُعْبَدُونَ

to be worshipped

yuʿ'badūna

٤٥

And ask those We sent before you of Our messengers; have We made besides the Most Merciful deities to be worshipped?

— Saheeh International

وَلَقَدْ

And certainly

walaqad

أَرْسَلْنَا

We sent

arsalnā

مُوسَىٰ

Musa

mūsā

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ

with Our Signs

biāyātinā

إِلَىٰ

to

ilā

فِرْعَوْنَ

Firaun

fir'ʿawna

وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ

and his chiefs

wamala-ihi

فَقَالَ

and he said

faqāla

إِنِّى

Indeed, I am

innī

رَسُولُ

a Messenger

rasūlu

رَبِّ

(of the) Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

(of) the worlds

l-ʿālamīna

٤٦

And certainly did We send Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, and he said, "Indeed, I am the messenger of the Lord of the worlds."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

جَآءَهُم

he came to them

jāahum

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ

with Our Signs

biāyātinā

إِذَا

behold

idhā

هُم

They

hum

مِّنْهَا

at them

min'hā

يَضْحَكُونَ

laughed

yaḍḥakūna

٤٧

But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

نُرِيهِم

We showed them

nurīhim

مِّنْ

of

min

ءَايَةٍ

a Sign

āyatin

إِلَّا

but

illā

هِىَ

it

hiya

أَكْبَرُ

(was) greater

akbaru

مِنْ

than

min

أُخْتِهَا ۖ

its sister

ukh'tihā

وَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم

and We seized them

wa-akhadhnāhum

بِٱلْعَذَابِ

with the punishment

bil-ʿadhābi

لَعَلَّهُمْ

so that they may

laʿallahum

يَرْجِعُونَ

return

yarjiʿūna

٤٨

And We showed them not a sign except that it was greater than its sister, and We seized them with affliction that perhaps they might return [to faith].

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوا۟

And they said

waqālū

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَ

O

yāayyuha

ٱلسَّاحِرُ

[the] magician

l-sāḥiru

ٱدْعُ

Invoke

ud'ʿu

لَنَا

for us

lanā

رَبَّكَ

your Lord

rabbaka

بِمَا

by what

bimā

عَهِدَ

He has made covenant

ʿahida

عِندَكَ

with you

ʿindaka

إِنَّنَا

Indeed, we

innanā

لَمُهْتَدُونَ

(will) surely be guided

lamuh'tadūna

٤٩

And they said [to Moses], "O magician, invoke for us your Lord by what He has promised you. Indeed, we will be guided."

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّا

But when

falammā

كَشَفْنَا

We removed

kashafnā

عَنْهُمُ

from them

ʿanhumu

ٱلْعَذَابَ

the punishment

l-ʿadhāba

إِذَا

behold

idhā

هُمْ

They

hum

يَنكُثُونَ

broke (their word)

yankuthūna

٥٠

But when We removed from them the affliction, at once they broke their word.

— Saheeh International

وَنَادَىٰ

And called out

wanādā

فِرْعَوْنُ

Firaun

fir'ʿawnu

فِى

among

قَوْمِهِۦ

his people

qawmihi

قَالَ

he said

qāla

يَـٰقَوْمِ

O my people

yāqawmi

أَلَيْسَ

Is not

alaysa

لِى

for me

مُلْكُ

(the) kingdom

mul'ku

مِصْرَ

(of) Egypt

miṣ'ra

وَهَـٰذِهِ

and these

wahādhihi

ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ

[the] rivers

l-anhāru

تَجْرِى

flowing

tajrī

مِن

underneath me

min

تَحْتِىٓ ۖ

underneath me

taḥtī

أَفَلَا

Then do not

afalā

تُبْصِرُونَ

you see

tub'ṣirūna

٥١

And Pharaoh called out among his people; he said, "O my people, does not the kingdom of Egypt belong to me, and these rivers flowing beneath me; then do you not see?

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

أَنَا۠

am I

anā

خَيْرٌۭ

better

khayrun

مِّنْ

than

min

هَـٰذَا

this

hādhā

ٱلَّذِى

one who

alladhī

هُوَ

he

huwa

مَهِينٌۭ

(is) insignificant

mahīnun

وَلَا

and hardly

walā

يَكَادُ

and hardly

yakādu

يُبِينُ

clear

yubīnu

٥٢

Or am I [not] better than this one [i.e., Moses] who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear?1

— Saheeh International

فَلَوْلَآ

Then why not

falawlā

أُلْقِىَ

are placed

ul'qiya

عَلَيْهِ

on him

ʿalayhi

أَسْوِرَةٌۭ

bracelets

aswiratun

مِّن

of

min

ذَهَبٍ

gold

dhahabin

أَوْ

or

aw

جَآءَ

come

jāa

مَعَهُ

with him

maʿahu

ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ

the Angels

l-malāikatu

مُقْتَرِنِينَ

accompanying (him)

muq'tarinīna

٥٣

Then why have there not been placed upon him bracelets of gold or come with him the angels in conjunction?"

— Saheeh International

فَٱسْتَخَفَّ

So he bluffed

fa-is'takhaffa

قَوْمَهُۥ

his people

qawmahu

فَأَطَاعُوهُ ۚ

and they obeyed him

fa-aṭāʿūhu

إِنَّهُمْ

Indeed, they

innahum

كَانُوا۟

were

kānū

قَوْمًۭا

a people

qawman

فَـٰسِقِينَ

defiantly disobedient

fāsiqīna

٥٤

So he bluffed his people, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were [themselves] a people defiantly disobedient [of Allāh].

— Saheeh International

فَلَمَّآ

So when

falammā

ءَاسَفُونَا

they angered Us

āsafūnā

ٱنتَقَمْنَا

We took retribution

intaqamnā

مِنْهُمْ

from them

min'hum

فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ

and We drowned them

fa-aghraqnāhum

أَجْمَعِينَ

all

ajmaʿīna

٥٥

And when they angered Us, We took retribution from them and drowned them all.

— Saheeh International

فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ

And We made them

fajaʿalnāhum

سَلَفًۭا

a precedent

salafan

وَمَثَلًۭا

and an example

wamathalan

لِّلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

for the later (generations)

lil'ākhirīna

٥٦

And We made them a precedent and an example for the later peoples.

— Saheeh International

۞ وَلَمَّا

And when

walammā

ضُرِبَ

is presented

ḍuriba

ٱبْنُ

(the) son

ub'nu

مَرْيَمَ

(of) Maryam

maryama

مَثَلًا

(as) an example

mathalan

إِذَا

behold

idhā

قَوْمُكَ

Your people

qawmuka

مِنْهُ

about it

min'hu

يَصِدُّونَ

laughed aloud

yaṣiddūna

٥٧

And when the son of Mary was presented as an example,1 immediately your people laughed aloud.

— Saheeh International

وَقَالُوٓا۟

And they said

waqālū

ءَأَـٰلِهَتُنَا

Are our gods

aālihatunā

خَيْرٌ

better

khayrun

أَمْ

or

am

هُوَ ۚ

he

huwa

مَا

Not

ضَرَبُوهُ

they present it

ḍarabūhu

لَكَ

to you

laka

إِلَّا

except

illā

جَدَلًۢا ۚ

(for) argument

jadalan

بَلْ

Nay

bal

هُمْ

they

hum

قَوْمٌ

(are) a people

qawmun

خَصِمُونَ

argumentative

khaṣimūna

٥٨

And they said, "Are our gods better, or is he?"1 They did not present it [i.e., the comparison] except for [mere] argument. But, [in fact], they are a people prone to dispute.

— Saheeh International

إِنْ

Not

in

هُوَ

he

huwa

إِلَّا

(was) except

illā

عَبْدٌ

a slave

ʿabdun

أَنْعَمْنَا

We bestowed Our favor

anʿamnā

عَلَيْهِ

on him

ʿalayhi

وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ

and We made him

wajaʿalnāhu

مَثَلًۭا

an example

mathalan

لِّبَنِىٓ

for (the) Children of Israel

libanī

إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

for (the) Children of Israel

is'rāīla

٥٩

He [i.e., Jesus] was not but a servant upon whom We bestowed favor, and We made him an example for the Children of Israel.

— Saheeh International

وَلَوْ

And if

walaw

نَشَآءُ

We willed

nashāu

لَجَعَلْنَا

surely We (could have) made

lajaʿalnā

مِنكُم

among you

minkum

مَّلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭ

Angels

malāikatan

فِى

in

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

يَخْلُفُونَ

succeeding

yakhlufūna

٦٠

And if We willed, We could have made [instead] of you angels succeeding [one another]1 on the earth.

— Saheeh International

وَإِنَّهُۥ

And indeed, it

wa-innahu

لَعِلْمٌۭ

surely (is) a knowledge

laʿil'mun

لِّلسَّاعَةِ

of the Hour

lilssāʿati

فَلَا

So (do) not

falā

تَمْتَرُنَّ

(be) doubtful

tamtarunna

بِهَا

about it

bihā

وَٱتَّبِعُونِ ۚ

and follow Me

wa-ittabiʿūni

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

صِرَٰطٌۭ

(is the) Path

ṣirāṭun

مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭ

Straight

mus'taqīmun

٦١

And indeed, he [i.e., Jesus] will be [a sign for] knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow Me.1 This is a straight path.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And (let) not

walā

يَصُدَّنَّكُمُ

avert you

yaṣuddannakumu

ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ ۖ

the Shaitaan

l-shayṭānu

إِنَّهُۥ

Indeed, he

innahu

لَكُمْ

(is) for you

lakum

عَدُوٌّۭ

an enemy

ʿaduwwun

مُّبِينٌۭ

clear

mubīnun

٦٢

And never let Satan avert you. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

— Saheeh International

وَلَمَّا

And when

walammā

جَآءَ

came

jāa

عِيسَىٰ

Isa

ʿīsā

بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ

with clear proofs

bil-bayināti

قَالَ

he said

qāla

قَدْ

Verily

qad

جِئْتُكُم

I have come to you

ji'tukum

بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ

with wisdom

bil-ḥik'mati

وَلِأُبَيِّنَ

and that I make clear

wali-ubayyina

لَكُم

to you

lakum

بَعْضَ

some

baʿḍa

ٱلَّذِى

(of) that which

alladhī

تَخْتَلِفُونَ

you differ

takhtalifūna

فِيهِ ۖ

in it

fīhi

فَٱتَّقُوا۟

So fear

fa-ittaqū

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

وَأَطِيعُونِ

and obey me

wa-aṭīʿūni

٦٣

And when Jesus brought clear proofs, he said, "I have come to you with wisdom [i.e., prophethood] and to make clear to you some of that over which you differ, so fear Allāh and obey me.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱللَّهَ

Allah

l-laha

هُوَ

He

huwa

رَبِّى

(is) my Lord

rabbī

وَرَبُّكُمْ

and your Lord

warabbukum

فَٱعْبُدُوهُ ۚ

so worship Him

fa-uʿ'budūhu

هَـٰذَا

This

hādhā

صِرَٰطٌۭ

(is) a Path

ṣirāṭun

مُّسْتَقِيمٌۭ

Straight

mus'taqīmun

٦٤

Indeed, Allāh is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him. This is a straight path."

— Saheeh International

فَٱخْتَلَفَ

But differed

fa-ikh'talafa

ٱلْأَحْزَابُ

the factions

l-aḥzābu

مِنۢ

from

min

بَيْنِهِمْ ۖ

among them

baynihim

فَوَيْلٌۭ

so woe

fawaylun

لِّلَّذِينَ

to those who

lilladhīna

ظَلَمُوا۟

wronged

ẓalamū

مِنْ

from

min

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

يَوْمٍ

(of the) Day

yawmin

أَلِيمٍ

painful

alīmin

٦٥

But the denominations from among them differed [and separated], so woe to those who have wronged from the punishment of a painful Day.

— Saheeh International

هَلْ

Are

hal

يَنظُرُونَ

they waiting

yanẓurūna

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلسَّاعَةَ

(for) the Hour

l-sāʿata

أَن

that

an

تَأْتِيَهُم

it should come on them

tatiyahum

بَغْتَةًۭ

suddenly

baghtatan

وَهُمْ

while they

wahum

لَا

(do) not

يَشْعُرُونَ

perceive

yashʿurūna

٦٦

Are they waiting except for the Hour to come upon them suddenly while they perceive not?

— Saheeh International

ٱلْأَخِلَّآءُ

Friends

al-akhilāu

يَوْمَئِذٍۭ

that Day

yawma-idhin

بَعْضُهُمْ

some of them

baʿḍuhum

لِبَعْضٍ

to others

libaʿḍin

عَدُوٌّ

(will be) enemies

ʿaduwwun

إِلَّا

except

illā

ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

the righteous

l-mutaqīna

٦٧

Close friends, that Day, will be enemies to each other, except for the righteous

— Saheeh International

يَـٰعِبَادِ

O My slaves

yāʿibādi

لَا

No

خَوْفٌ

fear

khawfun

عَلَيْكُمُ

on you

ʿalaykumu

ٱلْيَوْمَ

this Day

l-yawma

وَلَآ

and not

walā

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

تَحْزَنُونَ

will grieve

taḥzanūna

٦٨

[To whom Allāh will say], "O My servants, no fear will there be concerning you this Day, nor will you grieve,

— Saheeh International

ٱلَّذِينَ

Those who

alladhīna

ءَامَنُوا۟

believed

āmanū

بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا

in Our Verses

biāyātinā

وَكَانُوا۟

and were

wakānū

مُسْلِمِينَ

submissive

mus'limīna

٦٩

[You] who believed in Our verses and were Muslims.

— Saheeh International

ٱدْخُلُوا۟

Enter

ud'khulū

ٱلْجَنَّةَ

Paradise

l-janata

أَنتُمْ

you

antum

وَأَزْوَٰجُكُمْ

and your spouses

wa-azwājukum

تُحْبَرُونَ

delighted

tuḥ'barūna

٧٠

Enter Paradise, you and your kinds,1 delighted."

— Saheeh International

يُطَافُ

Will be circulated

yuṭāfu

عَلَيْهِم

for them

ʿalayhim

بِصِحَافٍۢ

plates

biṣiḥāfin

مِّن

of

min

ذَهَبٍۢ

gold

dhahabin

وَأَكْوَابٍۢ ۖ

and cups

wa-akwābin

وَفِيهَا

And therein

wafīhā

مَا

(is) what

تَشْتَهِيهِ

desires

tashtahīhi

ٱلْأَنفُسُ

the souls

l-anfusu

وَتَلَذُّ

and delights

wataladhu

ٱلْأَعْيُنُ ۖ

the eyes

l-aʿyunu

وَأَنتُمْ

and you

wa-antum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

خَـٰلِدُونَ

will abide forever

khālidūna

٧١

Circulated among them will be plates and vessels of gold. And therein is whatever the souls desire and [what] delights the eyes, and you will abide therein eternally.

— Saheeh International

وَتِلْكَ

And this

watil'ka

ٱلْجَنَّةُ

(is) the Paradise

l-janatu

ٱلَّتِىٓ

which

allatī

أُورِثْتُمُوهَا

you are made to inherit

ūrith'tumūhā

بِمَا

for what

bimā

كُنتُمْ

you used to

kuntum

تَعْمَلُونَ

do

taʿmalūna

٧٢

And that is Paradise which you are made to inherit for what you used to do.

— Saheeh International

لَكُمْ

For you

lakum

فِيهَا

therein

fīhā

فَـٰكِهَةٌۭ

(are) fruits

fākihatun

كَثِيرَةٌۭ

abundant

kathīratun

مِّنْهَا

from it

min'hā

تَأْكُلُونَ

you will eat

takulūna

٧٣

For you therein is much fruit1 from which you will eat.

— Saheeh International

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

the criminals

l-muj'rimīna

فِى

(will be) in

عَذَابِ

(the) punishment

ʿadhābi

جَهَنَّمَ

(of) Hell

jahannama

خَـٰلِدُونَ

abiding forever

khālidūna

٧٤

Indeed, the criminals will be in the punishment of Hell, abiding eternally.

— Saheeh International

لَا

Not

يُفَتَّرُ

will it subside

yufattaru

عَنْهُمْ

for them

ʿanhum

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

فِيهِ

in it

fīhi

مُبْلِسُونَ

(will) despair

mub'lisūna

٧٥

It will not be allowed to subside for them, and they, therein, are in despair.

— Saheeh International

وَمَا

And not

wamā

ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ

We wronged them

ẓalamnāhum

وَلَـٰكِن

but

walākin

كَانُوا۟

they were

kānū

هُمُ

themselves

humu

ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

wrongdoers

l-ẓālimīna

٧٦

And We did not wrong them, but it was they who were the wrongdoers.

— Saheeh International

وَنَادَوْا۟

And they will call

wanādaw

يَـٰمَـٰلِكُ

O Malik

yāmāliku

لِيَقْضِ

Let put an end

liyaqḍi

عَلَيْنَا

to us

ʿalaynā

رَبُّكَ ۖ

your Lord

rabbuka

قَالَ

He (will) say

qāla

إِنَّكُم

Indeed, you

innakum

مَّـٰكِثُونَ

(will) remain

mākithūna

٧٧

And they will call, "O Mālik,1 let your Lord put an end to us!" He will say, "Indeed, you will remain."

— Saheeh International

لَقَدْ

Certainly

laqad

جِئْنَـٰكُم

We have brought you

ji'nākum

بِٱلْحَقِّ

the truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَلَـٰكِنَّ

but

walākinna

أَكْثَرَكُمْ

most of you

aktharakum

لِلْحَقِّ

to the truth

lil'ḥaqqi

كَـٰرِهُونَ

(are) averse

kārihūna

٧٨

We had certainly brought you the truth, but most of you, to the truth, were averse.

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

أَبْرَمُوٓا۟

have they determined

abramū

أَمْرًۭا

an affair

amran

فَإِنَّا

Then indeed, We

fa-innā

مُبْرِمُونَ

(are) determined

mub'rimūna

٧٩

Or have they devised [some] affair?1 But indeed, We are devising [a plan].

— Saheeh International

أَمْ

Or

am

يَحْسَبُونَ

(do) they think

yaḥsabūna

أَنَّا

that We

annā

لَا

(can) not

نَسْمَعُ

hear

nasmaʿu

سِرَّهُمْ

their secret(s)

sirrahum

وَنَجْوَىٰهُم ۚ

and their private counsel(s)

wanajwāhum

بَلَىٰ

Nay

balā

وَرُسُلُنَا

and Our Messengers

warusulunā

لَدَيْهِمْ

with them

ladayhim

يَكْتُبُونَ

are recording

yaktubūna

٨٠

Or do they think that We hear not their secrets and their private conversations? Yes, [We do], and Our messengers [i.e., angels] are with them recording.

— Saheeh International

قُلْ

Say

qul

إِن

If

in

كَانَ

had

kāna

لِلرَّحْمَـٰنِ

the Most Gracious

lilrraḥmāni

وَلَدٌۭ

a son

waladun

فَأَنَا۠

Then, I

fa-anā

أَوَّلُ

(would be the) first

awwalu

ٱلْعَـٰبِدِينَ

(of) the worshippers

l-ʿābidīna

٨١

Say, [O Muḥammad], "If the Most Merciful had a son, then I would be the first of [his] worshippers."1

— Saheeh International

سُبْحَـٰنَ

Glory be

sub'ḥāna

رَبِّ

(to the) Lord

rabbi

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

رَبِّ

(the) Lord

rabbi

ٱلْعَرْشِ

(of) the Throne

l-ʿarshi

عَمَّا

above what

ʿammā

يَصِفُونَ

they ascribe

yaṣifūna

٨٢

Exalted is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe.

— Saheeh International

فَذَرْهُمْ

So leave them

fadharhum

يَخُوضُوا۟

(to) converse vainly

yakhūḍū

وَيَلْعَبُوا۟

and play

wayalʿabū

حَتَّىٰ

until

ḥattā

يُلَـٰقُوا۟

they meet

yulāqū

يَوْمَهُمُ

their Day

yawmahumu

ٱلَّذِى

which

alladhī

يُوعَدُونَ

they are promised

yūʿadūna

٨٣

So leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised.

— Saheeh International

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلَّذِى

(is) the One Who

alladhī

فِى

(is) in

ٱلسَّمَآءِ

the heaven

l-samāi

إِلَـٰهٌۭ

God

ilāhun

وَفِى

and in

wafī

ٱلْأَرْضِ

the earth

l-arḍi

إِلَـٰهٌۭ ۚ

God

ilāhun

وَهُوَ

And He

wahuwa

ٱلْحَكِيمُ

(is) the All-Wise

l-ḥakīmu

ٱلْعَلِيمُ

the All-Knower

l-ʿalīmu

٨٤

And it is He [i.e., Allāh] who is [the only] deity in the heaven, and on the earth [the only] deity. And He is the Wise, the Knowing.

— Saheeh International

وَتَبَارَكَ

And blessed (is)

watabāraka

ٱلَّذِى

the One Who

alladhī

لَهُۥ

to Whom

lahu

مُلْكُ

(belongs the) dominion

mul'ku

ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ

(of) the heavens

l-samāwāti

وَٱلْأَرْضِ

and the earth

wal-arḍi

وَمَا

and whatever

wamā

بَيْنَهُمَا

(is) between both of them

baynahumā

وَعِندَهُۥ

and with Him

waʿindahu

عِلْمُ

(is the) knowledge

ʿil'mu

ٱلسَّاعَةِ

(of) the Hour

l-sāʿati

وَإِلَيْهِ

and to Him

wa-ilayhi

تُرْجَعُونَ

you will be returned

tur'jaʿūna

٨٥

And blessed is He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them and with whom is knowledge of the Hour and to whom you will be returned.

— Saheeh International

وَلَا

And not

walā

يَمْلِكُ

have power

yamliku

ٱلَّذِينَ

those whom

alladhīna

يَدْعُونَ

they invoke

yadʿūna

مِن

besides Him

min

دُونِهِ

besides Him

dūnihi

ٱلشَّفَـٰعَةَ

(for) the intercession

l-shafāʿata

إِلَّا

except

illā

مَن

who

man

شَهِدَ

testifies

shahida

بِٱلْحَقِّ

to the truth

bil-ḥaqi

وَهُمْ

and they

wahum

يَعْلَمُونَ

know

yaʿlamūna

٨٦

And those they invoke1 besides Him do not possess [power of] intercession; but only those who testify to the truth [can benefit], and they know.2

— Saheeh International

وَلَئِن

And if

wala-in

سَأَلْتَهُم

you ask them

sa-altahum

مَّنْ

who

man

خَلَقَهُمْ

created them

khalaqahum

لَيَقُولُنَّ

they will certainly say

layaqūlunna

ٱللَّهُ ۖ

Allah

l-lahu

فَأَنَّىٰ

Then how

fa-annā

يُؤْفَكُونَ

are they deluded

yu'fakūna

٨٧

And if you asked them1 who created them, they would surely say, "Allāh." So how are they deluded?

— Saheeh International

وَقِيلِهِۦ

And his saying

waqīlihi

يَـٰرَبِّ

O my Lord

yārabbi

إِنَّ

Indeed

inna

هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ

these

hāulāi

قَوْمٌۭ

(are) a people

qawmun

لَّا

(who do) not

يُؤْمِنُونَ

believe

yu'minūna

٨٨

And [Allāh acknowledges] his saying,1 "O my Lord, indeed these are a people who do not believe."

— Saheeh International

فَٱصْفَحْ

So turn away

fa-iṣ'faḥ

عَنْهُمْ

from them

ʿanhum

وَقُلْ

and say

waqul

سَلَـٰمٌۭ ۚ

Peace

salāmun

فَسَوْفَ

But soon

fasawfa

يَعْلَمُونَ

they will know

yaʿlamūna

٨٩

So turn aside from them and say, "Peace."1 But they are going to know.

— Saheeh International
